This was my first time visiting Macari and I was quite disappointed. We had a reservation, so I assumed we would be greeted by a host/hostess/server or somebody and taken to a table, as had been done with the other vineyards we visited. But there was no one around, so we went up the bar and told the barman the name on the reservation - he looked it up and confirmed our reservation but he did not escort us to a table or a sitting area or get a host/server to do it. He just began the pouring process and we had to do it at the bar. As we were leaving we saw tables and chairs which other guests were sitting on, so we didnt understand why we werent taken to one of them. It shouldnt be up to the guests to ask or inquire about sitting down. When we first arrived, we didnt actually even know if there were seating arrangements because we didnt see them, only the bar, so we didnt even know if there was seating. And it should not be up to us to ask. For me, its all about the overall experience when I go out to dine or to something like this, so this was very disappointing. For the price charged, guests should be escorted to a seating area to enjoy their wines or at least told about where we could seat and have the wines brought to us. We were made to think that we had to have our experience standing at the bar. If we had been made to feel more welcome and had a more relaxing experience tasting our wine, we would have been more apt to make a purchase of a bottle or two, as we had done earlier in the day at another vineyard that gave us a more welcoming and relaxing experience. We will not be returning.

This was the biggest vineyards of all the four places we visited in Long Island, with 200 acres. As soon as we drove up, I could tell it had a lot of land. they had nice wooden structure, with outdoor seating to the left of it, surrounded by green vineyards. When we walked in, I could tell this was a grand place, both in space and amount of things they had in there. And with lots of gifts, snacks, wines, and decorations, it still had enough space to walk around. This was really good because if the tasting area was too busy or too crowded, you can just walk around and check out the merchandise. A female staff greeted us with a nice smile at the tasting counter. She showed us the wine tasting menu which had three options, based on which kind of wines you wanted to try (price ranging from $12 to $25). We just wanted to try couple of specific wines, so we didnt select any wine tasting menu. (if you are buying a bottle of two of the specific wine you tasted, the tasting is free) We really, really liked their "Early Wine" - it was sweet and a bit bubbly. Outside food is not permitted here, as most others. The difference is that they offer lots of food options here that you can buy, which was very convenient. They had cheese, charcuterie, chips, cookies, pop corn, etc. They also offered non-alcoholic beverage like water and iced tea as well, which was very thoughtful for the customers who makes this a fun family event and brings their children. Made on line reservations. Warning, in doing this I think the staff knows you already paid and they get less in tips. Because on arrival we were escorted to a mediocre table and left for dead. There was no questions if we were there before. Just a piece of paper on the table, poured a glass for my wife and I. An extremely brief, defenately rehearsed description of the wine. And then server disappeared. We almost went foraging for our second glass but server came out and acknowledged we were long ready for next tasting. On our third glass the server was getting ready to hide again when I asked for some kind of a menu like a cheese board. This is how we found out that you had to go back to the store, pick your own items and they would give you a knife and a board at the check out line. You bring it to your table and serve it yourself. My recommendation, go to Shinn Vineyard. Its just down the road. Staff will make you feel at home, helpfull, friendly, and knowledgeable. And in my opinion, and the opinion of my wine class, better wine.

One of the best vineyard experiences you will have on the North Fork! If you are planning a wine tasting trip, Macari is a MUST! Not only do they have some of the best wines available (love, love, LOVE the Early Wine, Rose, Souv Blanc, Merlot Estate), but the staff is SO friendly and knowledgeable. I am not a wine expert, so I really appreciate hearing a description of what Im tasting and how it was made. ASK about the cement eggs!! So cool - and literally no one else is doing this on the North Fork. ASK about the wine club too, its a good deal! Not only are you getting shipments of wine, but you get a discount when you come in for separate purchases and a few free tastings! As a local, I may seem bias - but Ive been to almost all of the vineyards and this is by far my favorite. Every time I go, its a relaxing experience - Macari keeps it classy!

As the bus pulled up to the vineyards and I saw the purple grapes along the vines. It was a breath of fresh air. I wasnt too fond of their wines, although it was a beautiful facility and it seemed like they were headed in a good direction. The man who poured us our wine didnt seem to have his heart or to much knowledge with the wine. I tried three different wines. A Pinto Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rose. They all tasted watery and bitter. The gift shop was filled with chocolate from Brooklyn, but not one of the staff knew where the actual chocolate came from. She just looked at me like I had 3 heads for asking such a weird question. Even when the group photographer wanted to snap a picture of our bus load on the staircase she was told, NO. I would not recommend this vineyard. • • •

Took a tour here the other day along with other vineyards and I wasnt too fond of this place or their wines. They had a beautiful facility and seemed like they were headed in a good direction just arent there yet. The gentleman who sampled us our wine wasnt too knowledgeable with any questions I had he just seemed like someone who was there to pour the wine. I tried three different wines. A pinto gris, sauvignon blanc, and rose. They all tasted similar and bitter to me. I also wanted to buy some cheese that they had. Thought that a certain one would pair well with the wine and improve it. The woman there wasnt much help. She just looked at me and said theyd all be fine and quickly went to the next person. Not that great of a visit.

Visited the winery with a group of friends; was wrongfully charged for Tastings that were not poured & did not occur. Staff member attempted to fix his error when prompted by our party, Then become arrogant & rude, made comments under his breath and scoffed when asked why he was charging for tastings that were not poured. " Its for the experience" was the reply. Management offered no help. Overall experience was beyond displeasing. I have visited the vineyard before in which I had a wonderful time. This experience puts a very sour taste in the mouth of not only myself but the 7 guests I prompted to visit this specific vineyard.
