In the seating behind sound or lighting guy in the balcony section you cant see but half the stage and none of the orchestra. What I could see was the booth guys giant head rolling around blocking the stage as he slid back and forth across a the six foot section of his booth the entire time. To make matters worse there is apparently no one to enforce the No Talking while the play is happening policy that most theaters tend to take rather seriously. During the entire first act of The Nutcracker the woman behind us loudly performed a running commentary to a four year old, as the child kicked the back of my fiancées chair and prattled on and on about whatever popped into her head. Even though I had to work for over 12 hours to pay for two tickets we left during the intermission because everything was so terrible. Also their tickets are Way overpriced for the quality of the theater and show. Obviously extremely dissatisfied and will not be going back to this theater. They should Not be selling seats in areas of the theater that they know very well people cant see the stage from.

I went to the Englert Theatre for the first time last night to see one of my favorite bands, Beach House. The venue was very nice, with easy access to refreshments and bathroom facilities. The place was clean well maintained from what I saw. The only real downside was the security. There was a man, probably in his mid 60s running around the section I was sitting in warning & yelling at points about people using their cellphones. He was so very much more distracting from the entertainment that I was there to enjoy than the kids snapping a quick pick to capture a moment. I can understand the policy being in place for a play or classical performance, but at a rock show with fog machines & bright stage lights, a few folks taking a few pictures should not be an issue. In summary, next time a band I dig is playing the Englert, Ill try to catch them in Omaha.

Quite the lovely place is the Englert! Very rustic feeling theater with enough modern touches that your pretty sure no stagecoach bandits will be raidingnthe place. Lots of seating and they have a surprising number of solid shows coming here. From music to theater and dance, theyve pretty much got you covered for whatever mood youre in. All in all this is a very good spot and seems to fit well with the rest of the downtown. They host a ton of local theater and have plenty of touring acts that come through as well. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. Theyve probably got something that you like!

LOVED IT! Great performances and the sound tech clearly knows his stuff! You can tell he stores all his sound information in that bulbous head of his quite well. Very impressed, highly recommended. The bathroom sanitary procedure MUST be top knotch - orally tested each seat, in both bathrooms, didnt get sick! Really progressive, its an integrated theatre, which is a huge step for Iowa! Kudos! Let it be the shining beacon of the theatre community, representative of all that is good, holy, and thespian, in this, the American live musical performance arts culture. Yeah boi.

The Englert is beautiful two story local theater that hosts various events through out the year. They are a regular venue in many of the towns festivals ( Mission Creek, the Witching hour, Green Gravel...) There isnt a bad seat in the house, it is pretty fantastic.

The Englert is a historic theater that has been renovated to its former glory, and is owned and managed by a non-profit. Its my favorite place for live music. Theres really not a bad seat in the house, and its a very intimate venue. Buy a ticket & see a show!

What a great old theatre! I was on the balcony for Paula Poundstone this past weekend for the first time. Great ushers and other staff! Im 63" and seating had enough leg room! I cant tell you how often places like this where I have to turn my legs to fit!

We went to a concert by Art Garfunkel -- it was glorious! The Englert is a wonderful theater in the heart of Iowa City. The ushers were very helpful and the doorman was delightful. We always love going to the Englert.

A lovely historic place. Got to a rock concert and the upper level has an art gallery at the bar area. They were exhibiting some stunning photos of pop and punk icons from Blondie to Divine from the film Pink Flamingos.
