We live in a modern digital age. It is so refreshing, then, that places like the "Schnitz" exist. The building is a throwback to a slower time, when a night out was truly a night out, and a grand adventure. Of course it is a landmark with the huge "Portland" marquis - that was intentional, but it is also arguably Portlands premier and best entertainment venue. A dancehall it is not, this is a true concert hall, so you will not be hopping in the aisles to your favorite music, or getting your groove on in places such as the Roseland or Crystal. But for a pure enjoyable experience, it is excellent. Yes it is the home of the Oregon Symphony, and for a classical music experience theres a reason why youd want to go here, with its early 20th century charm than say, the Civic/Keller Auditorium. Your eyes will feast on the decor as much as your ears will enjoy the sound. It is also a place to catch touring acts who seek a more "classy" experience than a mere arena show. Ive also caught lectures here, and even a live George Carlin show, I was in the nosebleeds in the balcony, still heard and saw everything. Plan out dinner downtown, a show at the Schnitz, and dessert after or just a walk through the adjacent park blocks, and your date will know it is a night, a special night, to remember.

We had a lovely time visiting the Concert Hall for a viewing of Its a Wonderful Life accompanied by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. The venue is easy to navigate and offers a variety of concessions for purchase (coffee, hot cocoa, bottled water, wine, beer, cookies, candy, chips) The staff was friendly and professional and the venue was quite pretty inside and out. The marquee on the side of the building is quite famous to Portland and is nicely lit. When shows are playing the entrances are illuminated with 1000s of flashing bulbs/ patterns which adds to the excitement. Will call is set up outside the building and your tickets are checked once you enter the second set of doors inside. Bathrooms are available with short lines and nicely kept. I would recommend to anyone visiting to go see this beautiful theatre it was the highlight of our trip and Portlanders are so friendly and welcoming! Cant wait to go back!! ☺️

The place was gorgeous, however we took two 5 year olds to see Peppa Pig Live and during the 15 minutes break, they should have announced you cant bring food back in.. after you buy $30 worth of food in a line that takes 10 minutes to get through, you dont have time to eat whatever youve bought. Annoying!! Then on top of that.. they were serving WARM juice.. when I asked for a cup o.. they literally gave me a teeny tiny cup that help 3-4 ice cubes.. I asked if I could at least get a cup that they were serving all the beer in.. nope.. I would have to BUY a beer to get a cup! Ridiculous! If youre serving THAT many people.. be prepared!!! Also.. there were about 5 other people waiting for things that they had bought there are apparently out of.. the whole thing was very unprofessional in my never to be humble opinion! I doubt I would ever go back due

Came to the Arlene Schnitzer with my girlfriend to see the legendary Hal Holbrook play Mark Twain. The show was phenomenal! I really liked the Schnitzer, and that was my first time. I was in row S, which should be pretty far back, but because of how the Orchestra seats "curve" around the stage, my row S was a lot closer than "S" would indicate. The venue itself is very, very pretty and lush. I thought they needed more bathrooms and bathrooms not located on -1. You could buy drinks and Otis Spunkmyer cookies to take into the show, which I really liked!

Is there a better venue for enjoying a concert or a show? Probably, but this place just as wonderful. Great sounds that carry properly throughout the whole hall. Not too big, so you still get an intimate feel. Seating thats spaced out properly, so that the people in front of you arent blocking your view. If a show or a play are happening here, do yourself a solid and attend. You deserve a treat. P.S. If youre here for a concert, stand up the whole time. Dancing while standing up is better than doing it while sitting.

OMG!!!! Prince lives! Well tonight, he did with the help of someone whom embody Prince from his talented voice, mannerisms and wonderful tales behind the songs of the master of music, Marshal Charloff. We were under the impression it was going to be a night with the orchestra with a video playing above them. Then Prince walked in singing "Lets Get Crazy" and that was all we needed to get in the mood for a concert with this purple legend.

great shows great venue but horrible rude, the worst management and staff ever!!!!!!! they need to change, they suck at treating guest and then no customer service when you need help, I will never go back until they changed their staff and get rid of the draconian thugs that work their!!!!!!!! its a great hall but what a shame when it comes to their amateur hour of useless workers!!!!!!!

I have been to several concerts here. My first one was Prince. I have been blown away everytime Ive been here. No matter where Ive sat Ive been extremely pleased. The SOUND here is fantastic. Beautiful building... The pictures are from my last visit. The Music of Prince by The Oregon Symphony. Absolutely perfect...I loved every second...except for Prince not being there!

Love this gem. Located on Broadway in Downtown Portland, it hosts a great range of attractions from great world leaders, to amazing hip artists. fit with a balcony and old era charm, its a perfect home for the Oregon Symphony, and I absolutely adore the establishment. Saw my first concert there in the third grade when my class took a field trip to watch the symphony!

Ive attended concerts at The Schnitz for approximately 40 years. It has always been a treat to get to go there. I always make a day/evening of it. Dress up, go to a nice restaurant (Raven and Rose last time), get there when the doors open, find your seats, go grab a drink at the bar and just feel like an adult for the evening. Even as a little kid I felt "fancy".

Its a beautiful venue with great sound. My only complaint is that there is not much sitting room. Even if youre normal sized, youre pretty much going to have to lock arms with the person next to you. The angling of the rows could also be better - Im not a short person and we had decent orchestra seats, and I still had trouble seeing over the person in front of me.

Incredible concert hall, my wife and I saw Final Fantasy Distant Worlds here when it came in to town. We were not disappointed, though we were put right next to what I believe was the projectors, which wasnt too bad, just warm. We had a great view of the stage and easy access to the exits after the show was over and for bathroom breaks during intermissions.

A romantic venue for a show, but not the best acoustics. Drinks are overpriced - even moreso than you would expect, and the staff can be horribly rude (yet selective) about enforcing ridiculous rules, like taking photos during the show - I watched them harass a person a few rows ahead of me, while I snapped away. Alas, its still very charming.
