British links in Ladysmith? On a blustery overcast Tuesday, we travelled 30 minutes north of Richmond. As we drove the mile-long driveway, it became clear that Pendleton was serious about golf. On only one hole were houses visible; and the other 17 holes couldve been in Troon. The opening par 5 is a grip and rip confidence builder. From there the front nine wind left and right and up and down to the #1 Handicap Ninth. Chicken salad, hot dogs and a Heineken can be called in ahead of your ninth tee. The back nine yields a few more birdie chances than the front: Wider fairways, slightly flatter greens. I played from the 6600yd blues and DC played from the 6100yd whites today. We had to tee off with drivers, 3-woods, hybrids and irons throughout the day. Most approaches on par 4s were with 6, 7 & 8 irons... Brilliant Design! The course conditions were very good for early March. Putts rolled very true with no bouncing. Fairways played nicely and roughs never swallowed our errant shots. The smallish bunkers were avoided all day and no water came into play. Overall, we came away with a very positive first impression... And were adding Pendleton to our 75-mile course rotation!

Ive only played this course twice. Late last year and late April this year. Both times the course was in amazing shape for the time of year. Last fall it was immaculate and I fell in love with the track, especially given its very fair price to play. Today, the track was in great condition except for the greens. They had been aerated about two-three weeks ago. They were in great shape considering they had just been recently punched. Rolled mostly true and the sand was almost totally absorbed. That is just one of those things you must do in the spring, no getting around it. The folks here are wonderful and you get the feeling that they really do appreciate that you came by to play their course. Give this course a look/see if you are in the area or passing by. A very nice track and I plan on playing it several times a year now. ...Two months later, played again a couple of weeks ago. Green, lovely, well maintained, greens were immaculate, reasonable prices - whats not to like.

I have played Pendelton at least 10 times and I find it to be a fantastic course; the tee markers make it a challenging, but fair track for every skill level. It has 18 very unique holes and you will use every club in the bag. It is easy to get to: 3 min off I-95 at the Ladysmith exit; The course is always in great shape: the practice facilities are great; the course has a private feel, but with public access pricing. The staff there is especially friendly and welcoming; However after encountering Bruce, the starter, you may find it difficult to hit the ball because you are laughing so hard; Definately my favorite course in the area.

This was one of the biggest disappointments Ive ever had in golf. No, I wasnt playing well on this visit (my 1st/last) but the course was in poor condition. The Burmuda grass fairways were not only brown but much of it was dirt. There was little rhyme or reason to the layout but if I see another like it anytime, itll be too soon. Markings for distance, etc. were almost non-existent (unless you wanted to pay $6.50 for a course guide book). There was no drinking water on the course and no way to wash your golf balls. Add to this that the greens were being aerated (a necessity for any course) and it made for a bad experience.

Just off 95 so very convenient when traveling the area. I stopped with my wife on my way back to Baltimore from a trip to Charleston. She had a great time. The course has as much challenge as you want depending on the tees you choose. I actually hooked up with two locals who were both fun and quite good. They helped with some tips but its a very easy course to navigate. Practice facility was great. Hit off of real grass not mats. If youre in the area its a must stop.

Challenging layout. Not for beginners. Makes good use of the surrounding terrain and landscape. Staff is friendly. Forces players to hit many different types of shots and pay close attention to course management. You have to hit fairways and accurate approaches. Definitely not a walkers course, which would preclude it from hosting a marquee VSGA event even though the course itself is well-suited for such an event.

My favorite course of all time. The prices are excellent, especially if you buy their 6-pack offers. They now have driving range 10-packs. The course is always in amazing condition and the bunkers (sucks being in them) but easy to get out of if you know what your doing. I play here at least 6-10 times a year and never have a complaint. I drive from Norfolk, Va just to play it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS COURSE.

Great time was had by all!! The course was challenging and fun with great variety. It has a beautiful layout with a friendly staff. The driving range, chipping and putting areas were in great shape. The pro shop, dining area, bathrooms and carts appeared well maintained. For me and my friends its a course that we want to go back to because we know we can shoot better scores. Well worth the trip

Great course. Layed out well. Only thing stopping it from being a five star course is the grounds crew do not stop for you to hit. And when you tell management, you get an "Oh well" response. You would think they would train the help so you would want to continue coming back. But when you hear a weed eater or lawn mower right next to the tee box, you tend to get discouraged.

Average course with many doglegs. Course is in good condition but they neglect the required maintaince around sand traps near the greens. Many were not raked. Greens are the best part of this course as they are excellent. Cart girl is around quite a bit. Otherwise staff seemed indifferent to any requests out of the ordinary.

For the Richmond area, a top notch golf course. Well worth the 30 minute trip north and the $50 fee to pay on a Friday... BLOWS AWAY more popular courses most like to play in Richmond (i.e. Magnolia, Hunting Hawk, Crosswinds). On par with other top courses in the are (Chesdin, Royal New Kent, Mattaponai Springs).

This golf course is in great shape.... Just a heads up though it may say there ours are 9 to 5 but that must be a mistake... The course opens 7 days a week and the first time is 7:00am and they dont need carts returned until 8:00pm this time of year... So make sure you come visit this hidden gem!!!

Pendleton is a great golf course. The design is interesting and fun, while challenging from longer tees. Course conditions are reliably good. The management and staff could be friendlier. Food options are somewhat limited, and on-course refreshments are only on weekends.

Absolutely loved it. Probably the nicest course I have been to since I moved to Va a couple years ago. Course was in really nice shape. Beautiful use of the landscape. Great value with the coupon we had. Definitely recommend

Wish it were 25 miles closer to Richmond. Beautiful layout, great variety of holes, and not impossible to play. Price is a bit steep but has some special alternatives == worth spending a few extra pesos for the experience.
