My tennis (level 6) boys and I, not a tennis player, stayed for two nights in a villa during the start of BNP Paribas Open. Nice setting but windy. Dust storms are common there. One day was lost because of the storm. Next day they cleaned up but not enough to make you enjoy multiple swimming pools. Tennis court are in very good condition and nice to play if you can get one. Need to book a court a few weeks ahead. We went to play at 5:45am as we usually do. My kids are top players. Sun was rising. Quite cool morning. We were along on 20 courts. But they kicked us out of the courts at 6:30am when tennis director came to work. We had to wait until 7:30 to go on court because tennis director said it was his rule. I think they just can’t charge people before shop opens at 7:30. So we paid $30.00 to play at 7:30-8:30. It is hot at 7:30 there during the winter and wind gets strong so your lips get dry and skin cracks on dry dusty wind if you do not was your face. But it’s ok. We had our own paid court for 1hr. Not really. At 8:00 Tom, tennis director, walked across our court during rally to talk to a friend on another court. Minutes later he walked the same way to question us if we have paid for the court. At 8:15 another a man from an adjacent court started to question us how much longer we were going to play. He was a local retiree and he normally pays for 1 hrs but starts earlier and we were on his way to save on court cost. Because he was standing on our court and waiting we left before our time ended. Fitness room is well equipped. But they bumped us out of the fitness room two times – no children under 16 allowed. Fitness room is normally empty and we did just fine there, Then Novak Djokovic jointed us. When Novak came, suddenly everybody wanted to do fitness and director tom asked us to leave because of the age restriction. But director Tom allowed an old man on a wheelchair to remain in the room. I do not know what the wheelchair man was doing there but it was not fitness. O.k. Next day we went there and did not disturb anybody because nobody was there as usual. Then, suddenly fitness room filled up with to the top. We were probably too busy and did not notice Maria Sharapova was doing balancing. We noticed a girl, but I am family buy, and I do not look at girls – strangers. My boys are not interested in girls yet. We have met her before in Newport Beach and she asked us in Russian to share the bar that we used. We recognized the girl. But the manager probably misunderstood the situation and asked us to exit based on our age restriction. So we went out to take a walk on a very nice walkway between villas. A dog barked behind villa 1646 and my son said it was the dog of Novak. That dog played with my boy before and must remembered him so noticed my boys talking outside. I did not believe him. But the front door opened and Novak showed his head outside. Apparently, he has been waiting for a golf cart to go for a demo match on the center court in the club. But the gold cart was late. Novak did not like that good tennis kids are not allowed to practice tennis in the “Best Tennis Club”. When the golf cart eventually arrived Novak went to play golf instead of going back to the tennis club. I have gotten my revenge. Djokovic did not show up while many club’s people have been waiting for about 2hrs. So they brought Andy Rodick and Mardy Fish to compensate. I have to note that tennis director Tom talked to me at the end and even allowed to play at 7am in violation of his rule 7:30am but it was too late. We were going to the Stadium where Jack Sock lost to Giraldo Santiago in first round. And, my 10-years old boy won tennis serve contest delivering 91.2mph serve. I can’t tell everything was not good. We had a very good time at La Quinta. But all the good time was affiliated with somebody else, not with management of La Quinta tennis club. My kids also noticed that we have seen only one black person there. But it was Monfils, a tennis player from France.

Desert Nightmare We stayed at the La Quinta Resort over Labor Day weekend 2011. It was an experience my wife and I will never forget and not in a good way. We checked in Saturday evening and got to our room around 8PM. We ordered some room service and my wife took a bath. At around 10PM we heard a cats meow coming from inside one on the interior walls of the room. We called maintenance and someone arrived a short time later. The hotel worker opened up the wall in two different places and we discovered a small kitten. We tried to retrieve the kitten but he was very frightened and somehow climbed up the wall and into the attic space of the room. The worker went into the attic to once again try to retrieve the cat. An hour later the drywall mess was clean up but the cat had not been recovered and was no ware to be seen in the attic. Around midnight the cats meow returned but this time in a different wall. We called the front desk and they said maintenance was no longer on the property but they would send someone from security to our room. After several calls to security, the front desk and even the hotel manager who was at home no one ever came to our room. My wife was freaked out about the cat inside of the wall. At one point during a phone conversation with security they admitted THEY KNEW THERE WAS A CAT IN THE WALLS OF OUR ROOM earlier in the day. At 3AM no one from the hotel had come to our room and my wife and we decided to make the two hour drive home back to Orange County. The response from the hotel was less than acceptable. They end up not charging us for the room service and hotel room for the night. THAT WAS IT. I’m 45 and have travel all my life on business and have stayed a couple of thousand nights in hotel rooms all over the world including 45 nights in Hilton hotels just this year. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel property. This hotel is managed by Hilton BTW. The Hilton Corporation should fire all of the top management at this hotel. They clearly are not competent to run a hotel. I’d encourage anyone not to stay at this hotel especially if you’re a cat lover. Try the Hyatt down the street a couple of miles.

Hotel has gone from a genuine five star hotel to close to 0. My family has gone to this historical resort for 30 years. We actually own several of the pretty casitas. In the beginning when we first came staff was great, restaurants superb, however with the takeover by the government of Singapore everything has gone down a lot. Even Hiltons management company, Waldorf Astoria has left. The once great restaurants are suffering except Morgans because much of the waiters have been terminated and service is poor. Except for the lobby, restaurants and shopping area flowers that used to surround the pretty casitas have disappeared, cactus has replaced them to the horror of parents who have young children. The once fabulous Spa serving fruit while you wait is replaced only with cold tea. I noticed on my last visit to the spa in the mens section the combs that were of first quality have been replaced with dime store throw aways. However the worst thing the hotel has done is the renovation of the rooms. The charming old Spanish furnishings have been replaced with modern furnishings. contrary to the original feeling of beautiful Spanish influence. Flowers that once adorned the casitas are all gone; asking one of the managers why he whispered to keep maintenance down! My daughter came into our room on our last visit with a cut on her foot. When I asked her why she responded "it happened when I climbed out of the pool." When I went out and look at the coping and cement I realized the entire pool area is disintegrating causing sharp edges everywhere. I looked at the other pools in the area to find the same situation. Shame on you Government of Singapore.
