I can see that a lot of people on here really dont get it about Portland. Not at all. Heres the deal. Oaks Park is a really fantastic place to have a great time with family and friends, and to enjoy a historic part of Portland. This is a very special city, and Oaks Park is a part of what makes Portland a quirky, wonderful place to live. If you are a severely Apple-computer-addicted, latte-chugging metrosexual, this place probably wont do it for you. If you hate children, hate memories of your own childhood, and generally cant stand the idea of people having an innocent, positive, great time, you will not like Oaks Park. If you arent happy when faced with kitschy, awesome local art in the form of the Lewis and Clark ride, then you really arent going to like Oaks Park. If you dont like having cotton candy and soda in the parks with a friend or two, or with your kids, or with loved ones, you arent going to like Oaks Park. If you cant have fun without being able to purchase alcoholic beverages on-grounds wherever you are because you dont know how to have fun otherwise, you will not have fun at Oaks Park. If you dont like the idea of being able to ride a vintage, miniature steam locomotive around the grounds, you wont have fun at Oaks Park. If you dont like the idea of being able to ride every single ride in the park all day for under fifteen dollars per person, you wont like Oaks Park. If you hate being able to take a break from all of the fun by taking a nice walk along the beautiful Willamette River, you wont like Oaks Park. If you just cant stand a world-class biking and foot trail that spans for miles through lower Southeast Portland, you will not like Oaks Park. If you think that you would be bothered by having the chance to walk through Oaks Bottom and catch a glimpse of all of the wildlife in this huge nature reserve (for free), and watch the nesting pairs of American Bald Eagles that are nesting there (I saw them the last time I was there), you wont like Oaks Park. If you absolutely cant stand the idea of having a laughing good time heading over to the huge skating rink and rolling your troubles away with friends/family/loved ones/kids to the fantastic tunes played by the one and only Keith Fortune on his gigantic Wurlitzer, you wont like Oaks Park. In other words, if you dont like Oaks Park. you are such a total Scrooge. Hipsters just dont understand a single, solitary thing about Portland. But those who do "get it" will be glad that the hipsters hate it and stay away. We get to enjoy, while they get to whine about how cool they are. Nice to be in the club, hey? Oaks Park is affordable, and charmingly cheesy, and I wouldnt want it to ever, ever go away. The wildlife refuge is amazing. The bike trail is unsurpassed in quality, maintenance, and location. The trains are so completely awesome. And being able to enjoy all of this for under fifteen dollars per person is one of the best bang-for-your-buck entertainment values available in this great, unique city of ours. Enjoy! :-)

Okay... So. I like Oaks park... But I have to say for a park that is 50 years older than disneyland you figure it would have expanded (And from what study I have done on it, it has actually shrunk... Badly...) The skating rink, Looping thunder, Zoom, The train, MAYBE disko and the ferris wheel are pretty much the worth it parts... Go karts are fun too but... Yea... Well its unique and for sure has the old style to it but the reason I am not giving it a big review is because it could do better. The rides I mentioned above are fun yes... (Even though they used to have bigger... Look it up. Zip (A wooden coaster that supposedly crushed peoples ribs) was not really... Not really the greatest thing for them though...) Now yes its fun and yes there is this but its just a time killer really... Not a park people would travel 3 days to go to. Oh and their prices are pretty good too. Now here is a list of the negatives... The parking lot is bigger than the whole park and they have a whole grass area to add to that. The rides are VERY small or spin (And I hate spinney rides). Not only that but the midway is crowded and cramped feeling. The parking lot needs to have more rides as there are never a whole lot of cars there. There are plenty of other places to park in the area as well... So the area needs to be expanded. Bigger coaster? Log flume? Drop tower? Something! Wild waves is better in that area! That or I could drive 5 hours to Silverwood and get a lot more fun factor out of it. Also if you get someone like me who doesnt like spinning rides or used to not like looping coasters (Thanks oaks park... Looping thunder was my first) then forget about it! Go to enchanted forest. Their prices suck but the rides are way bigger and there is much more charm there. The thing about oaks is it has been open longer than most every park on the west. It needs to "Act like it." Hold fundraisers, Do something... And while your at it get rid of that stupid frog hopper and put something that actually free falls dammit!

I had my daughters 4th birthday here and rented a tented site. When we showed up the rented area was discusting. The tables had old food on it and bird poop, we had to move tables from outside into the tent and rotate everything around. I went and complained and they offered a "dramatic discount" of $25.00 on the tented site. This is according to Laura. I gave them my cc info when reserved the spot and they told me they would run the card about a week after since they were behind on accounting. Two months later I get an email saying that balance on the party hasnt been paid and that I need to pay it. I asked why I am being notified over 2 months later and she apologized saying they are just now reconciling the summer months. I asked for an additional discount due to their error and me having to spend the time to go back through my records making sure they didnt already charge me and they said that they already dramatically discounted the site fee for me ($25.00) out of the almost $500.00 I spent. Dont waste you money!

Horrible! The staff and people here were rude. The Looping Thunder roller coaster feels rickety, rough and its pathetic. Ive had bad experiences here since I was a child and I dont find it appealing at all. The park looks outdated, horrid and crummy. Its too crowded due to the narrow midway and things here are dirty and gross. The food is disgusting. I got stuck on the Looping Thunder roller coaster one time. The kiddie coaster is also rough. Things at Oaks Park has gone worse as time went by. The pricing has gone up. The disko ride by the roller coaster plays loud blaring music. The PA system for the Looping Thunder roller coaster is really loud with thunder sounds. I had too many problems here for years. My last visit here was a horrible day and the mini golf took forever. I am never coming back here anymore. One of the worst places in Portland.
