Gateway has been my favorite course for a long time now, love the fairways and greens the course has me drooling at times with how nice it is. However this past weekend I was disappointed. I played on Sunday and I understand weekend rates are higher. My buddy and I payed $60 which I know is a normal rate for gateway in its prime its easily a $70 course. So paying $60 we anticipated it to be in great shape. Well that was not the case last sunday the greens had been recently air rated which I understand needs to happen but the greens were farm from a true roll. Very grainy and bouncy everytime you would put. The fairways are normally great too but were pretty spotty on this day lots of hard spots with a lot of unfilled divots. The tee boxes (most of them) were not ideal along with a lot of the rough areas to be extremely patchy with no grass. We just felt the course was over priced given the course conditions on this particular day. Defiantly will always love and play this course but the rate should be adjusted accordingly given the course conditions.

Course was awesome, lacked bathrooms throughout, and lacked quality of service. Long story short, the staff attempted to get us to pay again after we had already paid. And attempted to tell us we couldnt take our wives out with us. Now, normally if we had showed up and were told that: it wouldnt have been a problem. But we had called and specifically asked if it would be a problem, and if we had to pay a Companions Fee, which wouldnt have been a big deal. But were told they didnt have enough carts and were waiting on some for other players. Seems to be a lack of concern, maybe they should invest in some carts. Most courses Ive played at have way more than is needed and can accommodate anyone. We were pleased with the quality of and condition of the course, we were however, not pleased with the Speedway and noise level. It was super loud and distracting, not very good etiquette. Overall, wasnt a terrible experience, but we will not be returning based on the experience we did have.

I am a 50+ round a year player and Gateway is by far my favorite public course in St. Louis. The greens are in better shape than most courses greens and tee boxes since its all bent grass fairways and well maintained thanks to a very skilled and caring staff! In addition, the kitchen serves a fantastic lunch at bargain prices. If you work downtown, sneak over to grab a bite to eat at lunch - you will not be disappointed. As much as I travel, I see and play a lot of courses throughout the United States and I rank it up there with the best sub $100 courses I play, especially tee times as affordable at $29 and $34 during the weekday mornings and afternoons before traditional "twilight" hours.

FIX YOUR FREAKING DIVOTS!!!!!!!!! Course is beautiful and a lot of fun to play. I was though very surprised to see so many divots, clean pro looking cuts out of the turf with the divot laying near by! THATS JUST LAZY FOLKS, and I wish theyd fine and/or kick offenders off the course for doing damage that will last a long time. Gateway National will be a regular for me and I cant wait to get out there again.

Great spot for a round of golf ... and a swim. e.g. By the time you get to #16, and the beers have fully kicked in, driver from the back tees seems logical. Splat! ... into GoosePoop Lake. From there, a final puff on your cigar, a quick cool-off dip, a drop-area recovery shot, and another beer will set you up for some serious undulation on the green. Or is it me? "East St. Louis, anyone...?"

Always a challenging round, and the shape of this course used to rival any country club in the area. In recent years Ive seen this shape of this course go down hill from slower greens to clumpy rough where you might have a good lie, or you might be on a dirt patch. At $73, I would expect the course to be in tip top shape like it was years ago when they were charging $60.

Very hard golf course, usually in very good shape. Links course that plays almost 8000 from tips with narrow fairways and can be windy. Check race schedule at track next to it, will be very noisy if there is a race that day. Early tee times are better, it plays slow during the middle of the day when people get backed up because of how hard it is.

Its not too exciting a course, but nice enough to play. A flat course. Modest clubhouse inside, decent 18 outside. You come here to get your swings in, but not to impress a client with a country club experience. If you have business to see car races, the Gateway Track is next door.

Nice course - not too hard but still interesting. A nice long par 5 in the mix and a couple of nice par 3s. The range is in really rough shape- not good - needs an overhaul. The grill is tasty enough and reasonably priced.

The course is fine. There is no rough and the bunkers are a joke. I havent seen the bunkers maintained or raked by the staff in years! Bunkers are a part of the course condition just as much as cutting the grass.

Beautiful golf course if you have all day to play. Three foursomes per hole on back 9 and a fivesome two groups ahead on a Saturday. Quit after 14 holes and 4.5 hours.

long, challenging, well groomed. five stars except for the fact that all the standing water attracts a ton of bugs that are just unpleasant in the summer.
