A Private User

Van Asselt is a K - 5 school in south Seattle. Several things have remained consistant about this school over the last few years. The most important is the high quality of the staff. I have been a teacher for 21 years. For the last 6 of those years I have taught at Van Asselt. Van Asselts staff is wonderful. Being a high needs school in a transitional neighborhood with an extremely diverse student population has not kept the teachers and administration from not only setting, but reaching high academic standards. Other points to be made about Van Asselt include an excellent extra-curricular school clubs system and very good support for struggling students. With a full-time music program that includes general and instrumental instruction for all students, the school puts on over 12 academically focused school and community concerts every year. Van Asselt also features both a 1/2 day art teacher and a 1/2 day movement teacher. Both teachers are certified and experienced. All in all, Van Asselt can be considered a goal focused school with a great staff. It has instituted creative programs to both meet the academic needs of its students and to enrich its students lives.
