The Audubon Zoo is our favorite place in New Orleans. Plan on spending all day here and wear comfortable shoes. Also, wear clothes you dont mind getting wet. At "monkey hill" there is a waterfall and areas to splash around and cool off. There is also a small water park with a splash pad and lazy river (it cost extra). If you have kids under 8yrs old or you have heavy bags, Id suggest renting a stroller. Its $13 with a $5 deposit, but its worth it! There are several places to eat there; a food court type place is at the beginning, a Cajun restaurant at the back, and several food carts throughout. When we first arrive my kiddo is always too excited to eat and wants to start seeing the animals. It works out best if we stop and eat at the Cajun place. At that point, were getting tired and it gives us a chance to stop, eat, relax and regroup before finishing. There are also bathrooms, a gift shop and a photo booth there. There is another gift shop at the exit. Each gift shop has items not found at the other. The butterfly garden, zoo, and aquarium are all part of the Audubon. If you plan on going to more than one of these it is cheaper to buy the Audubon membership. That way you can go to all three as much as you like for a whole year. You also get to bypass the long ticket line and get a discount in the gift shops.

The Audubon Zoo was beautiful and there were many amazing exhibits to see. The staff was courteous, the food was pretty good, and prices were about average for the general zoo expectation. I am giving my experience three stars because of the very unreasonable rule that adults must purchase a Cool Zoo pass just to be present with their kids while they splash around. When I first approached the gate, I did not have a pass for myself or for my son. The family ahead of me hot in and the adults did not have passes, but the staff member said that was okay. So I bought a pass for my son and came back a little later and was told I would have to buy a pass for myself. The lines were extremely long and I did not want to wait again to get myself a pass. I think it is very dumb to have to pay to get in when my only intention was to sit on the side. I realize many adults would take advantage of this but there are always sharpie stamps for people not getting wet or having Banda for those who do purchase passes. I tho k its a huge waste of money and am really disappointed! Shame on you!

Worst zoo in the United states. I visited the zoo today with my wifes service animal a 6mo old conure. He has been isolated since birth. I am a physician have a BS in biology and have completed medical school and a residency in internal medicine and a second in anesthesiology . According to the zoos vet no one with bird contact should enter thezoon. I was told the bird ....freckles was a threat to the bird population of the zoo. Even though he was not to be allowed in areas where other birds were. I was told his dander was a danger.....but my wife and I were fine to go in zoo without him......medically no parrot owner should be allowed access if he is correct or others with viral symptoms. .....we all remember bird flu correct....I wish I had the luxury of deciding who were my patients...he is the mentality who created.leprosy colonies. Funny the Audubon society was founded on our feathered friends and my wife and freckles had such a miserable experience with a man who needs a lititle more education. ....all those who understand please voice your opinions thanks

This is the best zoo Ive ever been in my life. Staff is polite and professional. I got lucky and saw a chameleon being fed by crickets. Not sure you will see so many cool snakes somewhere else. So if you are into snakes - you must go! The zoo was designed pretty well. Monkeys, snakes, predators are all separate. Must see alligators. Also you need to have at least two bottles of water. This zoo is huge and you should expect to spend at least 1.5-2 hours. I spent around 2.5 hours. The price might seem expensive, but trust me this zoo has almost all animals. Its totally worth it and I will definitely come back next time Im in New Orleans. I already told all my friends to visit it and showed them over 100 pictures and video I took there. I dont recommend you to plan something else after going there. Most likely you will be exhausted from walking (I think you will walk around 3-5 miles). Id also recommend you to eat before and after visiting this place.

Very nice zoo with a lot of animals!! I would recommend this zoo to anyone visiting NOLA. Im giving it 4 stars though because its very expensive compared to other zoos Ive been to! There is a very cool water park inside the zoo too but that is extra (we didnt go to it). Also the zoo is very spread out and seems more like a nature walk once you get out to the swamp area. This is more of a conservation zoo which is great but some of the animals were hard / impossible to see. The swamp area is cool if youre not from Louisiana but very open and a lot of the zoo seems more like a nature walk. Also the layout is kind of weird and hard to leave if you want out. We had to walk about half a mile to exit the park because they had buildings in the way and no path through. I recommend you go see the tiger, jaguar (which is rarely seen in the back of the park), and otters. Very cool! The zebras and rhinos were nonexistent though. :/

Ive had a very good day at this zoo. I took my time to enjoy it and see everything. So the zoo entertained me for about 5 hours. I especially enjoyed the swamp area as this is something that no other zoo (that I know of and Ive seen many worldwide) offers. This zoo does not host the big names like pandas, grizzly bears or polar bears. But doesnt need it. Thanks to the swamp it has lots of other unique exhibitions and animals. Definitely worth your visit. Parking is free of charge. There are many areas for young children to explore. Like digging for fossils, watching an Asian puppet show or climb a stunning oak tree. Children would also love the dinosaur section. The only negative experience Ive had was that the staff wasnt willing to warm up my baby food! Couldnt believe she said it was good from outside that she wasnt allow to warm up. Its baby food for crying out loud for my 10 month old!
