I recently played the course and it was a huge disappointment. I guess after reading reviews and viewing the website, we were expecting a certain standard for the rating that it received. Ive easily played over a hundred courses over the years, from Myrtle Beach, Mexico, Jamaica, California, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Florida. For an $85 green fee, I expected so much more. There is normally someone to greet you with a cart in the parking lot, a bag drop, and maybe somebody to clean your sticks at the end of a round. The course was nothing special, just average. Cart paths were nearly nonexistent and there are several dirt paths that other golfers, or staff members have created to get around. A couple of times we found ourselves wondering aimlessly trying to find the next hole. None of the tee boxes have markers, so we assumed we were playing the correct hole. The course itself is ok, nothing really captivating or picturesque, just average and over priced. The guys in my group all agreed that compared to other places weve played, its a $40 - $50 course at best.

I drove in from College Station to play Pine Dunes after reading that Golf Week magazine ranked it the #1 public golf course in Texas. I must say that it did not disappoint. The course layout is amazing! The fairways are in pristine condition and lined with 100 ft pine trees. The entire course is built on sand, so the bunkers and waste areas are excellent! There is a lot of slope and undulations to the fairways and the greens. This gives the course a lot of character and makes each hole unique. The greens are in excellent condition. They are large and very receptive. One thing I really like is the fact that the greens are firm but they still hold the ball. Because the greens are firm and in such great shape, they always roll true. This was one of my best putting rounds ever. The food and staff in the club house was top notch! I had perhaps the best chicken sandwich of my life. Super friendly staff that knows how to treat you right! I quickly fell in love with this place. It is awesome and I highly recommend it. A quality course and an amazing rate. A must play for anyone looking for a great golfing experience!

played today 5/20/14 , We drove down from the metroplex. Upon arrival and driving into the parking lot we both looked at each other and said "sure hope the course doesnt reflect the dull appearance of the pro-shop/ and surrounding buildings. Underwhelming is the word we used. But we were there to play golf not rate the pro shop. We were greeted by a very friendly guy in the pro shop, . We headed over to the first tee and basically had the whole course to ourselves. I want to say that this track from tee to green is AWESOME !!! greens were in fantastic shape, fairways plush, the sand waste bunkers make you feel like your at Pinehurst. this is a must play for the serious golfer. I would recommend to any serious golfer to check this place out, Dont just take my word. Also the practice area was solid. great range and short game area as well. Not a dull hole on the course ! t

This facility is a genuine treat - keeping in mind its forte is practicality, not luxury. The course is very dynamic and challenging, with rolling fairways, excellent greens, well designed holes, tremendous green complexes, and solid, consistent bunkers. We played three days in a row and did not tire of the course, it is that interesting and challenging. The rooms are super convenient to the course, situated adjacent to the 18th green and 200 yards from pro-shop and cafe. The furnishings are spartan. The people were great, and the price is right. I plan to come back and escape to this jewel!

Pine Dunes is a hidden gem in east Texas no doubt. The greens rival Whispering Pines (top private club in Texas) and the layout is spectacular and very challenging. These type of courses are rare to come by, especially in this neck of the woods, kudos to the staff at Pine Dunes, hell of a course you guys have! Out of the many courses I have played in Texas (both public and private) I would rate this as number 2 behind Whispering Pines. Being a public course and having it in the condition they have it in speaks volumes.

We had a group of 8 guys playing this weekend and the service and staff were incredible. Breakfast was delicious and ready at the time we specified both mornings. The course was in great shape. I cant say enough about Jessica and the staff and how they followed up before and during our trip. We will be back!

Golf trip with my Dad from DFW area, Course conditions were excellent. Fairways, tees and greens were about as good as youll find anywhere! Outside the playing area isnt "manicured", just natural terrain with tons of trees and wildlife. If you are going strictly for the golf, youll love it!

Jessica was outstanding...food and such was okay, not great and they are slightly understaffed. The course is simply excellent, greens are really amazing...rolled great, big, and tricky. Condos are really punched out, but doable for a guys weekend....really liked the place.

Best course in east Texas by far. Always in great shape. Must play this one. Challenging and beautiful. A little steep in price for this area in my opinion but when you are that is the way it stays in shape. Would play every week if not so expensive.

great course, definitely a thinking mans course (vs. a distance), you need to place most of your shots and it is narrow. We did a guys weekend and it was the perfect rustic but great golf place for this.
