Im always looking for new places to check out in the Downtown area, so lo and behold my surprise when I found that Rain Cafe served a full menu. I stopped by on my weekly visit to the Old Town area.
Surprise, surprise, Rain is a Mediterranean restaurant serving the hummus and Fattoush salad that populates the majority of Wichita restaurants. To my legitimate surprise, however, I realized that there isnt a Mediterranean restaurant in the Downtown area, so I guess Rain chose its cuisine properly.
Whatever it serves, the kibbe balls I ordered as an appetizer were great, a fried ball of ground beef, onions, and pine nuts, it was pleasantly different from the Mediterranean far Ive gotten at other places, and it tasted good, to boot.
The falafel sandwich I ordered as my meal was pretty good, too, though I thought that it could have used a couple more of those fried chick pea balls - the bottom of my pita pocket was nothing but lettuce and tomatoes. The scoop of red pepper hummus that came along with it was good and different enough to situated itself from other restaurants, and the tabouli was straight-up great, featuring a tremendous citrus accent that was quite refreshing.
Rains menu is best suited to lunch, but it offers it for dinner, too. It should also be noted, however, that while I dont know if it would be fair to label Rain a "gay bar" per se, there did seem to be a larger-than-average LGBT population than you might find at an average bar (which is to say, none at an average bar). I personally dont care one way or the other, but I realize that other folks in this city might, so now you know. As it is, Rain is the only choice for Mediterranean fare in the Downtown area, and luckily its not bad.

Good and Bad. Banner implies buffet but brunch IS NOT buffet (in case u were wondering)... and if you call they say brunch is $5 but it is really $5 per serving (they offer like 4 or 5 dishes to choose from menu)! Never seen a brunch that wasnt a buffet but oh well. Anyhow, I ordered the Biscuits&Gravy that came with bacon and hashbrowns (should be 2 eggs instead of bacon but maybe this is the meatlovers or something. The gravy was actually pretty good but they ruined it with two cold and very hard biscuits that were not even cut in half. The bacon was pathetic, definitely the cheapest around - it was little, greasy and had absolutely NO MEAT and was just all fat. The fried potatoes were also pretty good (seasoned with taragon or oregano possibly) and were not to greasy and mostly crunchy. The gravy (not the biscuits) and the potatoes were the highlight. My wife had the omelet with no complaints except coffee was weak. Service was 3 out of 5 I guess since he didnt. Check with us much or refil beverages. Get a brunch buffet with hot cut biscuits and well be back otherwise probably not.

Was there Sunday May 24, 2015 Bartendar - Storm. If you could get him to the bar, you could order a drink, elsewise he was out smoking with a group of friends. Even when you went outside and he saw you, he never returned. Another table tried to pay thier bill and was made to wait until HE decided to come back in. This seems to be the norm now at Rain. Nice outside patio, but poor to no service. Maybe the owner should invest in employees that do not smoke and than just maybe someone would stay behind the bar. I think its classified as a bar and restaurant. Ended up not eating there. Owners loss. There is alot of money the owner is missing out on. To bad for him after dumping all that money into the place.,

First time diner on Saturday evening 7/25/15 prior to attending a concert. Food was great!! Server (unfortunately, cant recall his name-Latin, I believe?) was wonderful. VERY ATTENTIVE AND SUPER PERSONABLE! We enjoyed it so much that we returned to RAIN for a nightcap after the concert that evening, and AGAIN on Sunday for the fabulous brunch! Very happy to have found this place. The atmosphere, decor, service, food, cleanliness, all combined rates a SOLID 9.5 outve 10 in my book. LOVE IT! (:

Hands down the worst service Ive ever had at a restaurant. We waited at least thirty minutes just to have someone take our order, and there were only two or three other customers in the whole place. The waiter was too busy mingling at the bar to be prompt about anything. Lunch took a good two hours. Same thing happened when we went back to test if our first experience was just a fluke. Its a shame. It would be really cool, unique place that Id visit again if they had a better staff.

Id give zero stars if I could. A group of my friends were roofied and it turns out this is NOT an isolated experience. Looking at posts about this place it appears that this has been a trend for a while now that people are getting drugged and the owner not only doesnt care but says that these people should be HAPPY someone was nice enough to buy them a drugged drink in the first place. They also dont directly deny that it happened. Hmm.

we loved this place! visited and stayed at Broadview Historic Hotel for a conference and found this beautiful bar! The food was great- i had a chicken schwarma and my friends had a BIG rueben and an oldfashioned hamburger, all to die for! We came back on fri night and it turned into a nightclub/ danceclub with great "pop"(?no rap) music. Its beautiful and the staff was cute and waay friendly. LOVED IT! Loved Wichita!

Was searching around for a different food option and read a review about the chicken shwarma. Having had it elsewhere in the past, I was looking forward to trying it...GOOD STUFF. The lounge was very comfortable and the staff was friendly. Id love to see how this place is later in the night, but for a dinner or lunch spot - cant beat it. Awesome.

This establishment personally harassed and victim blamed four victims who were roofied at their establishment mere hours after the incident happened. They back pedaled, deleted the original post, though many of us have screen shots, and are attempting to delete all negative posts and reviews.

This bar protects men who roofie femmes. When the woman in question brought this to their attention, she was told that she should be glad a man bought her a shot at all, and continued to belittle her on social media when she shared her story to protect people. This place is TRASH.

Found this place by accident trying to find someplace else. Food was great. Place looked great one service person acted like she took issue or had a problem with us gave us attitude. I still say place rocks and she may have just been having a bad day.

Their business is known for allowing people (mostly women) to get drugged and assaulted, then shaming the victim and letting the known perpetrators back into the establishment. Plus the drinks are overpriced and mediocre tasting anyway.
