My husband and I attended the Highly Suspect concert on May 10, 2017. We arrived to Satellite early (before doors opened, around 6:00pm) and were enjoying ourselves playing with their retro video games. We lined up at 6:30 and, when doors opened at 7:00, we had a great spot on the 2nd "row" (the concert was GA). We listened to the opening DJ and band, and when Highly Suspect came on, we were enjoying the music, singing and dancing along. Towards the end of the set, an older woman (who looked like she was high on something) barged in front of my husband. He stood in his same place, arms crossed, and did not move as she continued to run into him. She told him that "it was a concert" and he needed to "lighten up." He explained that he was just standing in his same spot, but then she grabbed his arm. I stepped between the two of them, and she cussed at me, telling me that she had a man who was taller than me. I told her that I didnt care, but she didnt need to be putting her hands on my husband. The set continued, and my husband continued to stand in his place. We were waiting to hear "My Name is Human" before we left, because the concert had lost all its luster. The other concert goer was flailing around, and her hair got in my husbands face, so he coughed to get it out of his mouth. She looked back at him and put her hands on him again. I stepped between the two of them, and she grabbed my neck and pulled my hair. Knowing that I did not want to be accused of something, I made sure not to touch her back, and instead yelled for security, which was nowhere to be found. She let go of my hair and neck, and my husband and I left. She followed us out, but I went to the bar so that we had visibility, and she went back in the crowd. I have visible scratches because of this altercation. Saturn needs to work on their security during larger scale concerts, to include patting down people/searching bags, which was not done. I was afraid for my safety due to this. We have attended more concerts that I can count across Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, and I have never had an altercation such as this. I highly recommend that Saturn increase security so that altercations such as these do not happen to anyone else who is trying to enjoy a concert.

Super cool! I love this place. The vibe, the decor, the people. We strolled in one Sunday, while the ol lady worked on homework and grabbed a coffee, I grabbed a vodka redbull and commenced kicking Mario Smash Bros butt on the Game Cube (Kirby all the way). It was a perfect way to start my Sunday Funday even though I was essentially entertaining myself. Most of the folks in there were being productive, studying or playing some challenging looking board games. I couldnt tell, but in the ballroom looking area (I didnt go in) it looked like they had some type of brunch or something going on. I havent been to an event yet, but its goo to know that they host concerts and what not. Weve returned to Saturn in the evening where they turn the lights down a bit. Its got a cool ambiance, especially with the pin ball machines going off. All of the video game stations were being utilized and groups were sitting around tables indulging in derogatory board/card games. Im sure Cards Against Humanity is a must here. We stopped back in after the Avondale Brewing Burger Fest this past Saturday and had a friend join us who had never been. She was thrilled. We played the old school games along the back wall and then a board game before getting hungry and trekking down the Hotbox at Parkside. This place has a special place in my heart. To infinity and beyond.

Saturn & Satellite are the saviors of this part of town! In the morning, you can stop by Satellite and get a cup of delicious Stumptown coffee and a pastry or quiche. Hang out & get some work done in their free wifi while enjoying the quality music selection they are known to play. If youre not working, you can play board games or video games or just enjoy conversation on their side patio. Hang out through lunch & order a sandwich too. Most of all, dont forget to hop in the vintage photo booth! In the evening, come on back to Saturn and enjoy a show! They have a wide variety of bands performing almost nightly in this stellar venue. The stage & sound are exceptional. The drink menu is curated by one of Birminghams finest bartenders/mixologist & I promise it does not disappoint! So get on over there & take advantage of this unique treasure in Avondale.

Hands down the most unique venue Ive been to. One side of the building is The Saturn which has a stage for performances. It is a spacious area. Theres plenty of room to move around and there are a few seats and tables as well. Theres also an L-shaped bar located in the back. The other side of the building is The Satellite, which is a coffee bar. Not only can you drink and have coffee, but you can keep yourself entertained with several different games. They have hundreds of board games, around ten different video game consoles (mostly retro), four pinball machines, and even a photo booth. They centered their theme around space. Giving detail to even their ventilation, which resembles a space shuttle. I made a two hour trip to go there, and I would definitely do it again.

I am a big fan of small venues. Its easy to be a small venue if you get the basics right; an intimate setting, accessible bar, and good sound. The difficult part is finding a specific personality and experience for your patrons to take part in whenever they enjoy a show or drink. Saturn has accomplished this. So much so, you could hang out here and enjoy vintage video/board games and friends when there is no show. My only critique is the concert area seems slightly less welcoming than the rest of the facility, but once the house lights go down and the first notes ring, that becomes a distant memory.

I am not much for coffee, but sometimes I need a caffeine boost. Ive gone into Satellite to do some computer work and their staff is always nice about answering my dumb coffee questions (like, "um, what has the most caffeine, but can be made to taste the least like coffee?") and go out of their way to find me something that I will enjoy. PLUS - the wifi is good and doesnt go slow or drop all the time, so it truly is an excellent place to hang out for hours while getting lost in computer work. And later, when you realize the cocktail hour has snuck up on you, their adult slushies will make your day.

As a bar, its great. As a music venue it should be even better. Unfortunately whoever is in charge of running the sound board doesnt understand that when people are plugging their ears the music is probably too loud. Im writing this review from a table in the back with earplugs in, having paid to see a good band perform through muffled foam. Not a good first impression. Edit: while I still find the environment a little too loud most of the time I have come to really love this venue. I would still recommend plugs, but they are pulling in some incredible artists and hosting unique events.
