I dont write reviews. Unless atrocious or excellent, I am simply not compelled to share my experiences at restaurants. However, my experience one week ago warrants an exception. Buckle up; Its a long one. This was my second time at "The Shell," and after my first bad experience last year, I figured it was only fair if I gave it another shot. As a young adult who has been a waiter/bartender in the restaurant/catering business for over 6 years, I know it is a wise move to be polite to the people who are feeding you. I also have a range of familiarity with what good service looks like. One things for sure; it was nowhere in sight at The Seashell. Absolutely horrible service. Despite ordering immediately after we sat down, one member of my party of four didnt receive her meal for over an hour. This would be understandable if it was busy/hectic, but the outdoor patio was only at about half capacity. It would be more acceptable if our waitress (Amanda S., talking to you girl) at least gave the impression that she cared about the people she was servicing. Rather than attempting to ask the kitchen where our missing meal was, she could be seen wandering the patio talking to the bartenders and various wait staff present. After finally seeing her for the first time since we sat down, she brought the missing meal. I immediately gave her another request, since God only knew when she would return. I politely asked for a side of lettuce and tomato that was missing from my burger. She returned nearly a half an hour later only to say "Im sorry, I forgot." Flash forward just one day later, and we head to the patio-bar to celebrate a friends belated 21st birthday, despite my vehement opposition against going. Despite EVERY member of our 5 person party being over 21/22 years of age, we are refused service. When calmly asked "Why?", the manager and bouncer reply with, "We cant verify you are the person on this license," despite scanning all IDs on both available machines. When asked for another form of photo ID, I provide it. When asked for yet ANOTHER form of photo ID, I provide it. Three forms of photo identification later (a rather unnecessary amount to carry on your person, really) and I am still refused service. Absolutely pathetic. Never going back. 1 star. Rant over.

We went during the week with small children and had a great time. We didnt hear the noise that other people talked about, as we were in a room on the other side of the hotel (not facing the ocean, we were on the back parking lot side). I dont know if its worse on the weekends, but there were bands & we couldnt hear them from our rooms. We could see the rooms that people might have referred to where it would be impossible to stay with children...there are some right above the restaraunt/bar. Those rooms are actually more $$$ because they have an ocean view. The beach was steps from our room, which was really convenient with the kids & they have a shower spot to clean the sand off of you right at the beach entrance. It was also convenient to have the restaurant/bar right there when you wanted a bite to eat or if you wanted a drink (although it can get expensive). The pool is in the same place as the outdoor eating area/bar & there arent chairs around it. There is a gate around it and the restaurant tables are right up against it. Some parents brought small beach chairs to sit next to the pool if their kids were in it, but there really isnt a lot of room around it. We would just sit with our feet in the pool near the steps to watch the kids. Not ideal, but worked out ok. Its also not far from the kids rides & shopping. We could have probably walked, but took the car since we had small kids with us. The only real complaint I have was that we had a pretty rude lunch waitress one afternoon, but aside from that the staff was nice & the rooms were clean. We enjoyed our trip & would go back again.

I didnt even have the chance of staying at SSR&BC. Their incompetent staff booked my vacation for the WRONG month. Their disrespectful manager told me I am responsible for ensuring their staff does their job correctly, and stole my money without providing any service. Customers come to expect a reasonable reliance on a company, and employees thereof, to do their job correctly especially when the primary task of the business itself is to correctly book reservations for summer vacationers. Companies should hire competent labor that require EMPLOYEES to do their job correctly and not shift blame and burden upon CUSTOMERS! THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS A SHAM AND AFTER READING SOME OF THE HORROR STORIES ON THIS REVIEW, ITS A BLESSING IN DISGUISE THAT I WON"T BE SPENDING MY VACATION HERE. UNFORTUNATELY, I LEARNED A TOUGH LESSON THAT COST ME $350 +. p.s. In the end, at least I was offered (and soon to be returned) 1/2 my money back, which was the right thing to do. I admit, I failed when I overlooked inspecting my booking sheet. However, this was a first time in my life where I booked a hotel for a specific month on specific days of the week, and it was confirmed for an entirely different month on entirely different days of the week. That said, when I originally called in February and spoke to reservations I made it clear it was for August, Sunday through Thursday. That fact It was even reflected on the memo line of my deposit check, which I might add was cashed back in February waaaay before service was ever rendered.

Oceanfront rooms are TERRIBLE for actually sleeping between 10PM-2AM; impossible actually. We spent three nights at the Sea Shell, while in town for a wedding nearby. The Sea Shell does advise "Music is played daily by the pool. Our nightclub is open on certain nights, featuring bands and DJs. Music is also played during wedding receptions and special events. Please be warned that oceanfront rooms are located directly above these areas and the music will be heard and felt in these rooms." What they dont explain, is that hearing and feeling the music means talking loudly to be heard and the oceanfront rooms literally shake with the bass of the music. Apparently Thunder Thursday can draw thousands of partiers every week! All yelling and shouting over the ridiculously loud music. Dont be fooled into thinking this is a quaint Oceanside hotel, where youll enjoy the sounds of waves crashing from your open patio door. You will be a hostage to the pounding music and drinks until 2AM every night (at least all 3 nights we were there). Friends also staying at the Sea Shell, but not oceanfront, were also kept awake by the party but didnt feel the shaking. I gave up on the last night and literally slept in our car in an adjacent parking lot until 2AM, to keep from going mad from the incessant pounding. Crazy to pay $265 for a (premium) room you cant sleep in...staff was in-sympathetic. Never staying here again, hostess regretted recommending it to our group. Be warned.

The hotel itself seemed clean. I had a room on the second floor with two queen beds. It would be a little small if you are staying with children but fine for two adults. The bathroom was very clean and well stocked. They offer you a beach pass for a $25 deposit, which they refund when you return your pass. Unfortunately, I left mine with my stuff at the pool and when I returned from the bathroom it was gone along with my sun block. It seems that the can not assign the pass to you or your room because they hand them out to non-guests First day lunch I ordered a $12 veggie wrap with peppers, onions and zucchini severed with cucumber ranch dressing. What I got was (peppers, onions and 1 piece of zucchini) no dressing… I ordered off the children’s menu the next day and it was good. What I liked - *The beach is absolutely beautiful. *The rooms were very clean *The pool was saltwater * They have a nice Tiki bar near the pool * all the employee’s were very nice What I didn’t like – *The pool is fairly small for the amount of people. It turns out that even though we were paying almost $400 a night, the pool can be used by anyone that walks in off the beach. I know this because everyone I spoke to at the pool were not staying at this hotel. So, at $400 a night, I would have thought I should have been able to enjoy the pool. So would I stay here again, no. Would I eat here again, I’m not sure. I would go to the Tiki bar and use beach and pool
