This is our 2nd year spending Memorial Day at Hammell Woods. We drop kayaks in at Eaton Forest Preserve on 135th and float 3-4 hours down the DuPage river. We are able to stop and the Hammel woods access and pull our boats right up to the campground. Its small enough to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but close enough that you get pizza delivered (which we do) its very private and inexpensive and you can drink here which can be hard to come by in our area. Tent camping only. Have a small dog park. Bathrooms are a 2 min walk away and have always been incredibly clean and cared for. Plenty of parking. Only negative: 3 years ago a friend had 2 kayaks stolen overnight.

This is the entrance for Hammel Woods off of Rt. 59 near Crispy Waffle. I love this forest preserve and am always amazed at how many birds we see that are unique and beautiful. I love driving through in the morning to see the deer pretty much all year around. Look closely....they hide in the woods near the grassy field.

Nice local forest preserve along the Dupage river. Theres a nice paved bike path that extends north of the area, and lots of walking paths among the trees. It can get a but muddy after rain though.

Nice, quiet clean park. Can be pretty busy most days but its got a pretty long trail if youre looking for a good walk or run. I bring my dog to the dog park there almost every day.

Peaceful place for a walk, or a hike or a bike ride. Today while riding my bike on the paved trail I discovered a dirt path down to the river with some beautiful views.
