Intro: The Woodlands Golf and Country Club in Alton IL is one of many ways to spend a warm summer afternoon in July. Weather: When teeing off the temp outside was 105 deg. Winds were from the SE. Wooded areas where airflow was limited were sauna-like. A nice breeze in the open areas kept things comfortable. Greens: Smooth, minimal ball/spike marks. The ball rolled true, but slow. Bunkers: Poor bunkers, sand was hard and compacted. Local players rarely used the provided rake. Fairways: Zoysia was in good shape given the high temps and lack of rain in the area. Rough: Burnt and Crispy. No signs of watering. Tee Boxes: Zoysia tee boxes were in good shape. We played the black tees. Pace of Play: For the most part very good. We played 18 holes in three hours, mainly because we accidentally hit into and played thru a foursome of blue-shirted dudes wandering around looking for golf clubs. A threesome of dudes playing pink golf balls also allowed us to play thru. Most Memorable hole: Gotta go with 18, a daunting par 5. Second shot is uphill towards the club house. Someone decided to paint "WOODLANDS" on the retaining wall behind the green. Great idea, I aimed at the W, and landed a 4iron 10ft from the hole, before rolling in an eagle. Cost: Paid $27 for 18 with cart. Cart: The cart was gas, poor acceleration, average handling. Overall: 3/5, would recommend if you live in Alton and want a local course to practice at.

Nice course, at least nice enough to keep you from getting bored, or from getting a lot of birdies. The staff is as friendly as my hemorrhoid and thats after going out of the way to be very reasonable with them. It took me 15 minutes to pay green fees all the time the guy was chit chatting on his personal phone. Then spent another 15 minutes for the same guy to get me hot-dog and soda. Thats not the part that irritates me, it the fact the whole time he has this bitchy-man attitude. I guess I should mention the golf-cart died towards the end of the round and they acted like it was our fault...well it sure ended being our problem walking back to the car up this silly steep hill. If you like steep hills you will love this place. Bring lots of balls though.

I played this course for the first time this fall and subsequently went back a few times on vacation this Winter season and was really happy with the whole experience every time!! The track has a fun layout with some challenges but nothing "gimmicky". The pro "Scott " was personable and honest about Winter golf and excited about the improvements and vision he has laid out for the course...price is great, 19th Hole staff was professional and outgoing..greens rolled true and nice carved holes so overall very highly recommended. When you go play just make sure to ask the Pro, who lays up from 210 yrds on a par 5??...lol

Melissa is wonderful to work with! I am planning my upcoming wedding and Melissa has gone out of her way to be helpful. This is all new to me and I have had a lot of questions and she is always kind and answers anything I ask. She has great insight and I appreciate her opinion. I look forward to my 2017 wedding in front of the beautiful barn on their property and our reception in the banquet hall overlooking the golf course. Prices are reasonable as well, which is always a plus!

If your looking for a fun challenging course the woodlands is one of the best courses in its area. On top of that the staff are one of the friendliest that ive encountered. The General Manager, who also happens to be the course pro Scott Schaefer,. even gave me a tip on how to fix my swing. Ill definitely be back to play golf there and i recommend anyone looking to golf in the STL metro area to do the same!

Very nice course with reasonable pricing. Play here often and the staff is very nice and the cart girls always keep us well hydrated! The PGA pro at the Woodlands also gave me lessons a while back and helped greatly. Always have a great experience when I and the friends play here!

I recently participated in a tournament at the Woodlands. The course was in excellent shape, the staff seemed cheerful/helpful, and tournament results were quickly calculated and presented by a PGA Professional. I plan to come back soon for another round.

Great course in good shape. Not sure what prices are, I purchased 1 round for 2 people and a cart for only $35. Would definitely recommend to other golfers.
