Brought a couple friends and kids up maybe a month and a half ago. Had such a great experience on the tour, panning and with the staff. Decided to go back up and was a little disappointed. After the initial experience with a couple young ladies doing tours and panning the gentleman there now was a little inexperienced. So the weekend adventure wasnt as fun as it should of been. The lady who taught the kids and us before was fantastic. We learned exactly what we needed to find and we left with some cool stuff from the stream. So half of us knew how to pan while the other half didnt because his teaching skills basically were non existent. He tried hard with the tour but i cant say it held up to the experience before unfortunately. Ill give it one more shot at a later time perhaps. Maybe theyll have good people working there again that know what there doing. Otherwise i wont return for further family and friend fun. The inside of the mine was awesome just sadly the staff we encountered was dull and not very intuitive except another new young lady who wasnt there before. But she was very helpful and friendly. If the gentleman didnt try explaining things incorrectly i probably wouldnt of had a problem but between the lady and gentlemen teaching her i learned more then i already knew. So i can tell when someomes blowing smoke. And not telling the truth. Yes we go for the experience but not to be misled with information. So i guess well see.

Have read most the reviews & Im still laughing inside. Most of these reviews are spot on! Why do they vary so much?...because this place is crazy! Mind trip! I think it leaves you with more questions leaving than going in. It still has us baffled how much of this is staged, fictional and fact. I Googled to verify many of the stories. It has a lot of authentic truth about the old mining operations that USED to happen, but do NOT happen here in over 30 years. I could find no actual documented information about the people or the Phoenix mine itself. This place is making good money off tours.

They are super mean i mean like one guy kept yelling shut up to the class and another was being super rude hes like BE QUIET , MOVE BACK. they guy saying shut up said this is the attitude adjustment pointing to it and it was a fake hanging guy and he said there is a zombie in there. While the kinder gardeners were crying because they were scared , he yelled SHUT UP!! And he said shut up to a teacher while she was trying to help someone. Extremely mean staff especially the manager cause he didnt care. They made a Teacher cry they were so mean while she was trying to defend us

Family and I visited about a year ago and it was a pleasant surprise. A very modest looking setup but nice people. They were even kind enough to take an out-of-state check! While we waited for the next tour the older man who owns the place told us about his time with the air force and the space program. He even had a book for sale but I didnt have the cash. I wish I had! The tour itself was fun, learning about the old machinery, hearing stories about the mine and even a some good jokes mixed in! It was a good time and my hard to please family enjoyed the whole thing.

We loved this stop. This is an old mine that was reopened a few years ago when gold prices went up. The tour into the old mine tunnels was fascinating, and there was lots of information about the old mining equipment and methods. Our tour guide was a retired mine worker. My son got a big kick out of panning for gold in the stream, even though we didnt find any. Well worth the couple of hours we spent there, and the tour was reasonably priced.

I havent been to any other gold mine, but this was a really fun experience. We had a very personable miner, Hank, as our tour guide. He was a smart and funny dude who looked the part. My kids had a great time, Hank was very good with the kids. The tour isnt very long and the mine isnt very deep, but it was a very good time. Call ahead to find out when the tours are. Also, it doesnt seem like much panning happens in the colder months.

I took my three girls (15,12 and 9)here thinking we would get a nice tour and some history. What we got was a creepy tour guide telling my girls that one of their breasts were going to be bigger than the other when they grow up. The hour and 1/2 tour could have taken 10 minutes and he asked for money (tips) no less than 4 times throughout the tour! I felt like I had to hand over more money just to get the hell out of there!

The mine is neat. The chipmunks are a nice touch. The panning is fun, though it is not rigged so dont come expecting to find anything. The owner was nice, but the tour guy was a complete jerk. Minus two stars. Others asked for their money back. I would have but I wanted to pan. The tour stories are completely fake, although the mining methodology seems real. I also knocked a star off for the biting flies.

Took a weekday, winters day tour. Dave the tour guide was awesome. Tons of history and geology, hands on experience. We brought 2 kids, 8 years and 12 years old and they both loved it and were completely engaged the whole time asking questions and fascinated with the answers and stories. I learned so much, Ill never look at rocks the same way again. Soooo cool. One of the highlights of our Colorado trip.

I love this place. My best friend and I were in vacation and decided to take the mine tour. I did it when I was 7 Im now 21. The guide was very passionate about everything mining related and answered any and all questions. The tour should take about thirty minutes but we talked so much it took about an hour. And its only ten bucks a person. I also found out these guys volunteer to do these. Awesome. ...

This was a great place to spend some time!! The tour tells the story of the Pheonix Gold Mine and its rich history in Clear Creek County. There is gold panning which is fun unless its too cold!! Bring a jacket for the mine tour it gets chilly in there! I thought the whole experience was a crazy fun scene! I e been a number of times and have stopped in on occasion to just say hello to Al

Seriously not just cool because you get to go in a real gold mine but, the ground squirrel/ chipmunks are super cute and the guide was a riot. And really for me the most awesomest part of our visit was Al! I really enjoyed hearing his story and the reason for writing his books, I will definitely be here again soon and cant wait to bring my boys!
