Not so sure why everyone raves about this restaurant, although the ambiance is nice at night with the view and the cozy interior, the maitre d was stoic and emotionless (no inviting welcome when you walk in the door), the cocktails were average although so was the price so a better rating on drinks than food. We ordered the wedge salad which had far too much blue cheese and the ahi special which included a melon ball sized wasabi ball on the plate and no soy sauce, not sure if this was garnish? But the most disappointing was the New York steak, which you could tell had been previously frozen because although it was charred nice on the outside, when I chewed it, it was flavorless and watery inside - for $44 that was the most expensive meal to date my dog finished when we got home. We decided that for that price we could have eaten the same meal anywhere in San Francisco and had a better experience. We were very miffed by the high prices and the low quality. If they were a diner and that meal cost $15, I would not have reviewed it. But you cant set yourself up to be great then disappoint. I was curious where the executive chef was last night as that steak should never have left the kitchen and although our waiter was extremely helpful, I wonder if he had ever eaten that steak or was he knowledgable about the pre-frozen meat. He was aware that the $35 ravioli dish did not include home made pasta - so we didnt order that on the premise that $35 is a lot of money for a pasta dish if you dont make it yourself. PLEASE LOWER YOUR PRICES! Or improve your food. Either way we will not eat there again and we were so looking forward to it. :(

Cottonwood is in a really nice location overlooking Truckee. When you enter, there is a lobby area with some dining tables (and live music on the night we visited) to the left and a long bar to the right. The main dining area is at the rear. We had phoned the week before to make a reservation (as we were visiting the area); the message on the answering machine said that there was no need to call back and that if you did not hear from them you could assume that your reservation was confirmed. Naturally when we arrived they had no record of our reservation and so we had to wait for a table to become available (an apology would have been nice, a free drink even better). The service was generally pretty good and always friendly. However, the food was basically poor. My wife started with the Butternut Squash Ravioli which although well cooked, was cold. I started with the polenta gratin which was undercooked. Things went really wrong with the main courses, both my wifes lamb and my steak were overcooked; I think actually what had happened with mine was that it had probably been cooked OK but had then sat under a warming light. Basically the food was mediocre at best and certainly not worth the steep prices they charge.

Absolutely one of the best experience. The food was excellent. The ambiance was fantastic. I have a family from Mainland China and the most difficult to please when it comes to Western Food. At Cottonwood, my wife was the first to exclaim that the food was EXCELLENT! We shared 4 appetizers, 2 salads, and 2 main courses between five people and walked out satisfied and full.

Our party of five enjoyed the Caesar salad, the pork sous vide made with grits and corn and halibut with a delicious mango remoulade. Dessert was an incredible berry crisp with a generous portion of caramel vanilla ice cream. If youre lucky, youll get Rachel as your sever -- professional , knowledgeable, with a wicked sense of humor. Superb service, fabulous food.

Atmosphere is unique to the Truckee area. The food was perfect. Had the grass fed New York strip with honey glazed carrots, garlic mashed potatoes and a port wine reduction. I had to get the recipe for it, it was that good. The chef came out and shared it with us. What a treat. Very reasonable prices too. My first 5 star review.

This restaurant was horrible. The service was crappy!! We never got refills on our drinks and the caesar salad was full of garlic! The man who works in the bar with the blondish brown hair and big eyes was extremely rude and walked right by us without adking how we were doing! Dont go here!! Disgusting cheap overpriced food.

The view is excellent and the stuff was very accommodating timely and friendly. I was way more impressed by the cocktail the appetizer and soup du hour, than the actual entree. It lacked a certain flavor and nothing really stood out like the rest of my meal did. But that was the only draw back. I will go back.

Friendly and attentive staff really add to the well prepared foods. I was surprised they were known for their Caesar salad. Until we had one. Nice! Left very full and feeling like it was money well spent. Making this a mandatory stop for next truckee visit.

Love the Ceaser salad, very cool ski town ambiance and histroy, The french margarita is good but dangerous if you have to drive. Great burger and happy hour when there is a winter storm warning. Although it doesnt snow in Truckee much

We didnt eat here, but thanks to a local recommendation, we came here to do some sledding down the hill on their back lot free-of-charge and we had the place all to ourselves. Shh, please keep this gem on the down low.

Upscale comfort food is a great way to describe this place. Sitting outside overlooking Truckee as the sun goes down makes for a great dining experience. The pork chop was excellent, staff was very professional.

Great menu. We had the scallops, Brussels sprouts, and the salmon fish special. All 6 of us loved our food. Very cute atmosphere and great view (during daylight). Busy on weekends so make a reservation.

A friend and I went here for dinner and it was fabulous. The waitress was very kind and helpful, the views are spectacular from the windows, and look over the town, their food was very tasty.

One entre was burned on bottom, the seafood stew was cold, and the tomato dish was poor quality tomato. It was just not a good dining experience when several guests complain. Larry

One of the best restaurants in Truckee. On par with Pianeta and Pacific Crest. Great ambiance. Great bar. Delicious food. And a spectacular outdoor patio in the Summer.

Most atmosphere in town. Killer views. Best Caesar salad anywhere. Cuisine worth traveling for. Cozy bar and good local music.
