I have never experienced anything so condemnable in my life as my failed attempt to explore this place as a new regular breakfast option. It was clear that I was unwelcome from the point of view of my "server," who apparently did not want to wait on a one top. Her bad attitude was noticeable from the start, and even though I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first, it soon became clear that she simply was mad that I was by myself, and had no intention of waiting on me. She brought me my beverage, but REFUSED to take my meal order, spending the entire time acting as if she were busy with other things. I am a patient man who likes to relax with breakfast and coffee while reading. So at first I did not mind a few extra moments. But I started to get restless as my hunger was awakening. I looked around and my server made eye contact with me several times; each time she immediately turned as if suddenly needing to do something else. At one point, she was standing directly in front of me, and when we made eye contact she turned around to pre-bus another table. After nearly 20 minutes I had decided that this was all a disaster, but decided to see if she could manage to take my meal order before I finished my coffee. That was when I saw some other folks be escorted to a table on the back patio. I then saw my server pass by to greet the new table, bring them waters and a dish for their service animal, and I began to wonder if they would have their order taken before me. I watched my server walk back inside, and once again when she made eye contact with me she began to turn as if going to do something else. This time she hesitated and turned back to me. I thought perhaps she would finally ask to take my order. Wrong! Instead, she picked up my menu and asked "You dont need this anymore, do you?" What!?! Of course I dont "need" it anymore, because I figured out what I would have wanted 20 minutes ago! So she took my menu, without ever taking my order, to give it to someone else!! It took that table less than 5 minutes to be seated and have their order taken, using MY menu, all while I had yet to be asked for a meal order. I finished my coffee at that point, and was about ready to be out the door. This "server" who obviously didnt want my business did manage to notice my empty coffee cup the very moment it was empty and refilled it. Still didnt ask for an order. So I got up and asked someone else to speak with a manager. Thats when I find out that there was no manager or supervisor working. Great. No wonder something like this happens. The cats away, and the mice will play. To her credit, the other person I spoke to at this point was very apologetic, and diplomatically suggested that maybe it was a miscommunication and that maybe each thought the other was going to be my server. But thats not even close to what happened. My server clearly knew she was my server, she just didnt want to be bothered with a solo top, so thought shed be clever and push me out the door! Guess what....you picked the wrong person because I spent too many years in the industry and I know all the tricks that unscrupulous servers try to pull. I guess Ill just have to make myself a regular somewhere else.

I couldnt decide whether to put 3 or 4 stars. We had breakfast there recently and enjoyed it. It is artsy and informal. On the walls are exhibits of paintings or photographs of local artists. There was a guitarist playing while we were there. From looking at their website they are a true coffeehouse of the musical variety, not just food and drink. They have quite a range of people who play there. It seemed small until I went back to the bathroom and found there was another room in the back and in warm weather there are tables outside in a secluded little area. The waiter was friendly and despite the place being full was attentive. No idea what it is like for lunch or dinner but the bacon and cheese quiche was very good. The pain au chocolat was not your traditional one, the dough was lighter and puffier, but it was still good.

We were refused service. Waited in line at the counter for about 10 minutes, the barrista overheard that we wanted to sit with our coffee and said that we had to sit and order from a server. Sat down, waited for another 10 minutes, no server arrived. Approached barrista again asking to simply order one coffee, she refused and said that they were too busy, though no one was in line and she was doing exactly nothing.

49 West is always a joy to go to. The food is great (I particularly enjoy the bulgogi tacos or the veggie quesadilla special on Monday night). The live music creates a local ambiance, and the servers always have their own unique personalities and style. I feel like Im at home with friends and real genuine people not fake smile-masked drones. 49 is one of my favorite places to go, and I recommend it full heartedly.

What was supposed to be a quick coffee break at this hole-in-the-wall café on the way home turned out to be quite the great live jazz performance I stumbled on by pure, happy accident. :)) Life can make you feel lost at times, but with its laid-back, artsy yet cozy ambiance and helpful staff, 49 West will definitely make you feel found again and again.

Cozy cafe in the heart of Annapolis. Owner Brian Cahalan has established the perfect European Cafe in America. The food is great (try the any of the deserts). A good selection of wine or beer as well as coffee (obviously). Art surrounds you both visually and audially. A perfect place to relax.

They always have a great variety of music and while the place is small, weve always found a place to sit. The food is very good too. Some of our local musicians play here and we enjoy hearing them. The place is intimate, not a large music hall making for an enjoyable evening every time we go.

49 West is the classiest place in Annapolis. The service is very genuine and professional, and the ambience is awesome. I love to stop for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday mornings, and listen to Jonathon Stone play Brazilian and classical guitar. Its a must check out!

This is an excellent excellent local restaurant. Great menu selection, casual atmosphere, interesting art and great wait staff. Try the celery root! You say "what ? ". The only place in the northern hemisphere that serves great celery root salad! Try it

A great place to come and chill. Great service, food and atmosphere. Their coffee bar is top notch as well as their wine. Its like they were able to take the entire charm of Annapolis and fit it into one building!
