Two months ago, I would have given this place 5 stars. Since then, theyve been bought by a group that is anti-pets and service animals. The hotel asks for paperwork that the ADA says shouldnt be asked for, and even though I "have it on file" according to my host- security will now accost anyone with a service animal after walking in the door. Its degrading as a human being, to have your medical history judged by a security guard that refuses to speak with hotel staff and verify paperwork is on file. Speaking with a manager only brings false promises of, "It wont happen again"- anything to get you to keep playing there. As for their rooms? DUSTY! DIRTY! PLUMBING PROBLEMS! And I dont know if theyre using bug spray or a weird cleaning product but the hotel STINKS in the earlier parts of the day when the cleaning crew is around (didnt always used to be like that). I cant walk barefoot on the carpet because its so old and gross and you just know it hasnt really been cleaned in months (ever? Again- SO. MUCH. DUST!). Windows and mirrors are smudged and dirty, so any view you once had is now marred by dirt streaks. I dont care if the rooms are comped- theyre GROSS. Oh the pictures I have of mold and holes in ceilings and just so many gross things!!! It used to not be like this!!! Same for the food- it used to be great!!! Ive gotten mild cases (yes, plural) from bad shrimp at the buffet. Ive seen them recycle food several times a week, seemingly adding more salt every time, to try and hide the aging taste. The cafe tends to not have enough wait staff and youll wait longer than you have to for beverages, let alone food. Starbucks has been closing at least an hour earlier than theyre supposed to. They used to have great food and service, but just try to go downstairs to the pavilion- their whole business seems to be about decreasing expenses and increasing profits, to the point that even the heating and air conditioning is always too hot or too cold (to save a few bucks). The staff is mostly helpful, but theyve got a bunch of new security people that dont care if youre in high limits or pennies- theyre looking for anything and will give you the boot for anything they choose. Ive had so many good memories at the Nugget, but theyve changed things in a way that isnt inviting to longtime patrons, nor is it inviting to people with disabilities or health issues. I feel so duped for giving them so many chances since theyve been bought out, but its just terrible now. There is not one, single area that I can recommend anymore. For those of you reading this far, please know I just sent yet another email off to my hostess about my experience, but the only thing I ever get in return are false promises (again, they just want people to keep playing). Its a complete waste of money here, and even the machines dont pay out like they used to. So sad how bad this place has gotten!!!

SPARKS LOCAL REVIEW ALERT: Nugget you have now LOST our FAMILY business!!! My husband and I stayed here for our staycation anniversary January 27-29 and not only had horrible customer service all weekend, in all levels of the hotel staff, but it was dirty, old, outdated and lets not name the cockroach and female hair I came across in our bathroom, having to MOVE rooms to a second room that was almost as old as hotel itself. Hard bed, tub/shower didnt work right, TV cable was broken, etc etc. . . . Actually.....Why dont we just go back to the start where during check in my husband and I were humiliated because they gave us the wrong room (double beds) but I requested (1) King size bed and they told me that because I had a "cheap" room on Groupon that I only would get the rooms they had leftover. I asked to speak with a manager and they directed me to An assistant who never spoke a word to me but typed a few buttons and I was handed new room keys. We get to the room and this is the room where we found the hair, and cockroach. It was also the WORST VEIW in the casino! Right over the freeway and next to the fans and duct A/C units that hummed ALL night!! We stayed the night in this room but early the next morning I asked to speak with a manager. She was kind and said she could upgrade us to a "New" room suite but it would be in the WEST tower and longer distance. We agreed because we thought a suite would be cool. We got to the SECOND room and found the oldest most outdated room Ive seen, like stepping into the 1970s. This is the room that had the bad tub/shower and the rock hard mattress that has been on that bed since 1970!!! The TV would work on occasion if my husband and I wiggled the cable chords just right. All I know is I have lived in sparks Nevada for 24 years and this was HORRIBLE and I have never seen a hotel/casino in such shambles! Me and my family will never be back! I hope others see this and take note! Stay at the GRAND SIERRA RESORT!!! (My hubby and I love that resort, you will too!) Love, Sparks, NV Resident.

So, we just checked out this morning, I would say our experience at the Nugget was less than we would have wanted to be as it was our first trip to Reno. We were there for a convention, so we had the opportunity to visit numerous hotels in the area, and the Nugget was sub par to all of them. If you are going to Reno and dont mind the smell of grease traps and garbage each time you enter and exit the hotel, and you dont want to use the broken down hot tubs (which had mold growing in them), and you dont mind swimming in water that looks like a polluted river (the pool water was brown) and dipping yourself in freezing water, then the Nugget is the place for you. By the way, if you are trying to be healthy and use the stairs to by pass the elevators, dont, unless you want to see what months of not cleaning and maintaining an area looks like. The staff were decent, other than we booked a king room and were given a double and informed they were out of Kings. Also, friends of ours were in a room that promised a fridge, only to find there wasnt a fridge in the location that the rest of the rooms had fridges. When they called the front desk and asked, they were told, oops sorry, but we dont even have a fridge we can bring you. This fits in, as when we called the front desk and asked if we could have some of the coffee kuerigs, there reply was, "you have a pen and pad in your room, leave housekeeping a note". Hey, Nugget, dont worry, you arent the worst location in Reno, Harrahs holds that title for us as we booked my parents there for their stay in Reno and they are a complete armpit, and their staff are rude and unhelpful, then again, the rate we were paying for this conference for a room each night was disgraceful. This is not the end of my assessment of this hotel and Reno as a whole, but to those of you thinking of traveling to Reno, avoid this hotel. Stay at the GSR, the Atlantis, or the Peppermill, they were beautiful and the staff were exceptional.
