Worth stopping in for the experience. Stopped in here here on a Thursday night, band was attempting to play, but there was a band fight and no one played. But the band fight was pretty entertaining to say the least. The inside of this place is old and historic. Cleanliness isnt top priority for the staff here. The bartender was cool she had a great personality and she did break up the band fight, Piper was her name. What really killed this place is the cook who brought in his dog to hangout at the bar. Dont mind dogs I do mind working staff members leaving their dogs unattended at the bar. Bottom line give this place a try but dont keep your hopes up that it will be amazing.

The Utah serves two purposes very well: 1) Its a perfect place to sit at the bar and grab some beers and burgers if youre in the area or heading down 4th St to the ballpark. 2) Its a great music venue on the weekends to just chill with good music and beer. In an age of $100+ concert tickets, its nice to have a place to pay a modest cover charge and get your fill of good loud music. The Utah is full of character from floor to ceiling...this place even screams character from across the street. Everything is very close quarters throughout, from the tiny stage to the cramped seating area (think being aboard a submarine). Wish there was a bit more room, but it is what it is.

This review is about the doorsman in particular, since he never let me in! I was excited to come and see my friends band play on Feb 23. Im european and had my european driving liciense, my national id card and several banking cards all under the same name. He still refused to let me in because he wanted to see my passport. Who goes for a night out with a passport?! In the 10 months Ive lived here its the first time this happened to me. He was also extremely rude! They ruined my saturday night and I really dont want to visit this place again, despite all the good reviews.

Its the type of place you go when you want to hang out but not go anywhere fancy, This is one of the Oldest Bars in the city, built in 1908 and it looks it, but thats part of its charm. Its a classic with all types of folks and musicians hanging out here. The bar food is descent, always good after a few drinks. The bartenders are super friendly. Only bummer is there is a charge when they have musicians. They also have "Open Mic Night" which makes for some great people watching.

A wide variety of unknown and indie bands descend on this dive bar for intimate and great shows. Check their calendar as they offer something for every type of musical tastes. They offer a wide variety of cocktails and great beer catalogue. Their food is also some of the best "bar" food in the city so come early to enjoy a brew and some grub before heading downstairs for a show. Please note this space is small, so dont expect a lot "moving around" room.

Since other reviewers have commented on the music and the bar, Id like to share my impression of the bar bites: very tasty. In particular, allow me to single out the sweet potato fries (dont forget to dip in the mustard sauce) and the cheese sticks, done just right. If you want to spare your ears, you can hear the downstairs rock band just fine from upstairs. You probably know this already: the bartender lady is very nice.

Best wings in town. Great bartender. When trying to decide from the various selection of beers on draft, she let me try some to help make my decision. Then gave me other recommendations based on what I liked. Fabulous pulled pork sandwich, but you cannot go wrong with the wings. They are so good. You wont regret them. Also, the blue cheese sauce that comes with is nice and thick, not some wussy watered down concoction.

A very interesting place. The stage balcony fills up fast so get there early. Good acoustics and a great overall experience... come for the people watching if nothing else. But with three bands a nite, youll find something you like. Cheap drinks by SF standards. Be patient getting a cab after closing but they do come, eventually. Recommended to round out your SF experience.

I went to the Utah around noon on a Monday, so it was pretty dead. However, the bartender was super pleasant and struck up a conversation with me right away. One of the locals came in shortly after, and the next thing I knew, I had gone through a number of beers and spent a few hours talking to the local and the bartender. Reasonable prices and very nice people.

This is a great listening space for individuals or small groups of musicians. Not too big, but fun. Attached to a great dive bar, with quality drinks (nothing fancy, it is a dive bar) and decent food. Dont drive over here, there doesnt appear to be any place to park (and the drinks are strong). With all the gentrification of SOMA, glad this place is still here.

Great staff & location, fun hotel. Great Atmosphere. The fitness center was top notch and the staffs were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again. Restaurants are excellent. The staff was polite and helpful. Our hotel room was quaint, quiet and included all the expected amenities. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends!

I dont care what you say about this old school bar but it is the cats pajamas and the rumor is that crooners/ celebrities used to stop by Hotel Utah back in its heyday. Go by now for the awesome dive bar food, real ship mast that frames the upstairs, the pinball and the kickass bartenders.

Cool dive bar with decent selection and prices totally ruined by an incredibly obnoxious doorman. Was meeting friends there, and later found out several of them had already left due to poor treatment. I probably wont go back until I hear he isnt working there anymore.

Väldigt trevlig personal som hjälpte oss att boka om vårt rum på ett annat motel då det blivit en dubbelbokning

Awesome beer selection, with lots of local options. Bartenders are friendly, the kind to remember your name and drink of choice. Best little dive bar. And the food is amazing. Vegetarian friendly with great veggie burgers and hummus plate.

I went for a show a few weeks ago and it was my first visit to the Utah. It is a very small venue, but the upstairs balcony is great. You are right on top of the action and the bands are typically mingling with the crowd.

Love the live music. Fun and friendly atmosphere. Stiff drinks at a great price. Good food. Chili Fries are to die for. Wings are like wings top back home in Texas. Im from Houston. This isnt a bad place to hang.

This small, divey venue is a MUST visit if your fave band is playing. Grab a beer, order some food, and secure a spot in the balcony. Youll be so close to the band that you can almost touch them, literally.

Had a great time at the Hotel Utah. Went to see the band Gilly and was surprised how many people were comfortably inside. There was seating for just about everyone. Great crowd. Busy but not jammed-pack.

Double-decker music room with small stage is separate from the bar area. The sound engineering is tight and there is live music every day. Great house cocktails and a small but adequate beer selection.
