My favorite place to hike. You got everything here. Horse stables, historic buildings, a hawk sanctuary (off limits), a lake, a large bay with calm waters (that I took a swim in a couple times), bluffs that overlook the bay which is a great place to throw a blanket down, wooded dirt trails, paved bike trails, benches in front of scenic areas and at the top of a hill where youd want to rest ..there are deer here and the most amazing thing is that I spotted a white stag with beautiful antlers .. A rare sighting that ill never forget. The sunsets here are amazing. The only thing I dont like is the huge hill you have to walk down towards the lake and bay and also the paved hill that I had to walk up on the way back .. But its all worth it. Be careful for holes in the ground that arent very visible. I twisted my ankle in one by the building on top of the hill. There are at least 2 bathrooms in the park.. One is closer to the parking area with white buildings.. On the opposite side of the silo. The other is just off of the paved bike trail next to the big historic building on top of the hill. If you walk around that building, youll see another building that has bathrooms inside as well as a water fountain and a drink machine. You arent allowed to fish here but I noticed there are lots of fish in the lake. In the bay there are cranes and other waterfowl. A few years ago, I saw a brown pelican sitting on a rock on the shore near the bay. Only pelican sighting on Long island in my life! My brother found a tick on him after sitting in the sand Hiking Route: This hike started at the parking lot near the garden.. Walking to the right and across a large field towards the horse stables and a paved road, making a left at the paved road which leads you to the buildings on top of the hill. On your way there, youll see a field on your left with a beautiful tree in the center.. There are also benches to right of the trail. Continue the paved trail up a small incline to the buildings with a scenic view Of The lake and bay. Go down the hill and to the right of the lake onto a dirt trail that leads to the bay. Make a left when you reach the bay and walk the shore a short bit til you can make a left up into the grassy bluffs. Walk along the edge of the bluffs as it curves to the left into a trail that leads away from the water.. This is your way back. Go straight until it becomes a paved road that goes up hill.. Make a right at top Of hill and continue on the paved trail back the way you came (past the tree in the field, then the stables). The parking lot is towards the right .. If its dark , walk towards the lights from the white buildings where the bathrooms are. The lot is behind the white buildings. Be careful driving out,.. Sometimes deer are in the road near the park entrance

This park is gorgeous any time of the year. I love that there are different terrain options to suit different people. There is a great 3 mile paved loop that takes you past some historic structures and gives good views of horses in pasture. There is also a road that is frequented by pedestrians and bicyclists which leads to the beach. From the beach you can walk a ways along the shoreline. Its very relaxing and quiet. You can see Connecticut across the harbor. I try to remember to bring a bag with me to pick up any litter that I might see on the beach. The small things add up! :)

Great NY State nature preserve. Terrific well maintained hiking trails; woods, Meadows, ponds and Long Island Sound. Check out the Osprey nest on the Manor House chimney. Take the south trail down to an unspoiled beautiful LI sound beach. Walk the pond trail for a fresh water wildlife experience. If you are a bike rider very nice paved loop trail. Really a great place to relax, unwind and be with nature in a metropolitan area a of 22 million people. Enjoy the peace and quiet sitting in the walled garden. Try getting to the garden in May when the crab apple trees are in bloom.

If you like walking, this park is for you! You have to drive in and parking is $8, but there is a LOT of green (at least for me, Im a city-gal). Id love to come back here for fall and see the trees change color..the sun shines really hot in the summer. It seemed like there was a LOT more to explore than what I could handle. I believe we only walked 2 miles in. Beware of black fly bites though...ugh so itchy!!! Next time I will come being more prepared for the insects. You can even see horses here! Awesome. The pond is really beautiful too! Def will come back.

One of our favorite places to go for a walk! Beautiful park! One complete lap around is approximately 3 miles. The main house is at the halfway point and from there you have a great view of Long Island Sound. On a clear day you can see Connecticut without a problem. There are horse stables. The horses are usually out grazing or exercising. Sometimes youll see one getting a bath. There are many deer in the park. They usually come out around dusk. Two weeks ago we saw a white deer. (I didnt even know they existed.) Great place to walk or run or ride your bicycle.

Caumsett State Park is one of my favorite parks. There isnt too much to offer for everyone, but what is available is excellent. For cyclists, there is a two mile paved bike path that loops the park. Furthermore, there are dirt trails for mountain bikers. All of the trails are welcome to hikers. One of my favorite parts of the park is the boat dock in the northwestern corner of the park. It is very photogenic, but it is about three miles from the parking lot. For small children, there is no playground, but there is a nice garden and space to ride a bike.

This is my favorite park for running and hiking on Long Island. The terrain is varied, the scenery is magnificent, and it is like stepping back in time to the era of the Great Gatsby. Ive been going there for 28 years now, and I am still giddy with anticipation every time that I am on my way! I just cant get enough. Plus, as often as I am there, it seems that, even still, once in a while, I will find a new trail, or a new field, or something undiscovered. Its my Heaven on earth! <3

We came here as a class field trip. The park is beautifully kept. There is so much to see while you are here it would take more than a day to truly enjoy everything it has to offer. The naturalists are super informative and engaging with students. They made walking along the beach super fun and interesting, pointing out critters, different rocks, the characteristics of the beach, the water, etc. I cannot wait to come back here on my own time

One of the few places this close to the city where you can take a walk in the woods and be left alone by traffic. Long Island is a horribly planned mess of traffic and sprawl. We could use more places like this. I find the parking fees to be deeply unfair. $8 to enter a State Park that I already have paid for with my 5% NY state income tax. NY state parks should be free for all NY state residents. Welcome to the Vampire State.
