Have visited other parks around the world and in my particular opinion the reason why i graded this one with a medium rate is only based in what i did see and do ( just did the hole circuit on foot, saw no exhibits and didnt see the butterflies ). Most species i saw ( birds and cougar ) were caged and alone ( only 1 of each ) and with very litle space to spend the hole life inside off. Judjing from the space the park has, cant understand why the wire and boundries arent much larger specially when it comes to birds that are supposed to fly freely or Cougars that are animals that jump very very high and ment to run high speed, and most of all why they are alone! That shouldnt be right not even if they are supposedly rescued animals. The Crocodiles were ok. The foxe(s) and Bobcat (s) didnt even show up . The 2 wolves were sleeping on the opposite side of were we could try to see them and didnt wake up. The Bisonts were 2 and having in consideration they had to be raised in zoos to avoid extinsion , could be ok to have them there, although more space wouldnt hurt since they should be able to run while in the wild. What i really really loved and made my day was the Green Pond with the Balcony. It is just beautiful! If one stays there silently lots of species start to appear and you can even take food out of a coin machin to give to the turtles and the fish. The Highlight of the pond occoured when a Crocodile came swimming right up to us and stood there for several minutes just watching us ! After some minutes another couple came and he just disappeared. It was in my opinion the magical spot of the park.

This is quite possibly the best $5 you can spend anywhere.... not just near Savannah. I thought we were going to drive into your typical south east tacky road show with advertisement s from Bobby LaBounty and Chick-fil-a. But I was blown away. The cougar exhibit was cool with rats in a huge ice cube, gators on the loose because they could be anywhere and all the elevated pathways that take you through the swamp. I am not exaggerating when I say this was the highlight of my Savannah trip. I loved listening to my wife stream in terror and run from a loose raccoon. In my book, this place is a must see and its worth 10 x what you pay for it. Make sure to visit the main center where there are tons of cool snakes and turtles and gift store.

My Husband & I have been coming to Oatland for many many years. The facilities are wonderful and are constantly being improved. But, the MOST IMPORTANT thing we have seen is the 100% dedication to all the animals and CHILDREN! They constantly strive to involve and educate children (first) and Parents in the outdoors and the outdoor living creatures. Truly and wonderful place. Several years ago our grandaughter went to "Bug" camp and learned so very much and had a wonderful time that she still talks about it today. A highlight to visit in Savannah. Since moving here, Ive been repeatedly told that the Low Country does not have a zoo. I believed them. Well, this is a true fact, Savannah does not have a formal zoo, it does have the Oatland Island Wildlife Center which has many learning-focused animal exhibits. Sure, if youve been to a zoo and are expecting a zoo experience, youll be downright disappointed, but if you are looking for a family-friendly, learning experience with nature and animals you will greatly enjoy yourself. Recommend you take your time and bring some quarters to feed the giant catfish!

Cheap and not fun for kids at all. First we were not allowed to go inside the welcome center, doors were locked although there was another family inside. The lady at the welcome center opened the door when we decided to leave and tell us to go all the way around the building so we can meet at the other side.... Didnt understand why. The place has no interesting anything. The alligators swamp was dry, no alligator anywhere. No one to ask any questions if needed. We decided to leave, didnt even bother to see all the place.

Just a great outdoor zoo!! Kid friendly (if youre into that sort of thing) and well designed. Wolves, cougars, wildcats, turtles, gators, raptors (the birds, not the dinos. Sorry.) And a lot more. And its SUPER affordable. Fun gift shop and indoor activities and exhibits. They have an apiary and a little working farm too!! Whenever were on Tybee my wife and I go. Its very close. From the far end of Tybee it only takes 15-20 minutes by car to get there. Highly recommended!!

I always grade with value in mind also, not just on the appeal of the attraction. And I exaggerate not a bit when I tell you this is a SUPERB value. My teen boys loved it and the exhibits were educational and not exploitative in nature. In fact the facility is run by the Chatham Co. Public Schools system. There were bison, wolves even a couple of bald eagles. For $5 a head this was an exceptional value. My 16 y.o. even got in for $3. Yes, you read that right.

Well worth the the price of admission. My family and I spent nearly 3 hours inside and we had a blast. Would not recommend wearing sandals or flipflops though. We could tell how much damage Hurricane Matthew caused and saw all of the repairs made so far. That is why some exhibits were closed but they are doing a terrific job. The signage could be a little better so that is why I gave a 4. Other than that, bring a cooler, rent a wagon and have a good time!!

Great spot to spend a few hours. TAKE BUG SPRAY ... We did not and everyone got bit up. The animals all seem well cared for and the staff was professional and seemed to enjoy what they do. We were disappointed that the cougar wasnt out, but the wolves and gators made up for it. 8 of us went and I believe it was only 25.00 for 2 adults and 6 kids. Worth the trip and a great price but please TAKE BUG SPRAY.

It was really nice. Our little ones loved looking at all the animals. The only thing I would suggest is either putting water fountains out x amount feet apart or making it clear that people can bring drinks. It was really hot when we went and were under the impression we couldnt bring outside drinks. And make sure you have bug spray. Really nice inexpensive getaway overall with an awesome staff.

Great place for families to learn about and view animals. Their walking path is a little ruff in some places but overall it is easy to get around to each exibit. The viewing areas for the animals allows you to get pretty close so its easy to observe. Overall a wonderful place and very affordable!!!!Hope to see more animals in the future!

A great place for families. They have all different types of animals here and beautiful walking trails. Its a little more than a mile to walk through the whole place with areas to sit and rest if you need to. It wasnt expensive at all and you can take as long as u like to walk through and look at everything. You walk at your own pace.
