The course is very hilly, with a lot of really fun shots. Its well designed in that you have very few uphill shots and a lot of downhill ones. Its in acceptable shape for the price and a nice challenge even though its only 5900 yards and mostly wide open. Everybody in the clubhouse was pleasant and attentive. However! We teed off on a Saturday at 1030 am and finished at 350 pm. We asked if that sort of pace of play was normal and apparently it is, which is pretty inexplicable considering the only real trouble is on holes 5-7 which took about 80 minutes to play. We would have left after 9 holes, but we were curious to see what the back nine was like. The experience is sort of like being at an amusement park. You spend all day waiting in line, but the rides are fun. The fairways do not crisscross each other, but the routes from green to tee cross by the same water cooler station 4 times. The staff could potentially get out there and try to move people along, but when it routinely takes 5 1/2 to 6 hours to play, what can the staff realistically do other than make people leave? No amount of pushing people along will save 90 minutes of playing time. While we were waiting to hit our second shots on #10 (a fun downhill shot to a small green) one of the grounds crew joked with us that were lucky were not in a tournament. The one that took place the day before we were there took seven hours. Anyway, if you can find a time when the course is not packed, its definitely worth the effort. The staff does seem to be aware that the pace of play is brutal, but theres no real solution to it.

Westminster National (formerly known as Bear Creek Golf Course) has come a long way over the last several years. The condition of the course has improved immensely, and the price is still very reasonable. The greens are always smooth and roll at a good pace, and the manager and superintendent really care a lot about making the course as good as it can be. Westminster Natl has a very unique layout with great character. Expect extreme elevation changes, lots of beautiful scenery, and a good mix of challenging and easier holes. The yardage is short, but what the course lacks in distance it makes up for in difficult greens and some tight holes. If you can only play one golf course in the Carroll County/Southern PA/Northern Baltimore area, make it this one.

I really enjoyed playing this golf course. It was challenging yet simple enough for anyone to play. This golf course would have scored higher if the maintenance on the golf cart paths and bridges would improve. Other wise great course and not to pricey.

Very good golf course for the money. The course is generally kept in very good condition and the different holes offer a range of challenges. Overall an excellent value.

Decent course but average to below average level of difficulty. Most shoot well below par with ease in my groups. And I shoot 10 over (normally a 20 handicap)

A pretty short but fair course. Good pricing. Many fairways slope to make second shots a bit challenging. All in all, a good way to spend 4 hours :)

Course is fun and challenging, rates are reasonable. Great course for middle of the road players

The course is a little confusing to play because the fairways crisscross at multiple points.
