hated the theater, loved the bryan adams concert. This theater has torn seats, is pretty old.. and worst of all has a bar indoors. people drink and people shout and make it a rotten experience for you. the lady behind us was completely sloshed.... kept shouting and making noises in the middle of the song, that you would not like to hear... it ruined the experience for us.... but whatever...photography was banned, but most people recorded the entire show, shot snaps, it was annoying... i was there to see bryan adams and not some stupid drunk female... would i recommend... NO WAY!!!!

A beautiful old theater, being restored lovingly with the help of volunteers and donations. Small, almost intimate; balcony seats are a great value. A venue that attracts great acts; Ive seen Laurie Anderson, Bruce Hornsby, John Prine, Dark Star Orchestra and others. Also good to local young theater group Running To Places. The concessions are limited: coffee, tea and snacks in the lobby, and local beer and wine in the bar, which is indeed inconveniently located along the back wall of the theater. I love this place nonetheless, and see it improving every year.

Great old theater, over 1600 seats! Saw a couple indie bands play here and it was really nice. One show was assigned seating, the other was general admission. Suggest showing up about an hour early for GA shows. Of course, as soon as the music starts, everyone rushed the stage and nobody complained, so maybe just show up when you want and go stand in front of everyone else when the time strikes. Pretty basic wine/beer selection, but at least the prices arent outrageous!

Ive been to many shows at the State Theatre. This is a real success story in Ithaca, a full sized theatre from long ago that has been re-vitalized and put to good use. Yes the facility could use a face lift and a big cash infusion, but for a small city this is a great place. The old architecture and detailing is quite amazing, especially if you sit in the balcony. Go out and support your local non-profit arts!

Went to see the string cheese incident november 10th 2014. Show was great. Sound was great. Problems were that the beer was almost room temperature and there was one mens room. Are you kidding me??? When questioning one of the employees about it at the front door the response was "ha ha yeah and there are 1600 people in here" Totally unacceptable!!! What a joke! Never again!

I agree with the previous post...we left a moe concert due to the drunk patrons and dangerous conditions...older usher did nothing to control the crowd - aisles were blocked, smoking was rampant and worst of all, as it is a theatre, children were present - including babies..State needs to reset their priorities or at least not sell beers 2-3 at a time.

The State Theater is a beautiful and historic building. They host plays, musicals, concerts, older movies, even some stand-up comics. UNCLE GERRY’S TIP: Make sure you spend time in Ithaca. You can hike, bike, taste some great wines, boat, and much more. The people and stores remind me of the village in NYC but cleaner.

Intimate venue. Sits roughly 2000 people, and most seats are good. I noticed that after the concert, the crowds of people were able to exit very quickly - much faster than many other venues Ive been to.

The State Theater has the best assortment of concerts in update New York. Given all the great attractions in the area its easy to make the drive to Ithaca to see one of the great shows there.

Pretty nice theatre. The screen is a bit small and weak. The staff and the amenities are fine. The food/drinks are cash-only, so take some cash if you want to get some pop-corn and drinks!

They had a bar inside the actual theater during last nights John Prine concert. There was continuous loud talking that ruined the warm-up show, and the ushers did nothing.
