Honestly, this place was atrocious. I went in with a group of 4 friends, one of whom knew a promoter. The bouncers let us pass, but only gave 2 of us tickets, leaving the rest, all girls, to pay $30 cover charges. I suspect they differentiated between us based on our heights (...which is extremely ridiculous considering the heights of most of the VIPs!). We asked 3 bouncers about this differentiation, but none of them would give us an honest answer. My friends egos were bruised, but I pointed out the unpleasing faces of the promoters and bouncers and they quickly recovered. The judges of our attire and appearance were the least qualified to judge! After making it in, we got to the exclusive promoter tables easily enough and began to enjoy ourselves. The drinks, however, left much to be desired...unless youre keen on cheap champagne, atrocious orange juice and vodka. Our promoter also kept shifting us to different locations as more people arrived and as VIPs came and went. One would think a spot near the DJs would be exclusive, but apparently promoters simply need to give the appearance of being commanding and shifting people around to maintain their positions. Towards the end of the night, a manager told our promoter that one girl wasnt wearing heels that were high enough and needed to leave. Apparently, it was unacceptable for a girl in low heels to stand near a male model. This is in spite of the fact that the girl in question was being hit on by other blokes and none of the models seemed to care or notice her height! The bouncers were rude, the promoters were arbitrary in their decisions, and the music/ atmosphere itself was banal. Never again!

This is the very first time in my life that I am writing a bad review for anything. This place has done everything possible to ruin my best friends bacchelorette party and that must be remarked on. After the Kimberly Hotel (which was a divine rooftop bar), our group of 9 girls (dressed to the nines) went to Lavo for some dancing, etc. This place let half of the girls in and the rest were told, "we cannot accomodate you" after the first half of the group paid (not knowing that the security had blatantly changed their minds as were told that this was a party of 9 giirls). When I stepped outside to find out where my friends are, I asked to speak to the manager but was ignored. I requested to get my money back and belongings that were checked in, but the person shined a regular flashlight to state that I had no stamp, which you can only see under LED ligt. You really get the point. The bride was close to tears when we finally left. We, of course, changed the venue, bought some bottles and a table at another place and had a good rest of the nigt. However, this place had left a terrible black mark on the evening and I have NEVER been through such a horrible experience in a lounge/nigtclub be it in NYC, Paris, London, Vegas or any of the other posh places. If you go there, be forewarned. This place is horrible and a dark mark on the brand name of Tao!

There were minor issues, but I still loved it. I went on a double date here on a Wednesday night. It was PACKED. We had a reservation at 930PM for 4 people and waited about 25 minutes to be seated. While we were waiting we got drinks at the bar but were basically standing over people who were dining because there was not enough room for everyone at the bar. I felt bad for the diners that we were forced to hover over. That being said, the rest of the experience was really great. We sat at a round booth table in the dining area and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The music and vibe was great, good crowd...dining room was noisy but Im young and enjoy a lively dinner. We got about four appetizers and each got a entree with some drinks, didnt end up seeing the damage we did on the bill but Im sure it was pricey. The portions were big and I ended up having leftovers for about a week to take home with me. The food was super tastey. I will be going back soon!

The restaurant is ok, food is good, club is a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and read the other reviews that explain the process of getting into the club after dinner. The bouncers are self-appointed guardians of the upper-class. Yes, its NYC and this is a so-called "hot spot" but that doesnt give bouncers the right to coerce or to discriminate. If you call the restaurant ahead of time and ask how you can get into the club after dinner, they will tell you all you have to do is exit the restaurant and go next door. What they dont tell you is that you have to stand in line for a while (which is ok since its NYC and its expected) and then get to the front of the line only to have the bouncers coerce you into buying bottle service or turn you away. We had a group of 13 people (9 girls, 4 guys) and we were rudely told to either get the service or "peace out". All I have to say is "false advertisement", "discrimination", "coercion" and "litigation".

Lavo was not as fabulous as I had hoped. It had such promise as a family style, Italian/Mediterranean/Steakhouse with a large menu. Unfortunately, the food just didnt live up to its potential. They had way too much pepper to everything, even the caesar salad. We got a few pizzas to share- the margherita was fine, the spinach and artichoke you should pass on. Skip all the veggies sides as well and just go for the good stuff- the truffle parm fries. Most of the entrees seemed plain, bland, and like I could make it better on my own. The one saving grace was the Rigatoni Melenzana, although the marinara sauce was too spicy as well. Did like our nice round table which made it easy to chat with our whole large party, but I doubt I would go back. It was expensive and the food wasnt even worth half the price. Our waiter forgot a few dishes, brought a few wrong ones, and was never able to be found when we needed him- and it wasnt even busy.

I was here for my birthday with a group of about 15 and I can honestly say it was probably the best time I have had at an NYC club since I started going out. It was expensive, but worth it. We made sure to get to Lavo at around 11:30PM and left around 4:00AM and that was more than enough time to have one of the best nights of my life. The bottle service was on point and extremely attentive, although intimate there was more than enough room for everyone to have a comfortable and enjoyable time. Best of all even the crowd surrounding the table we had reserved respected our space. If you are going to go anywhere and drop some cash I would suggest Lavo as the place to do it. In the end its all about the memories we make and the friends we celebrate with. Tip: save this for a special night, such as your birthday, then you can at least say: "I had to go all out, it was my birthday" - just in case anyone call you #bougie.

Tried the NY location and can say we prefer the Vegas one much more. We had made plans to go there several times before so this was something I was looking forward to trying. Food was OK, nothing stands out for its yumminess (but I ordered off the restaurant week menu and saw much more appetizing dishes from their regular menu on other tables). I ordered a strip steak medium rare and got medium well. Didnt bother complaining to the unhelpful and way to bleached blonde waiter with the courtesy and personality of a corrections officer. The decor was nothing like the Vegas location and left a lot to be desired, I think they could have done way better.
