Stoneybrook is a nice little course, great for those learning to play, like me. It has numerous short par 3 holes, so youll give your short irons a workout! Greens are small, and fairways narrow so accuracy is key. Miss the fairway and your ball is lost forever in knee-high poison ivy, so conservative playing is key. I like this course more than my 3-stars would indicate. As a beginning player, I like the laid back atmosphere. Theres no starter here - pay your fees and go out and play. Its no nonsense. There a couple of things that could be improved. Id like to be able to practice with my woods on the driving range. They could install a small barrier fence to stop longer hits from rolling into the woods. Since most of us, especially those playing this course, dont carry the ball more than a couple hundred yards, this would minimize ball loss while allowing us to practice with all our clubs. The grounds crew doesnt seem to care about golfers. Ive had a number of games held up for a long time while crew meanders around right in front of the tee area, meaning I either have to endanger them by driving towards them or wait 10-20 minutes while they go about their business. I also find that the sand traps are often filled with water and greens can be very slow - drainage is poor. So when I go from Stonybrook to other courses, I way overcook my putts. I dont think theres much they can do about this, but its something to be aware of. However, for the price, Stonybrook is a best value. Being able to play a round close to home for about $20 bucks cant be beat. So Im sure Ill keep playing here regularly. If you keep your expectations realistic, youll be plenty happy here.

This course has great potential but I feel like the management isnt concerned about the growth of this golf course. Pros: .great place to learn for beginners. there are a lot of short holes and it is never overly packed so you dont feel rushed .the price is cheaper than most other public courses, probably because there are a lot more par 3s/shorter holes than other courses Cons: .course conditions get very poor as the season goes on. during summer the course gets dried out and there are lots of dirt patches and crab grass everywhere. there was a time virtually the whole green was black because all the grass died .one time I was on a hole and the groundskeeper (lawnmower guy) just starts mowing right behind me as Im playing. I was shocked he couldnt wait 5 minutes for me to finish while there were plenty of other areas to mow .after it rains the bunkers are filled with water and seems to stay like that for days after, there isnt really good drainage on the course overall .driving range is about 175 yards so that might deter some people from practicing their drivers or woods Overall its fun to go with friends, especially if you are inexperienced. However there are definitely better places to go play golf.

The worst course I ever played on. I thought East Orange golf course was bad. This course has East Orange course beat 10 fold. The tee boxes are full of crab grass and dirt. You will break your tee trying to tee up your ball. The fairways are are full of crab grass and if your lucky enough to make it to what they say is a fairway, your second shot is like hitting out of the ruff. As far as the greens...that club house should be ashamed of themselves for having those green in those conditions and still call themselves a golf course. The best conditioned green is the 17th par 5 hole. The individuals that play their must be really desperate to play or there must not be any other courses near by to play on. The pictures I posted tell is all. I will never play here again. SAVE YOUR MONEY....DONT PLAY HERE!!!!

I dont know whos managing his course but it certainly cant be the same as years prior. Course condition was horrendous. WEEDS were in the fairways. Grass so high in the fairways I couldnt even find my ball. The greens you could literally see dried out almost burnt looking dirt. I really enjoy playing Stonybrook and I care about the course. This isnt a public bashing, this needs to be read by someone who cares and turn it around immediately.

Great for beginners, mid-handicappers can practice all our wedge shots. Greens are greatly improved and in v. good condition. Excellent value, low greens fees. 3 hour round is normal for 2 players on weekends.

Potential to be great. Great course to gain confidence. Nice staff and good atmosphere. Just lacking in upkeep start to finish.
