City Scape Winery in Greenville, SC has the distinction of the most unique wine selection compared with other area wineries I’ve toured. This is either a good or a bad thing, depending on how traditional your taste in wine is. My husband and I visited during a vacation week for the owners, but those filling in did a remarkable job attending to customers and spreading the story/vision of City Scape in their absence. As I understand it, City Scape started out as the previous owners’ hobby and has escalated to the current owners’ (of one year) full-time passion. The leap these folks took is commendable. I’m a person who loves pairings, and what City Scape offers are fruit-forward blends I’d liken more to wine coolers than I’m used to (though the alcohol content is on par with traditional wines) that go well with food. With flavors like Strawberry Savignon Blanc and Pineapple Riesling, these aren’t your normal varieties. The Green Apple Gewuztraminer in particular (which literally has the smell of green apple juice) seems like it will pair amazingly with pork. (Update 8/11/17: Opened a bottle of the Green Apple with some pork chops last night and found the wine in volume to be overly sweet for our taste. Id recommend trying a full glass of this before committing to purchasing it.) Blackberry Merlot goes great with cheese and I can imagine is phenomenal with puff pastry-wrapped baked brie. A few negatives. City Scape makes their own wine, but the grapes (as I’m told) are imported. There are grape vines on-site but not in the measure you’ll find at larger vineyards whose wines are made from grapes they grow on location. The grapes used aren’t even local grapes, which is kind of a bummer because it seems this place likes to support local (Happy Cow Creamery). Also, the tasting room is pretty no-frills and limited for space. City Scape has a clearly bright future as the room was full, but reservations are a must. Walk-ins are welcome, however I don’t recommend doing so on a weekend. Also, it was tough for me to get a bathroom break. One bathroom for so many people doesn’t work well with this much liquid flowing. A premium tasting includes a souvenir glass. It’s a small thing but worth mentioning that it would be nice if the glasses were wrapped in tissue and bagged upon departure rather than rinsed and a napkin stuck in them. Its very hard to travel with loose glass and since we purchased a full case of wine, there wasnt room in our wine box. The upside, a premium tasting includes a cheese plate with a couple of tasty relishes, crackers, and some craisins. This is a nice feature and not something I’ve seen included elsewhere. It’s also great for Happy Cow Creamery which is 2 miles up the road and clearly reaping the benefit of a symbiotic relationship with City Scape. We went after our tasting as did several others to purchase cheese and relish. Overall, unique, quaint, and worth checking out, especially for the price, which is relatively low for what I’m used to paying. A little grounds keeping and expansion might make this place off the charts. Its biggest downfalls are the site and the fact that the grapes aren’t local. Worth a visit.

I did not expect the caliber of wine we found at City Scape Winery. With my wifes and my own professional careers it has allowed us unique travel experiences. Our travels have cultured us into understanding what makes a good wine. I had the expectations of a nice trip to the country to a novice winery purveying the typical falsely sweet and sulphur rich wines, one of which always being a muscadine; I am from the South and muscadines are best left for black bears. This couple blew the doors off of our expectations! They love wine and have so heavily educated themselves with what it takes to make an amazing wine that they have accomplished just that. Their Dark Chocolate Red has the best nose of ANY wine I have ever tried! (This includes us being in the Super Tuscany region of Italy a few months ago.) The dark chocolate nose makes you think that the wine would be almost overly sweet but when you taste, it just exhibits a classy multi layered red that leaves you with the perfect dark chocolate aftertaste the name promises. And this is just one... We went two weekends in a row and picked up half a case. Go and let me know if I am not making an understatement. Well done City Scape, you have done Greenville proud!

I had a wonderful experience here! A friend and I drove up from Columbia and did the wine tasting with cheese plate. It was fun and really nice to be trying something different. They have something for you whether you enjoy whites, reds, dessert wines, etc. The owners, Josh and Deb are the nicest couple. So warm and take their time explaining what everything is. We got to feed the goats and get a tour of the property and see where the wine is actually made. They have really captured that atmosphere you crave when you want to relax and feel at peace. We purchased multiple bottles and even bought a few bottles for a silent auction we were having and they donated free wine tastings to support a local charity. Cant say enough great things about Josh and Debs business practice and City Scape. Great job!!

I first met Anita and Wayne years ago when I signed up to take a winemaking class with them. They are a lot of fun and made that class so enjoyable! I am still making wine to date! City Scapes wines are fantastic! My favorites are the Coffee Delight, Caramel Delight, and Chocolate Orange wines. Yum! I always bring one of those out for Girls Night, and they are always a hit! I highly recommend City Scape Winery. Go check em out. Im sure youll love them, too!

Thoroughly enjoyed the tasting here. The owners had a great vibe and chatted with us throughout the tasting. As a beginner wine taster, I learned so much from them in this chic but relaxed winery atmosphere. And, the property is beautiful, especially in the evening. Check the goats and the pig, get some wine to take with you, and see if theyll let you take a date on a picnic there.

I went with my mama and 2 best friends and had an absolute blast. I got a bottle of palmetto gold to bring home and had it with dinner last night. I had forgotten how much I liked it(and I dont even care for white wines typically!) So it was like a surprise present in a bottle. Highly recommended.

Anita and Wayne were gracious hosts and this is the first winery Ive been to where I liked just about everything. I was fascinated by the warm Autumn Spice wine. Well worth a trip for our Meetup group.

Be sure you pair the Coffee Delight with some chocolate. The Raspberry White Zin would make a great slushy or a smoothie! Delightful proprietor and her mascot greeted us warmly.
