Let me first start off by saying the State Park off Dumphries road is a terrific starting off point for thoroughly checking out the forest. The RV sites will accommodate full hook ups up to 30 amps. Of course water and sewer are available on a lot of spots but not all mind you. If you are a die hard tent camper you may want to actually stay at the tent sites and not the RV park. Just my opinion. I hike, hard core mountain bike and run so this park had it all for each of these activities. I did all of these almost every day and it never got boring. There are great trails, bush wacking if you are very well versed in that and you have an excellent sense of direction. I would strongly recommend you do a lot of exploring and familiarize yourself with the area before you go off and do that sort of thing. The hiking trails offer easy and hard routes so take your pick. Talk to the rangers if your are not a hard core adventurer like me. I spent about a week and hit almost all the trails and roads...I said almost. I also used this location as a base camp for visiting DC. After exploring I showered, ate and took the metro from Franconia/Springfield (about a 20 minute drive from the RV park) into DC. It is so much easier than trying to drive in and park somewhere. We saw so much in DC. If you are in good shape you can walk everywhere no problem. If you are not, plan to see areas close to one another and then return another day in another area and explore that. There is a ton of walking so be prepared. Great photo ops, great adventures and great fun. Most every thing is free admission and you can even bring in your backpack. This helps to carry water and snacks for the day. I hope this review helps someone. Ive included a few photos of DC. Im sorry I dont have any of the forest. I never took my camera when adventuring.

Officer Bueg gave me a $100 ticket for "parking in an improper space" All I did was pull over on a gravel road (right next to my camp site) to load a cooler really quickly. There were absolutely zero "no parking" signs. None. There was nothing to indicate I could not park there. Also, the day prior I went to the visitors center and purchased a several day parking pass. So youd think I can park, especially where there are no signs to say otherwise. This wasnt remotely a main road. It was inside a loop, on the little gravel road. Our entire cub scout pack was there to camp, and this guy targeted me for simply pulling up to load my cooler. The only people in the entire loop that the camp site was in, were the people from our cub scout pack. He had zero reason to do it, and again, there wasnt a single no parking sign, and I have video and pictures to prove it. Beware this place, specifically the park rangers. Theyre out to get you, and you can apparently receive a ticket whether theres signs or not. Its not like I was on a main. Id find another local park where theyre decent.

At our arrival we found .. In just one cabin.. 2 mice nest, spiders out the wazoo, and its just plain dirty! The cabins are not sealed, 60% of the screens are broken.. There have been several other types of spiders found, including one the size of my palm. No joke. If you are desperate and have to stay bring a bug net for your bed and mattress protectors for the mattresses. Its dirty! And also... There are no fans!!! Bring at least three box fans per cabin, so that way you have one per room. The website is misleading!!! I wish a had a bug net. Perhaps.. You also want to bring bug bombs and raid spray to spray all around cabins to help with the bugs!!!

Wow! First off I was quite surprised by this park. I originally went there looking to get some shots of fallen trees but quickly ditched that effort for a good hike. The park is gorgeous. It will make short work of mind heavy things, in other words the day to day drama. Its transforming in ways but simplistic. It doesnt offer the views of rhe Rockies or the Grand Canyon though its the tranquility of rushing water just takes you away. Its the quietness of the trees that send you to another place. Im better for the trip and will be back again soon.

I love visiting here, its a little piece of quiet paradise close to NOVA/DC area. They have lots of paths to bike or hike as you please, and a scenic drive area as well. It seems lots of local families come to grill and hang out in the kids play area. All the park rangers (is this what theyre called?) that Ive met are nice. If youre looking to get away but dont want to go to Great Falls, which is probably busier, this is a great alternative.

I cant count the hours Ive spent in different parts of this park over the past 20 years. Ive dealt with many rangers and site hosts here; most of whom have been super awesome and will even tell you some history of the camp if you ask. Ive run into one or two that werent so friendly, but they are rare. The park has great event spaces and awesome hiking trails. Its a great and convenient place to get out into nature.

So beautiful! The South Valley Trail is a great hike or run. I ran it and must say it does have some challenging areas, uphill, downhill, roots and rocks, but great challenge! A must run! The trail is 9 miles but you dont have to run the whole time. Lots of Briggs and running water. I plan to adventure this whole park. The trail is located within Prince Williams National Park.

Prince William Forest Park is a National Treasure Hidden right down the road from DC. Terrific place to hike, ride bicycles, or run. The seven mile scenic loop is road bike friendly. Please stop in the rangers station and pay for a day pass. In addition to the ranger station Turkey Run camp ground has running water and restrooms.

Great place to go hiking. Havent gone camping here yet but theres a variety of short to long trails with lakes, streams, nice views, etc... Its very well maintained so youll feel confident your $7 parking fee is directly benefiting you! They accept cards at the visitor center so if you forget to bring cash dont worry about it!

This park offers so many reasons to love the NPS and this beautiful State. The large tracts of un disturbed forest, the many fire trails, mountain bike trails, biking paths, hiking paths, campgrounds, cabins, facilities, history . . It is an absolute gem! We visit several times a week to bike the park. Hope we run into you!

Went for a hike and to take some photos, had camped here years ago and LOVE this place. The only thing I could complain about is the price to car or tent camp, it is a little pricey. I would suggest stopping by visitors center and talking with rangers as well as get a map very helpful. All in all I absolutely LOVE this park.
