I visited this park on an August afternoon with my son. It is easy to miss the signs to the park, but once I found it I was generally impressed. The well marked trail through the park is gradual and has different widths allowing for time to talk and time to think. Visually, it has a nice mix between woods, creeks, and fields with little encroachment of the modern world. All of these factors and a comfortable distance helped my mind focus on the topic at hand. The story and ideas around the Underground Railroad remain compelling. While there is little documented history directly connecting this park to the Underground Railroad, the self-guided tour helped me put a place and gave me time to experience and meditate on the different aspects of this important moment in the human story. I left with a deeper understanding. Of course the free Black and Quaker story are developed. I was pleased to see a layer of ecology included as well. Next time you want to share a story of courage with someone or find yourself (yet again) in despair about the state of race relations in this country, take a hike here. You too might be impressed.

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Only $7 to go into the museum for adults and free for kids under 6. Walking around the museum only took about 30 minutes, but well worth it. Kids loved it! Then we hiked up the trail which was the highlight of the day! Such a beautiful day and amazing scenery. The spring was a good place to stop for a bit and have a bite to eat.

Newly developed Barn Museum is now open! The Saturday Guided UGRET hikes still happen at 10am. Come see this splendid presentation of history and community and farm life and architecture and craftsmanship. Woodlawn Manor, Quakers (come visit Sandy Spring Meeting, too), Slavery, freedom, nature study. Oh, and you can schedule your wedding reception here, too!

Great compound which shows you the history of slavery, rural life, and the Civil War in Montgomery County. There is a garden, Manor house, visitor center, and a 19th century barn (which has been converted into a Museum), all adjacent to the actual Underground Railroad Trail. Good learning experience.

Its serene, kept clean and the visitor center staff is very friendly. This place offers plenty of history about the local Underground Railroad Trail.
