If I could give a negative 10 review...I would. Simply based upon one sole criminal incident that was committed BY the valet staff of this hotel and the subsequent neglect on the hotels part to do anything about it. My brother got married this past weekend at the Durham Armory, a venue very close to 21c Hotel. It was an amazing night full of love and laughter and many amazing guests consisting of family and close friends. They booked their stay at the 21c Hotel for the evening of their wedding as the rest of the guests stayed at the Durham Hotel close by. The valet staff of the 21c Hotel was responsible for transporting the grooms vehicle from the wedding venue to the parking deck to remain overnight. The following morning, the bride and groom checked out of the hotel and returned to their vehicle only to discover that over $1,000 worth of wedding gifts were stolen from the vehicle. The only people who had access to the vehicle from the time that the gifts were loaded into it were the valet staff of this hotel. There was absolutely zero indication of any burglary to the vehicle, and in addition, the physical gifts were left remaining. Only the cards (which one would presume may possibly contain cash and etc) were missing. The bride and groom immediately informed the hotel of the theft and filed a police report. The hotel staff and management ensured that an investigation would take place into the matter, yet have since remained laxsidasical at best in following through. The most harrowing part of it all is that several hours into the day after the wedding (during the stress of dealing with this), the bride discovered the car identification card that was written by whomever WOULD have been the valet that evening...in the trunk. The card was brought to the attention of the hotel staff as a means to basically say..."Well, here we have it. Criminals are not entirely bright. They accidentally dropped the valet identification card into the trunk and we happened to discover it"...yet the hotel staff has yet to do anything more than continue a general rhetoric of "We are looking into it" Now, we are aware that things of this matter do take time. They require thorough investigation and the ruling out of any and all other possibilities. However, the evidence and time spans present here are comparable to a case in court where there is an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence that would almost 100 percent elude to the "who done it" within the thoughts of any reasonable mind. Yet, the hotel management team has yet to be responsive, caring or indicative of actually taking care of this. A valet identification card holds fingerprints, handwriting, and coding/initials that would point a nice straight arrow directly to the individual(s) who would be responsible for this. The unfortunate thing about this situation is that we are a good family. A Christian family. A family that has no tolerance for theft or wrongdoings of any kind yet a family who understands and forgives. A family that would be willing to have the individual return the stolen items and not press legal charges because we are aware that people make mistakes. And if you have any sort of moral wherewithal to own up to your mistakes, forgiveness is necessary. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain calm or understanding due to the hotels seemingly lack of interest in having this solved or attempting to hold accountable the individual(s) who are responsible for this. We have most definitely crossed all "ts" and dotted all "is" in ruling out any other possibility. Due to the armory being a private venue, a police officer must be on standby the entire time any event is occurring that includes alcohol. Therefore, not only was a police officer present in the lobby the entire evening...the gifts were taken to the car on the earlier end of the evening while under watch of a trusted individual. Like I said, all roads lead to Rome here. Do not patronize this hotel. Under any circumstances. This is pure internal criminal B.S. at its best.

Had a one night getaway with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. We found several positive recommendations for 21c online and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Everything about the experience was great. On their website they even had a note about the construction in the area. It was incredibly helpful, as when we got to the hotel, trying to navigate to valet parking was tricky. But, there instructions online made it a breeze. Staff was very friendly and proactive. From the time we got out of our car we were treated warmly and graciously. Check-in was quick with lots of great info about the museum, our room, in-room dining, etc. It was late so we opted for in-room dining for the evening. I have to admit, we do in-room dining a lot. Usually you pay extremely high prices for mediocre food at best. We order a couple of burgers with fries and drinks. The prices were reasonable (its in-room dining so its not gonna be cheap). But, the quality of the food was by far the BEST in-room dining weve ever had. The burger was huge and fries plenty. The burger was like a gourmet burger. I dont think Ive ever eaten in-room dining and thought, "thats some of the best food Ive ever had." But, we did this time. The rooms are really unique. Cool mood lighting in the bathrooms, comfortable beds, excellent shower. Good towels, bath products, etc. They are well appointed with pretty cool art on the walls and decorated very modern. Our view wasnt great because of the construction, but that wasnt the hotels fault. If youre looking for a great place to stay - Id recommend 21c highly.

Booked through Hotwire for a week trip back to Duke for school. Good price, but no mention of parking cost ($25/night) and no self parking. The theme of this place is that we dont indicate were too fancy to let you do something yourself, and were happy to overcharge you for it. So I show up with no cash, no atm card (forgot it), and no way to get cash. By the third night the valet is really rude, my trash hasnt been emptied, and my requests for ice (did I mention there is no ice machine? Were too posh for that) are met super slowly with half bags of ice. Also, my room was intermittently FULL of tiny flies. And there was no mini fridge for leftovers, just a mini bar. Like, I get it. Were super fancy and dont cater to your lumpen tastes, but jezus. Anyway. I figured out how to get cash and Im going to start tipping for the awful service, I guess. Cons: service turns bad without bribes, room small, flies!, no decent mini fridge, only one elevator worked on my floor, steam room broken, surprise parking cost, pretentious, and bad climate control. Pros: pretty room, hip area, "art" everywhere, soap smelled nice. Bottom line: Ok for one night romantic getaway. Working travelers would be better served at the Hilton.

We go to Durham about every other weekend to hang out with friends. We decided to splurge and say overnight here on a Saturday night rather than do the 1 hour drive home. It helped that the hotel had a discounted rate that made it more affordable for us. From check-in to check-out, we had a wonderful time and the staff was great! They think of all the details, big and small. Our room was very cool, comfortable, and had a great view of Durham. Plenty of outlets throughout the room and by the bed for devices and cell phones. The internet was fast and there were 2 free bottles of water…nice they dont try to nickel and dime you. After being out for the night, they even replaced our bottled water and put 2 chocolates on the bed! The next morning, we had room service bring coffee so we wouldnt have to wander downtown Durham looking for a cup. For only $8, we got a 4-serving of tasty coffee right at the time we requested, plus two tall glasses of ice water. We also took advantage of the exercise room and steam room…first time in a steam room and it was awesome! As often as we have been to Durham, this hotel made us feel like we were visiting a new city. Highly recommend this hotel!
