This is a huge National Park Service location, primarily containing five large parking lots/picnic areas that may be reserved, some with large covered tables and restroom access. Theres a mile-long one-way road for walkers, bikers as well as car traffic; the picnic areas lie within this one mile circle, as well as a few softball fields and quite a bit of empty space and forest. There are free concerts at the pavilion in summer. There is some history here, as well - gun ramparts greet visitors at the entrance. There is also a sandy playground, unshaded and a bit far from parking. In the fall months, the trees here are SPECTACULAR.

Excellent park for a picnic. The park road is a loop and is nice for bike riding or skating. There is a large covered pavilion and plenty of shaded spots to put down a blanket or sit on a bench. The grounds also have military history. It housed Fort Hunt during the Spanish American war. There are still several batteries left that can be seen. Kids love climbing around them. The fort also housed intelligence agents during WW2. There are plaques all over the park explaining the history.

On weekends a popular place for people to walk their dogs. Unfortunately some dog walkers think it is a dog park and do not keep their dogs on a lead. I have been charged and chased a few times. If you are hoping for a quiet place to relax you may be disappointed. There are often large parties using the pavilion or picnic areas playing loud music. There are also groups running engine driven RC vehicles which are quite loud.

A nice, safe place to run. Most of the bathroom facilities are open April to October, but the main one by the entrance is open year-round. Through most of the park, the cars are restricted to using a single lane at only 15mph, leaving the other lane for pedestrians and joggers. Park is closed 10p to 6am, but Ive never tried to get in during those hours, so I dont know if they actually close the gate.

Fort hunt park features open fields, baseball parks, picnic areas, and many historical landmarks. The landmarks date back to cannon fortifications prepared for the Spanish american war and federal/military during the great depression and WWII. Although there are useful signs explaining the rich history, they seem under represented compared to the baseball and picnic uses.

My friend rented a plot here for a decent price and made for a great day with friends. We used the land to hold field day events for more than 30 people. Great parking area and bathrooms were clean. You can have alcohol here too which was a big plus. Just clean up afterwards.

Great post nestled between a residential neighborhood and the George Washington Parkway/Potomac River. Wide open green spaces and picnic shelters. Lots of historical structures related to the old fort at the site. Also, the site housed WW2 enemy prisoners of war.

Love this place. Its not only a historic site, its also a great place to bring the family and have a picnic or a cookout. Plenty of parking space and you can rent sections ahead of time if you want a little more privacy for a birthday party, informal meeting etc.

Ride the bike, walk the dog, walk yourself around the one mile loop. Picnic with family and friends. Clean rest rooms, convenient to Mt. Vernon and the GW Parkway. Another NOVA treasure.

The forts are neat and if you want a quiet place to get away from the crowds with something neat to look at and a playground for kids it could fit the bill. I was unimpressed.

Great place for large picnics. Walk around is 1 mile exactly. Horses to pet. Lots of toilets. Feels wild in a tame area. Clean. Always cooler than other places in summer.
