I first played this course in 1994 and the weather had been devastatingly hot and dry. I was amazed when I hit onto the greens and saw my wedge shots hit and check as a reward to my hours of practice . My friend, that had invited me to play, had told me over and over again about this unique man that had migrated to America from Masedonia to escape Communism. His stories were amazing, but not half as amazing as his abilities to create and maintain some of the most receptive and rewarding greens I have ever played . Amatuers do not have the frequency that professionals have, when they make that special wedge shot onto a green. My excitement came when I put all my practice and all my attempts to STICK a shot, onto a green, and saw my ball look like the Pros on any Sunday on TV. The amazing thing about this was that we were in the middle of a drought stricken summer. That was when I met George Vello (The owner/.designer/ and financier of his dream of having a quality golf course with exceptional greens). If you love golf and truly appreciate special stories like family designed and built and still owned and operated dreams like Oakland Hills, then you have to come and experience this amazingly affordable golf experience. I have played many golf courses, with greens fees ,that would lead you to believe that you would have the most amazing experience of your life, based on what you have just payed!! Take a chance, come to Oakland Hills and ask if George is there. If he is, you will have a unique experience to meet a man that still loves his dream and works at preserving it seven days a week. If by chance you miss meeting George, you will still experience one of the best bargains any lover of golf could imagine!!!

Obviously these reviews were written by owners. I tried this out for the first time and when I showed up right off the bat the guy was rude stating "Dont be hitting more than one ball! You Fin single guys show up and think this is a driving range! It costs money to upkeep this course!" F- bombing like crazy and yelling. Im like wow - I just showed up and said hi. Im glad my daughter wasnt with me to listen to this guy. I think its the owner of the course. I actually played at Firekeepers Casino and talked to people about the course afterward and and a few older guys were telling me yeah no one goes here. The course is lousy and the guy who owns it is a real ahole. Concerning the course, what a joke. Its like someones backyard. No scenery and just straight fairways, no hills, no water - boring. Theres a par 3 that I used my sand wedge on and overshot the green by a mile. Said 130 yds - yeah right, try 40 yards. Also the rough is not kept up either as if you go in the rough you will have a hard time finding your ball (Not cut down enough). I went in to grab a hot dog after nine and waited 15 minutes as this one guy was taking awhile giving beers to 4 guys and I just gave up and played the front 9. By the way they have strict signs up saying you cant bring your own drinks either by the way. It was a Saturday sunny afternoon and NOONE was on the front 9 with me. Gee I wonder why. Rude swearing guy, lousy course, poorly kept up. Ill never go back. Save your money and find a nice course with nice people- This isnt one. Like I said, its obvious to me the people who wrote the other reviews have to be the owners and people who know the owner.

What a great place to play golf. The guy in the pro shop was very friendly. He came out to the parking lot to greet us. I read the reviews before going and the common feeling was the greens are great. After playing, I will agree completely! The greens are in awesome shape. They are fast and true. The rest of the course is nothing great. The fairways and rough are below average. There were dead spots everywhere. The rouge was short, it is April so I dont know if they let it grow later in the season. The course did have nice elevation change. I found it very fun. Its a very fun place to play. It is hard to find trouble. Dan, when you complain about people being rude in all of you reviews it might be time to figure out if you are accusing the wrong person. And no, I dont work for OHGC or know any that does.

My husband discovered this course while waiting for me to leave the new FireKeeper Casino about a mile away. The course is in wonderful condition and well-kept, challenging for both of us, with beautiful greens. We really enjoyed the course and the price and will definitely be back soon. I tried checking out the complaints of the whiners below my review, and golflink has no record of their review (these negative reviews were made 2 or 3 years ago.) I think if you make a tee time here, you will be pleasantly surprised and you can head over to the casino before or after golf! Golf and casino equals Great Day!!

Played this course today for the first time in 20 years! I had forgotten how great the greens are!! My group travels all over southwest/central Michigan and I have not seen finer greens anywhere and that includes the "pricey" premier courses. The fairways are in wonderful condition, all the trees are nicely trimmed along with the grass around the trees. The bunkers have "real" sand and are very well maintained. The senior rate today was $23 riding and for that.....you get a really wonderful golfing experience. As the ad says, "try it,.....youll like it. L Rice Portage, Michigan

Weve enjoyed going to Oakland Hills GC since we discovered it about a mile away from Firekeepers Casino a few years ago. Its surprising how well maintained it is, even in this 90+ degree weather. Both the greens and fairways are in fantastic shape. The course is interesting and fair to both men and women. The price is well worth it. We pass up numerous other courses on our hour and 20 minute drive there, thats how much we like it. You will surely enjoy this course as much as we do. Drivers

I used to golf this course when I was a kid (13-17) I really liked it. I always enjoyed the time with my dad. Unfortunately I just found out that they have this stupid course rule. NO CHILDREN UNDER 10. I could understand not allowing unsupervised children. I would have been less irritated if they would have told me that rule when I made my tee time. VERY POOR MANAGEMENT. its too bad that all the good parents have to be penalized for being a parent. It is a shame I do like the course

I love this course. The fairways and greens are very well maintained. The greens are very receptive. The course is lined with beeautiful trees. Even on the busiest of days, I often feel like I am out there alone. The price for membershp is an extremely good deal. There are clubs that have nicer club houses, but I go to golf, not to hang out in the club house so the club house is fine with me.
