I would never recommend planning a wedding reception here. We attended one here earlier this month and they had the upstairs booked until midnight. The Stonehouse will just go right ahead and book a band right over your wedding reception downstairs. There is really no separation between upstairs and downstairs, just a large open stairway. It was a reggae band and they started to sound check and planned to start at 9pm. My husband had to personally go down and talk to the band to try and get them to hold off so that our friends could enjoy their special night and do some slow dances without reggae blasting in the background. The band ended up being pretty nice about it and at least held off for a little while, but we had to work it out ourselves and the owner did not care at all. People who were there for the reggae band kept wandering up into the reception and it was up to the guests to keep telling them to stay downstairs. For the outrageous price that was paid to hold the reception there, they should have never booked a band over it. From what I have heard, this is common practice at the Stonehouse. It caused the bride and groom a lot of stress, this was their special day and it was almost ruined by the inconsideration of the owners of the Stonehouse. I would never recommend booking your wedding reception here!

Vegetarian offering for wedding was a very good risotto with vegetables. The green salad was overly spiced with salt and pepper, but very little oil or vinegar. It was quite noisy in the facility, but that is to be expected with 120+ people for wedding. Not enough chairs set out for wedding guests, with many having to stand throughout the ceremony. Cigarette and cigar smoking allowed right outside doors, which made it very difficult to endure the heat inside the building (A/C did not appear to be working after 8pm) NOT ADA compliant. No elevator for walker or wheelchair patrons to access dining room upstairs. Had to carefully work way up stairway, holding railings widely spaced on both sides of steep stairway. Excuse was given that it is an historical building, but we are aware of countless "historical" buildings which have been upgraded to ADA compliance. Enjoyed visiting Nevada City, but will not frequent The Stone House again.

We visited relatives in Grass Valley and they took us to the Stonehouse on a Thursday night. Wow! Its a large old stone building thats been restored. We sat outside on a gorgeous stone patio surrounded by huge old trees. Umbrellas, fresh flowers in pots, music--and, the entrance to an authentic cave. Then the food came and it was sensational. I had a smoky spinach salad unlike anything Ive tasted before, and really good crab cakes. My husband had a bistro steak stuffed with cambazola cheese. I wish Id ordered it, so did my husband. There were five of us and all the food was really good. Plus great service. On our way out we heard music from the bar and stopped in for a drink. To our surprise we found about 20 musicians playing Celtic music. It was one of the best evenings out weve had in a long time.

I am getting married at the Stonehouse in July, and I cannot say enough good things about the experiences I have had working with them. Their per guest prices are GREAT for weddings, and last week we had our tasting and it was superb. I think that wedding food is traditionally pretty bland, but our food was absolutely fantastic. My fiance and I were blown away and cant wait for the big day, and to see how much our guests enjoy! The decor on the inside is charming, the bar is absolutely beautiful, and the outside stairs are perfect for a bride to walk down before she says her vows. If you are having a small wedding (we are inviting 60 and expecting 50) this is the place to do it. We were truly lucky to find this place and I cant wait to see it all decorated in July!

We had an amazing dinner and great friendly service even though its still the "soft opening". The salad was 5 star, the entry (Duck) was 5 star and the dessert was 5 star! Cant wait to go back! Great selection of wine too, plus a full bar!
