To be honest, I didnt even try the wines, so the 1 star is just for "hospitality", or rather the complete lack of it. While it seems weird that a business can get "too busy" and turn away customers (why in the world are you even in this business?), I can understand that - it is a good strategy to work less and put a very high margin on your wines (I mean, come on this is Virginia, not France or Italy). What was really unbelievable was the rudeness and lack of attention to potential customers at this winery. In addition, I am not sure what too busy means - on a beautiful October Sunday, about a third of the tables on the deck were full, and there were 6 people (including the two of us) trying to buy/taste wine. There were two ladies behind the bar, who did not even look at us or say hello when we came in and went to the bar. I had to finally catch a passing glance and say hi in the hope of getting a glass of wine. The reaction - " do you need some help?",without a smile or trace of friendliness. Come on, do you think I just hang out here, at the bar? Anyway, it turns out that you can only taste wine there - if you want to sit on the deck with a glass/bottle of their (btw, extremely overpriced) wines, you have to be a "case member". Well, lady, you could have at least explained what that means, not start right away explaining to us how to get to another winery. Turns out it was a good thing they turned us away - we found a beautiful winery just a couple of miles away - Fox Meadows. Check it out, it is really worth it. The wines are good, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the view is amazing.

Weve been going to Linden Vineyards since the early 90s. Jims wine is fantastic and definitely the best in Virginia and easily can rival many fine vineyards in the world. We really appreciate his attention to detail; he knows his and the other properties he manages so well. I still remember him telling me how one row is always tested separately as the soil is just slightly different there. Many of the folks complaints below are about the fact that he doesnt allow anyone walk and use his property as a park or cater to families. Jim specifically states on the website that he is about catering to wine enthusiasts and gives preference to those that have been enthusiastic supporters (via purchases). If you were a great customer, youd appreciate it. If you are going to be jaded because he wants to reward that clientele, then you probably wont get the enjoyment of enjoying the Linden experience. He is perhaps one of the few, if not he only, vineyard and winery in Virginia to need only word of mouth advertising. Its an enviable position. I could go on for hours about the quality wines and good Jim Law has done for the Virginia Wine Industry. My wife and I always look forward to the (now to too few) trips to Linden to enjoy a conversation with him and his staff; we remember when he was growing and bringing carrot soup to enjoy in the winters with everyone. And more importantly we know how well his best wines age. We still have some of his mid 90s wines waiting to mature.

Very disappointing experience! We had been planning a visit to this winery for a few weeks after missing it on our last vineyard outing. The location is amazing, too bad the people inside dont match. They had 5 wines on the tasting list and we didnt have the same person pour two of them. I want someone to enlighten me about their wines, make me enjoy it a little more through the knowledge of what went into it to make it what it is in my glass. They poured, they walked away, we waited. After the less than pleasing tasting we did decide to buy a bottle because we had after all planned our day around this place. Two glasses, a bottle opener and looking forward to taking in the view only to be told that the seating is reserved only for "Case Club Members". In order to stop by and enjoy a glass of wine at their facility, you must buy and agree to continue to buy a case of wine all at once each year. Not only could you not sit, their food was also reserved for their "Case Club Members" as well as the grounds! Unbelievable! So many other vineyards and beautiful people in The Valley to waste my time with their ,at best, average wines and unfriendly, unwelcoming staff.

Linden Vineyards has some of the best wine in the country. For anyone who visits they are treated to friendly, knowledgeable staff, beautiful views and spectacular wine. For someone who has never had to open their home up to total strangers and strike a balance between making a living and trying to maintain some sense of privacy, you would have no idea what its like. Jim and his family and staff have done a wonderful job at accomplishing this. While some areas may not be as open as they used to, it is only due to unwanted popularity. While I know that Linden Vineyards works very hard at producing amazing wines, I dont believe they are looking to have half of DC tromp around and trash the farm to enjoy it. Linden Vineyards is, after all, someone’s home. I am very grateful that they still share their farm with me and everyone else and I dont only get to experience the wine at some boutique wine shop. Thank you to Jim and his family and staff for producing a great wine and letting me into your home to enjoy it!

While most would agree that the wines at Linden are amongst the very best in Virginia, and the match of the best from Napa and Sonoma, there seems to be a difference of opinion over the staff and alleged "rules" at Linden. I visit Linden several times a year, and have been doing so for more than a decade. In every single visit the staff have been unfailingly polite, warm, and knowledgeable - in fact, many of the people who wait on you at the counter or in the cellar are growers and wine-makers at Linden. The only rules that I am aware of are "please drive slowly on our unpaved road, we live here," that no tour buses or large parties are allowed - thank heaven!!! - and that for certain events you must be a member of the "case club" to attend - buying at least a case a year, again, an extremely reasonable limitation that keeps those who would abuse a benefit from jamming the bar and overrunning the facilities. To anyone who has endured a Saturday afternoon in Napa on the main drag such rules are blessed relief!

Love this Vineyard. Visited twice in the past six months, and purchased a case each time. The wines are excellent, the views are beautiful, and it is great to relax on the porch with a glass of wine and a cheese platter. You must be a Case Club member to drink wine at the facility (other than the tastings) on the weekends, and this is a real benefit. You can actually enjoy the facility without the crowds, kids, dogs, and noise that one so often encounters at Northern Virginia wineries these days. The grapes are grown in the immediate area, and the wines are made here, not brought in from California or New York. The standard tastings are somewhat limited in terms of the number and types of wines offered, but I find that each wine is very good, and the cellar tastings open up even better offerings, although you begin to run into some fairly expensive wines. Would highly recommend that anyone serious about wine stop in for a tasting, and you will probably become a Case Club member.
