I took my 3 and 6 year old sons here for a surprise overnight trip. We took both of the main cave tours and stayed one night in the Dogwood camping cabin. Theres not much that could have made my trip any better. All three of us were entertained and educated on the easily accessible cave tours. The local teens giving the tours were well informed and clearly passionate about the caves. Goofy puns abound and the trips are affordable and a good length for almost any visitor, though Im not sure about wheelchair accessibility unless theres a cave entrance I didnt see. The cave itself is beyond description and surpassed any expectations I had of its natural beauty. The history behind it is pretty cool too from the story of its discovery by local children exploring with just candles to the multiple uses its seen since opening in 1883. The campground facility was one of the nicest Ive ever seen. We stayed in a camping cabin which was just an air conditioned room with bunk beds and a mini fridge. Each cabin and all the campsites have a fire pit and picnic table an easy access to city water at numerous locations. Many of the campsites have permanent wooden gazebos over the picnic tables also. There are shower and restroom facilities within walking distance of it all and the gift shop/cave entrance is also right nearby. The whole area was clean, well maintained, and picturesque with lots of shady areas. Service was impeccable and there are so many activities to partake in. We will be making this a regular trip in the future especially as my boys get older and are able to take part in the canoe trips and more advanced cave adventures that are also offered here. I can not recommend this place enough!!!

The cave was great. We did the Crystal Palace Tour. You are up close and personal with the tour and get a great view of the different formations and other features such as underground streams and ponds. There was variety with the tour in what we saw. It wasnt a repeat of the same thing for 45 minutes. The tour kept the attention of our 7 year old daughter and 11 year old niece the entire time so its a great family tour also. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the atmosphere underground light with humor. Be sure to take a sweatshirt as it is cool underground and if you are taller, watch your head! THere are a few low areas you walk through. The gift shop had a great variety of items including awesome rock formations along with minerals and gems you can buy. No worries, they did not come out of these caves! I cant think of any negative to our experience except maybe that the parking lot is a little tight for a larger vehicle but that is pretty minor and my truck made it though ok. Definately recommend this cave as a must see if you are in the area. It was about 40 minutes from French Lick where we stayed.

Absolutely fantastic place to visit! The staff was friendly. Our tour guide, Dani, was amazing! She was so knowledgeable about the caves. She has a passion for caves and draws you into that passion. At the beginning of the tour, I was not looking forward to spending 45 minutes underground. But as Dani walked us through the caves, she brought them to life in a way that no National Geographic documentary can. I recommend this for families with older kids. My sons are 10 years old and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The gift shop had many nice items that can be purchased to remind you of your experience in the caves. The souvenir picture that was captured inside the cave was also a nice addition to the experience. Overall, it is an experience that all must try at least once in their life time.

Over all neat cave, unfortunately it has suffered MAJOR destruction as it was not well protected by its owners as it is still privately owned to this day. The destruction ranges from countless broken Stalactites, peoples names written on the walls, and coins stuck to the caves ceilings (they still allow this today, toss a coin and make a wish). The cave is lit in such a way as to illuminate areas which are still in fair condition and bringing your own flash light is frowned upon! I was deeply saddened by the whole experience and would say that this attraction is OK if you have NEVER seen a cave before, but if you have be prepared for disappointment in its condition and the folks that have taken care of it since its discovery in the late 1800s.

It;s 15/adult.... Plus tax, would make it a total of over $40 for my boyfriend and I to see the cave. The nature trail is nothing more than a patch of woods. A black dog was terrorizing us and our dog (no dogs allowed) who was in our vehicle. The owner said there wasn't anything she said she could do about the dog. Our biggest beef was that there were 6 employees, you have to wait 45 min to an hour for a tour. But the gift shop.... Where they steal the gems and rocks from our national landmark... Sell them and make their money.... Why they would charge is beyond me.... But we were not happy. At all. Out of our way and all.... Waste of time. This place sucks!!!!!

Excellent tour with guide Larry. He was clearly very knowledgeable about the cave and loved his job. It was a joy to see all the formations and different rooms. The grounds are beautiful as well. If you go during the non-peak season times (summer and winter), you might receive a more personal tour experience since groups are likely to be smaller. The cave is cold (52 degrees) so bring a jacket if touring in the summer. Loved pursuing the gift shop and looking at all the trinkets, rock formations, and fossils. Overall a nice experience on a late weekday afternoon.

Took 2 tours today and was very impressed with the caves and the tour guides! Larry was absolutely phenomenal. Full of interesting information and a great speaker. Really made the already beautiful tour even better. Our second tour guide was Johnnie who also did a great job! For a high school kid, he was so well spoken and full of information. The "cave humor" was the best part. ;-) The caves are 52 degrees, so dress warm! Gift shop has some neat things. I highly recommend Marengo Cave!
