I checked in Saturday, around 2pm on "Mothers Day Weekend" after an 8 hour car ride. I suffer from DVT so I was completely exhausted to say the least. I reserved a premium suite to include a snack tray for my children so we didnt have to worry about the late night munchies. Well, to my surprise, I walked in the suite and there was no snack tray. After settling in and meeting up with family, I saw a gentleman with the cart delivering the snack trays. I told my daughter to be on the lookout because he will be stopping soon. Needless to say, he passed by. My daughter looked out the door to see what was taking so long and he had passed our room by. He told her the room wasnt on the list. She assured him it was and asked what she could do to prevent this mistake for the duration of our stay. He advised her he would let his manager know and she didnt have to worry. Sunday was eventful. We attended graduation at Hampton University. It was another long day. By the time we made it back to the hotel, I was completely worn out with a swollen leg. All I wanted to do was take a shower, take my meds and get in the bed, but I wasnt able to do that. I walked in my room, which wasnt serviced so I didnt have any clean towels. I waited forever and a day and saw a young lady who was headed my way. I patiently waited, but she never knocked. I looked out the door and there was no sign of her so I went walking the floor to the opposite side and asked the young lady on that side if she was coming down to my room. She asked the room number and after telling her, she asked if I needed it serviced? I said, "I do indeed and I need clean towels." She assured me she would come down after she was done. At 6:30 pm, she came , serviced the room but said she didnt have any clean wash clothes. Her manager was behind her cart and he said he would bring them back up. Well, that never happened. I took my meds because by this time my leg was throbbing and I called it an evening. The next morning when I woke up, still no wash cloths. I called the desk and advised what happened and she said she would send some right up. I never saw them. My children and I ended up washing with hand towels. I went down stairs to ask for a late check out because I still wasnt feeling well and wanted to rest my still swollen leg a bit more before getting on the road to drive back home. The young man advised me check out was at 12 and there was no courtesy. Anything after 12 would be an additional $25 for each hour past. I checked out and left. After the horrific stay, I made it back safely only to end up in the hospital. After being released, I called the property to speak with the manager several times, but never spoke with her or received a call back. I called the "so called corporate number" which was given to me by an employee there only to find out it was the rewards department. All I want at this point is my money back and Im still waiting and Ive yet to speak with a manager from any department. Not even a simple call back. Over the last 8 years, Ive stayed at this property at least 10 times a year because my daughter attended Hampton University. I even hosted her graduation dinner in one of the banquet rooms. I never wouldve imagined being treated this way by a Hilton Brand Hotel. Ive never had this to happen and I can honestly say, this left a really bad taste in my mouth. And the snack tray wasnt replenished until after the room was serviced and once again, we were not on the list.....

I stayed in one of the suites here for a recent hiring conference, and definitely think the pros outweigh the cons. My number one favorite aspect was definitely their in-house restaurant and ordering room service from them. Service was speedy, and the meals were top-notch, with prices pretty much around what Id expect for a normal restaurant (i.e. no ridiculous room-service price-hikes). If youre curious, I had the Hickory-Smoked Ribeye (perfectly medium-rare with a delicious sherry mushroom sauce), Lobster-Corn Risotto Fritters, and Bourbon Pecan Cheesecake (omg sooooo good). They also got a yummy turkey club to my room when I had only 30 minutes of downtime between briefings, so again, speedy. Being a populated area in more of a Southern state, there were naturally tons of awesome fast food and restaurant chains nearby (as well as a number of interesting-sounding local restaurants), yet I found that had I stayed longer I probably wouldve just kept ordering from the room service menu. Im not that lazy; it was just that good. Another up-check is the overall decor and atmosphere. The hotel is classy and modern, with clean, nicely-furnsihed rooms available for good rates. The center atrium opens from the bottom floor all the way to the ceiling of the building, providing an inviting, brightly-lit meeting area for hotel residents and guests to meet and conduct affairs. Interestingly, this also plays into one of the cons of the hotel, in that every single rooms front door opens to this hotel center, where balconies on higher floors overlook the lobby. In the event of...events (in my case, what appeared to be a wedding reception), noise definitely leaks in to the living area of the suites as high up as the sixth floor, but this is at least mitigated by the bedrooms being separated by a sturdy door and spaced towards the back; I was able to rest with no disturbances/issues. The only other significant con was the WiFi situation. You can get it for free as a rewards member of the hotel chain, but you may still up paying like everyone else since their premium bandwidth is only free for the most exclusive members. I typically dont settle for anything less than the fastest option, so I paid for it. To my chagrin, however, the signal itself was relatively weak, similar to how weak my 4G signal was. I still managed to stream TV shows, so Ive definitely had far worse, but I wouldve expected something snappier for what I paid. TL;DR for you skimmers (hmph): clean, brightly-lit, welcoming, modern, DELICIOUS...but can be a tad noisy and dont expect stellar WiFi/cellular options. That said, I certainly recommend the stay, regardless of the minor hiccups.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites for the Basslights show held at the Hampton Coliseum with a couple of my friends and I did not have a great experience. After the show the first night, as Im walking back to the hotel I see a large crowd standing in front of the front doors and Im wondering what is going on. My friend went to investigate why we could not get into our own hotel. Later finding out that in order to get in, you need a keycard and you were allowed to bring in one other person with you. They did not give us a warning saying that they were going to do this to make sure we all grabbed all of our key cards to get back in. I was with three people, and no key card. We got separated from the other two friends who had the key card, so we thought we wouldnt be able to get in. So there are just a bunch of people stuck outside in shorts and tank tops in 35 degree weather because we cant get into a hotel we paid a lot of money for. This happened all over again the second night, but this time we were a little more prepared because we knew what to expect. Now, Basslights is an every year kind of thing and Embassy Suites is the closest hotel to the venue its held at so you think they would take extra precautions expecting a fully booked hotel. Well, I guess this year, that wasnt the case. The last night, we ran out of toilet paper, so my sister and I went down to the front desk to ask for another roll and they told us they ran out. PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU RUN OUT OF TOILET PAPER. So I had to drive to walmart and buy myself a pack of toilet paper. Now if you ask me, thats ridiculous . On top of that, they didnt give us enough food vouchers for the free breakfast and dinner, and the staff was not the most friendly or the most helpful. I will not be staying at this hotel next year no matter how convenient the walk to and from the venue is. I was highly dissatisfied. Was not worth 900 dollars for three nights.
