Darlington is a well maintained track that gets heavy play. The recent redesign of several holes improved drainage and made the course more interesting, but it took forever for the new greens to take. The head greens keeper is a real pro and she finally got the new greens to mature by cutting down some trees thereby eliminating excessive shade. For the amount of play this course gets, she keeps it it top shape, usually unaided by the preponderance of idiots who don;t fix ball marks, What the course really needs is some rangers with enough clout to get slow players moving and with the mission of providing some on site training for ball mark abusers. Unless you start early the course is tediously slow. If you want to get in a quick 9 you can get there early and be done in 2 hours on a back 9 start. If you do play, please fix your ball marks, pick up your feet on the greens and pick up the pace--6 hours is 2 hours too long for a round of golf.

Unfortunately, my overall experience over the last two years at Darlington has been very disappointing. While the course itself is well kept, and decent for a public municipal course, it is far below comparable courses in nearby Morris County. Management of the course is very poor. The website for tee times is ancient, and Ive been told I could not play 9 holes. Even in the afternoon. Staff is very unfriendly, and marshals are non existent except on the first tee. There are also a large amount of geese near the water in the first three holes. The course could have a great short game practice area, but the two putting greens remain closed most of the spring, and randomly during the season. Which makes no sense, since the greens are very large and one could be open at all times during he week. The range needs more modern matts, and is uneven or deteriorating throughout most of the facility.

Id give the course a 3.5 or 4. Right near my office, overall pretty decent. Pretty forgiving, but the last thing I need after work is to play 18 and put 20 balls OB. The range gets a generous 2. $8 for 45 balls, I can get twice that at most other ranges in the area. The mats were nice though. So at least theres that. But I could pay someone $8/hr to search the woods for shag balls, hit them into the woods behind my house, pay $8 again for them to be retrieved and so on. Absolute worst deal Ive ever seen. Id understand if it were a grass range or if someone was there cleaning my clubs for me everytime I go... Guess Ill keep driving 20 minutes down to Bogota.

Past Adminstration made great improvements to many of the golf holes and eliminated the geese problem, but with recent Tea Party led Bergen Repubicans all of these investments are being destroyed due to lack of maintenance and upkeep. Sadly the plan to sell of county assets could even include selling this property for high destiny housing, and Republican connected developers can make millions.

I like this place. not to many flat lies at least the way I play. It has only gotten better. I think the number of rounds played each year has dropped so the course is in better shape. The current county administration has made great strides in up keep and the new reservation system that allows for same say play is excellent. Bravo to the county GOP.

Range is closed for reconstruction. Hoping it will go from a 3 Star to 4 or 5 star. I was told they are knocking down everything, and will have all new mats and balls. Should get better soon. They thought they may be open the week of 5/30.

Good conditions from tee to green. Greens could roll a little faster then Id rate this a 5... This course offers all different types of holes doglegs uphills downhills and makes you use all your clubs. Fun course

Beautiful place but not too many activities. Great if you just want to hang out by the water, go for a long walk, or fish. There is a golf course too I have no idea how much the Golf course costs.

Very atmospheric park. Its best to visit on the weekdays where you can almost have the park to yourself.

Driving range is dated and need or repaired mats. The course is quite nice and well taken care of.
