We have been visiting this park with kids for years. At first it seemed inconvenient that theres really three separate areas to do things and Walney Road is too busy to walk along, but now thats part of the fun of coming here. You can park at the pond and walk up to the visitor center, or you can park at the center and walk down. Theres always something to see in the pond, the butterfly garden, the vegetable garden, or the forest path, which is complete with historic markers and structures. The visitor center is interactive and engaging for kids, with live animals, touch exhibits, and a dress up play area. Theres also a small creek along the forest path that my kids cant resist playing in - bring a couple of towels! You can picnic here, or drive one light north on Rte 28 and visit the playground associated with this park. There are two play structures and extensive fields and walking paths with lots of parking. We always manage to make a full, fun day when visiting this area.

Really nice local park, and I love running it and walking it. Has a couple scenic/fun features that are cool- the bridge, the stepping stones. But youre right up on the road on one side, and the traffic noise from 28 and the fumes drift over the whole park, so, not really worth a special visit for the nature aspect. The standouts are really the history bits; really dedicated team, but small. Id say- The history is ok for smaller local school visits, but again, not really worth a special trip from far away. If youre already in the area its totally worth a visit for a nice short walk though and the folks working there do a fantastic job on bringing the history to life in a version which younger kids might enjoy. Best feature might be the presence of abundant walnuts from the massive, massive walnut trees by the historic house. Those are pretty awesome.

As with all Fairfax parks, this is well worth the visit - but its not quite the star of the park system. There are miles of hiking trails, some flat and stroller-friendly, some more challenging. The small nature center building dates from the 1700s and contains live reptiles, puzzles, costumes and coloring pages for the young folk. There is ample space for parties and picnics. Parking is convenient, and the park itself is close to a major highway.

We thought this park was quite nice. Good paths and well marked. Really appreciated the sign by the first trail that noted all the stickers and thorns that could attach to you. Our dog rolled in some grass and was covered in them, so beware. Friendly hikers and as we were leaving on a Saturday morning it started getting crowded.

Great place. Went here two days in a row this past week when I needed somewhere outdoors to go for a walk and relax to read a book. This park provided both...with just enough trails through surprisingly pretty woods in the middle of highways, shopping centers, and housing developments.

A gem of a park with walking, gardens, ponds. Wonderful place to spend some time with nature. The staff is wonderful and the visitor center has a small childrens corner great for kids about 3 - 10. Plus some cool reptiles and other animals.

This is a great park to walk around. From the pond all the way to the end of the trails it would take around 30 minutes. You can always hear cars driving by, but it is not bothersome. The trails are very beginner friendly.

Nice little stop to look at the turtles in the pond. There was a port-a-potty that we used as we drive through the area. Pleasant and peaceful, though close to the road.
