I have played this course probably 200+ times since it opened. Obviously i really enjoy this course as it is fun and challenging. I highly recommend playing here. With that said this review will highlight the negatives of this course that i wish would be addressed. I am hoping that management reads these and at least thinks about what is said at least for a minute. All my criticisms but one are really minor and maybe picky. Remember none of my complaints outweigh playing there. So here goes. I notice that you have to watch your start time. Even if your on time for your start i notice they let out later start times if they are ready to go. also they will try and accommodate walkups etc . This can cause slowdowns and backups. Each hole should have a ball cleaner as it is every other hole currently. Hole descriptions should have a wood carved picture of the hole at the tee off boxes. Also every tee box should have a yardage marker in the back of the box. This is not the case now. There should be more fairway yardage markers as sometimes they are hard to come by. I think maybe because of this years heat a couple of the fairways are in bad shape at least compared to years past. I hope they are not skimping on upkeep! Probably the biggest issue and i have to say at times it has burnt me up is round time. It is not uncommon to have rounds take well over 5 hours to play. This is unacceptable. I realize sometimes this cannot be helped but long rounds are more the norm rather than the exception. There are many reasons for this. You always have rude golfers whom just refuse to move along. The course as it is designed without any adjacent fairways leads to many golfers hitting the ball in the woods on almost each hole and spending way to much time trying to find their 25 cent ball. There are no signs along the way that tell you how far along you should be in a certain time frame. Worse yet ranger sightings are sparse and while they are very nice they do not do much to speed play except to waive at you. The speed of play is the worst problem with this course and i wish it would be addressed. In conclusion i still highly recommend this course and it is a great place to play. If you are in a hurry to finish your round or if you have homicidal tendencies towards slow players you should definitely take your medication before playing.

10/31/2010 Having maintained a full membership at Oxford Greens, since it opened, I have witnessed a steady deterioration in the quality of the course and the manner in which it is operated. The fairways are filled with divots, many of which qualify as pot holes, the sand traps are inconsistently filled, the pace of play has gone from acceptably slow to intolerable and niether the owners nor the management (Billy Casper Golf) is doing a damn thing about it. The people operating the club have just one interest, taking your money! Now that the selling season is over for outings, management has turned their energy toward renewing memberships. Complaints from existing members are being patiently heard, and we are being told the issues are being addressed. This is exactly what have been told each year and yet conditions continue to slide. Why should I believe it now? Where / what is the plan? What breaks my heart is the fact that this course has the potential to be a true masterpiece able to compete on equal footing with the premier golf venues in the northeast. It was masterfully designed incorporating an exceptional layout into a naturally beautiful site. Unfortunately, management invests in marketing and promotion with disregard for any upkeep or improvements beyond the most basic maintenance. The result is a poorly maintained, over played course that is rapidly approaching Grade B status.

While there is a lot to like about Oxford Greens, it gets mixed reviews. First, the good: most holes have nice privacy due to the overall size of the property. The greens are large, fast, undulating, and difficult, but very playable. The overall grass conditions were very good. They have electric carts which are always nice to have (quiet, less fumes), The bad: Our foursome teed off at 12:30pm on a Sunday, and finished at 6:30pm!! The length of the round, alone, is a pretty strong negative. At each of the par 3s, there were 2 or 3 groups waiting to tee off. It could be that too many high handicappers are playing from rear tees. Whatever the case, it appears that management isnt enforcing anything (no rangers).Given the penal nature of the course, I would say black AND blue tees at Oxford are too difficult for anyone with a 10 handicap or higher. I have a 9.4 index, and we played the white tees. I brought a nasty hook to the property and paid big-time, shooting a 93. Back to the course, one test of a really great golf course is how memorable the course and routing are. Oxford doesnt give the golfer enough different looks in my opinion. There is a repetition of side hill, left to right holes, with lateral hazards on the left, that makes a lot of the course a blur. I would need to play a minimum of five rounds there to get from the 1st tee to the 18th green in my mind.

This place needs to figure out what it wants to be. Do you want to be a nice municipal course or a top tier public course? The greens and fairways are some of the best in the area. However, the bunkers look like they stole dirt from a softball field. The maintenance crew must not own a line trimmer, fly mower, edger, or full size sprayer because simple trimming and edging would add immense value to the course. Hole after hole seems unfinished and partially neglected. The driving range is a little annoying in that you have to pay for balls on weekend mornings. This leads to most people jamming up the first tee huddled around an odd putting green. This course has immense potentially to be a premier course. The superintendent needs to get his act together . If he does that watch this course climb up the ladder of public golf course rankings . Would play twilight again in a heartbeat . Would take a lot to pay $90 again for a five hour round weekend mornings.

Used to enjoy taking the ride down to Oxford from Hartford, never again. For $79, it should be an excellent experience and it wasnt at all. Tee boxes are absolutely shredded and the fairways are totally burnt out and are basically just dirt. They wouldnt let my buddy and I fly our American flag on our cart. Guy in clubhouse was rude and forgot to give us both tee off receipts. They let groups off too close together so you have groups up your a$$ all day. Guy in group behind us told us to hurry up. There was nowhere to go. Ranger kept bothering us. Dont go here. Save your money or go to Richter Park. Or in Hartford area go to Wintonbury.

Awesome course that is always well maintained. It has a challenging yet usually fair layout that tests every aspect of your game. Landing areas from the tee have trouble - OB, water, sand, TALL grass. Even if it looks like its wide open, you need to set up for your next shot as most greens have multiple tiers. You have to give yourself a shot to the correct section of the green. I uploaded a lot of pictures where you can see most of what I described,
