Ok so I had my birthday party here back in February, and I was meaning to write a review but just never got around to it but Ill do it now. So I got table service in the Century Room, and I was told that everybody who came would get a free drink. All my guests show up, and the door people told me that I had to have a minimum of 7 people in order to have my table. I had 8 guests. But then they told me that only "6" people came through, and that they would only give me 6 drink tickets, even though the minimum for the table was 7. I told them that I could bring everybody downstairs and that they could count them, but they straight up said, "Look, we dont care how many people you have upstairs, were only going to give you 6 because we only have it down that 6 people came through this door, if you have a problem take it up with the promoter you booked with." So I go and talk to Rick, and explain the situation to him. I was really mad that the doormen were so disrespectful to me, but Rick told me not to worry about it and gave me the two extra drink tickets and gave me an extra one because it was my birthday. Really nice guy, and genuinely cared about me and my friends having a good time. I go back to my friends and we all do shots. Our server was Carly and we couldnt have asked for better service from her. She was pouring us drinks, interacting with everybody at the table, and really did everything to make us feel right at home. She was phenomenal. I was only going to order one bottle, but because we were all having a good time, and we were given amazing service, we end up getting 4. Fast forward to the end of the night. One of my friends who was supposed to buy one of the bottles ends up getting thrown out, but I checked in with him the next day and he said that he couldnt even stand up proper. So no big deal. He said that he deserved to be thrown out, and he said that they were nice about it, so thats cool. Bouncers gotta do their job so I get it and nobody was mad about that. So I cover everybodys bottle, and for whatever reason my card was getting declined, probably because I dont normally spend $1000+ in one night in the city. I speak to the manager Dash and let him know that I gotta reach my bank to let them know to authorize the charges, and he is cool about it and directs me where to go so that I can speak to them in a more quiet environment. I end up paying the tab, and he asks me how everybodys night was. I tell him that I had an amazing birthday, and he gives me another free shot because he knows how much I just spent at his club, and he was genuinely a nice guy. All in all it was still one of the best birthdays that Ive ever had. Im willing to give the door people the benefit of the doubt that they just miscounted, or maybe I did have one of my guests go through a different door. Who really knows. All I know is that they were still respectful to my friend who they had to throw out for being too intoxicated, Rick saved the day by hooking me up with extra drink tickets, Carly was the bomb, and Dash was also super understanding with my card issues and also hooked me up with a free drink. I will 100% definitely book another event here. Im really happy that Rick reached out to me about having my birthday at the Mid, and I dont think that I would have had as much fun at any other venue downtown. I also would not have ordered 4 bottles if it werent for Carlys awesome service, and Rick being so cool with me about the drink ticket situation. I also really appreciated Dash being understanding about my bank issues and that last birthday shot at the end of the night was just the cherry on top. A+ 10/10 I still have friends telling me how much fun they had that night, and thats why I made it a point to come back and write this review. Im sure that Ill reach out to Rick again soon to have another event here. I cant thank you guys enough I had an awesome time.

Ive come here many times. Vallet for $10 is nice. You can RSVP on their site to get in for free before 11:30 unless there is a big name playing (even then you can sometimes still do it). After 11:00 there starts to get to be a big line out front, which until 1 is most likely them just trying to keep people out there so it looks like a happening place. Maybe they need another person at the door to get people in there and drinking sooner. The warmup DJs often play some crappy stuff, even up til 1 AM. I feel like most people are just going along with it politely trying to have a good time, but the DJs could definitely be playing more party music. Unless the headliner is Techno or Deep House, just play Vocal House/Dubstep/Mashups/Remixes, thats what people want to hear. Headliners usually come on at 1:30 and are really good. I would estimate that The Mid has more big name DJs than any other club in Chicago and if you look at their past events, almost everyone has played there in the 2 years theyve been open. Drinks are reasonably priced and good. There are some places to sit down early in the night, but they usually fill up with bottle service. The crowd tends to be younger with a lot of hipsters and young people on Fridays. There tend to be a lot of single guys that stand around the dance floor area, which I guess is probably typical. The only thing I dont like about The Mid is that on Fridays and Saturdays, they have at least half, if not two-thirds of the dance floor area taken up by VIP tables. This makes the remaining dance floor super-packed and unpleasant to even be in, and forget about dancing. The bar areas on the side also get pretty backed but wouldnt be much fun to stand around in even if they werent packed. Its hard to get a drink or even get around inside the place when its busy. Count on your shoes getting stepped on. If the place wasnt super-packed because of the VIP tables, I probably wouldnt go anywhere else. (Maybe they could charge more at the door to make up for lost bottle revenue? - 100% margin guys) Because its so crowded, Ill only go if its a big name or something I really want to see. Fridays will usually be less crowded and I went on a Thursday once and that wasnt too bad.

Pro: 1. Unlike many others, Ive never had a problem with the staff at The MID. Theyve been as courteous as can be expected while managing a horde of mostly drunk patrons. Even for a club, the bartenders are exceptionally beautiful. 2. Also, The MID does pull world-class talent. Con: 1. The club is seriously over-packed. As the headliner comes on to play, there is (inevitably) a wave of pushing as people try to crowd onto the floor and you just get moshed around for 15 minutes trying to stay upright. 2. There are always people trying to cross from one side to the other across the dance floor, rather than around it. On a popular night, youre probably getting bumped into every 45 seconds. It really kills the mood if you love the music. 3. The "drunk douche" / "im just here to dance" ratio can be very high, esp. when big-name DJs come through or Fri and Sat night. Again, thats a mood killer. Despite this, the people inside are surprisingly friendly most of the time. Even as youre stepping on each others feet and occassionally getting elbowed in the face, people apologize, smile, and keep dancing. The MID _can_ feel a little elitist, some big spenders and pretty faces come through. If you really want to dance and enjoy the music, avoid Fri/Sat nights and go during the week.
