Wow, what a delightful experience! The Bull and Thistle is an extraordinary find of exquisite food nestled in the quant yet historic town of Gainesboro, TN. Shelby was my server and did an outstanding job from being very knowledgable of the menu to helpful in assisting me with picking some of the best food to hit my pallet in a very long time. For starters I had soup, I could have made a meal out of that is was awesome. My main course was the fillet and mushrooms with tempura asparagus, cheese potatoes. The portions were more than generous so make sure to save room for dessert my favorite was the Cream Broulette. In addition the building was wonderfully designed and the decor is perfect from the customs bar to the patio. Ladies, Did I also mention that there is also a dress shop to browse for some special finds? So do yourselves a favor take a trip out to the Bull and Thistle and treat yourself.

I used to love this place, but they have gotten rid of their old chef (Chef Barry) and replaced him with a garbage chef. The food took forever for only 5 tables being set. When we got the food, the salmon plate was okay, but the crabcake was very lemony and gross. I was excited for the creme brulee, but it was burnt and not good either. I used to have this place on my top 10 restaurants, but now the only good thing I can say about this place is the service was spectacular. The servers are very friendly and work hard. That being said, I will not be going back here again.

We had a large party and had a good variety in our orders. Our server was excellent and took very good care of us. Our steaks were superb and well cooked. The fish and chips wonderful. Salmon and scallops described as heavenly. Bangers and mash excellent and very tasty. One member of our party got the Southern fried chicken. It was terrible. Tasted and declined by four members of our party. It was bland and dry. Avoid it. The desserts were excellent also and there was a great beer selection. Other than the chicken it was worth the 75 minute drive to get there.

One of the best, if not the very best meal I have ever eaten! With that said we went to Bull & Thistle the sat before Valentines day. I ordered the fillet and my date ordered the scallops. The fillet was cooked perfect and had the best flavor. The scallops were to die for they just melted in your mouth!! Also the live band played a John Prine classic "Muhlenberg county" Being a Kentucky boy and growing up not too far from Muhlenberg County, I was sold!! The food may seem a bit pricey but well worth the price.

I cannot explain how nice this place is! It is a long drive for me to get there but I heard good thing so I made went anyway. What I found was some of the best and most creative food I have ever eaten. Service was outstanding and our waiter (doubling as the bar tender that night) was a perfect balance of helpful, informative, and not overbearing (THANKS Benjamin!). The atmosphere was great too. I cant wait for our next trip to this amazing restaurant in the middle of nowhere!

The staff was on theyre game and the food was 5 star . menu was unique and and made uus courious to how it could be done. The bartender made a wicked mule I think it is Jamison and ginger beer that was absolutely incredible served in pure copper cups.

They nailed it on customer service, atmosphere and food. One of the owners (Louie) came by and sat down with us while we waited for the best meal in the state. He gave us the history of the building and the chef. Kaylee waited on us and I actually watched her jog back to the kitchen a couple of times. We drove over an hour to get there and would do it again to make a special evening a memorable evening.

Today for lunch i decided to drive longer and was thinking i was going to get a good hamburger, i was wrong. The potatoes were ok, the bread, onions, mushrooms but the beef, oh my God, it was awful, i couldnt even swallow it, 90% of it went to the trash. I was very disappointed and it is not an inexpensive place to serve that kind of beef.

Wow - what a gem. Gorgeous building and ambiance. Food is delicious and organic/locally sourced when possible and truly delicious. They also have a robust set of dishes that are out can be made gluten free and/or vegan. Plus a pastry chef who knows what she is doing. Will definitely be back.

Amazing, and so unexpected. Traditional dishes prepared perfectly and served with style and elegance. Kind, friendly, fun staff that know food and drink and are happy to share. I would, seriously, make a trip to Gainesboro just to eat here - and I live in California.

This place is so worth the drive; which is surprisingly short from Cookeville. Delicious and different. Flavor combinations that work on so many levels. It can be a bit pricey but I have never felt like it wasnt worth the money. Also, a great beer selection!

This is the place we always go for special occasions. It is probably the best restaurant Ive ever eaten at. The filet is delicious, the ribeye theyve added recently tops it though. Ive never had anything I didnt like here, would recommend no hesitation.

Without a doubt hands down the best dining experience Ive had in Tennessee. The great quality of the food coupled with the artistic plating made for a wonderful evening. I had come once before but the new chef blows the old one out of the water.

Last night was my first visit to the Bull & Thistle. I had the filet with cheesy potatoes and salad with passion fruit dressing. It was cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed the staff as well as the atmosphere. I highly recommend it all!
