Went here a few days ago for about 2 days because the cabin was booked and that was the only days we could stay - a half a star and the first thing we did when we got there and unpacked there was people walking up and down and around are cabin 0 privacy what so ever - another half of star, after that we went down to the beach , beautiful looking water but we wanted to walk along the beach where there wasnt that many people and that long stretch in 85 degree weather can be quite challenging had to run like bay watch because its draining of your energy, we have been there almost an hour and we are so tired (should put in some side walk) and then we TRIED to get in the water OUCH RoCk and then OUCH ANOTHER ROcK and thats basically all this beach is is ROCKS - ONE STAR! Like for real and once me and my friend got a little far out like 4 ft the huge waves rushed in and we were pushed back to shore getting slammed into the rocks by these waves! But all and all it was fun just a tip plz try and fix the privacy and walk ways thanks , UW UW when you are there you have to paint a rock and put it in the rock pile to add to the hundreds of painted rocks !! Super cool

Lakeport SP South is one of our favorite state parks in Michigan. We have camped here each September for the past 3 years. The roads and pads are paved, pads are level, trees are well pruned and shaped, grounds maintenance is excellent. Fire pits are always clean. The bathrooms are clean, the showers are pretty dated and need upgrading. Sites are large with plenty of space between them. Lakeport North is more open (fewer trees) and has a camp store and camp host. We have not stayed at North CG because we prefer the privacy and solitude of South. It does fill up on warm weekends in the autumn. Theres electric at each site with water spigots throughout the campground. Weve not had a problem with tripped breakers but weve never been there when the CG was full. The beach is sandy with small rocks and pebbles. Beach access is via a path through the woods past the playground and a short hike through the dunes. Its a pleasant beach for walking and rock hunting. With an upgrade of the shower facilities Lakeport South would easily rate five stars.

We have been going to Lake Port for over 20 years. Every year it seams to improve. It is a safe fun place for the family to go. If you forgot something no problem the camp store will most likely have it and the prices are quite reasonable. The employees in the store are very helpful and very friendly. They are very knowledgeable of the surrounding area and the activities going on, if you have a question just ask them. The park rangers are always within calling distance if you run into a problem. The restrooms are very well kept up they clean them at least 3 - 4 times a day. The only complaint that I have is the exit door handle, it blends in with the door color and is extremely hard to find for a blind or low vision person like myself, It should have some contrast to help locate it in case of an emergency but all in all it could be worse. To all the workers I just want to thank you for the great job you all are doing to make it a pleasant place to go . Thank you. See you next Labor Day

Im ten years old and have been going to lakeport for the past 6 years and I love it the lake is always clean their is plenty of safe forest trails for kids my age the sandbar in the lake is so soft and its just my height you can catch tadpoles and minoes in the shallow water on the far right of the lake the camp store is a good place to grab something you might have forgotten to take they also have all sorts of treats and toys for little kids my favorite thing they sold was the bow and arrow set it was awesome and it worked like the real thing and their are pleanty bamboo sticks for sword fights at the beach

Access to day use is actually across the street from the beach front area. You have to haul your picnic stuff up and across a crosswalk, which can be a great workout in the heat. The picnic tables and bbq grills are plentiful up on the grass, although not convenient for letting the kids play in the sand/water while parents set up lunch. Water access is achieved by going down the stairs or ramps to the sand. Water front is actually very rocky for about the first 5 feet. Bring your watersocks!!! Park was very clean and pleasant.

Its a great beach with a Great Lakes/"up North" feel only an hour away from Detroit. A nice alternative to smaller local Lakes in Oakland/Macomb counties, such as Island lake and Stoney Creek. Its a 1 hr 15 min drive from Royal Oak, 1 hr 5 min from Ren Center. The feel is that of being on Lake MI or similar, with breeze and waves. Clean beaches. Water is somewhat colder than in the small inland lakes.

Tru family friendly environment. Everyone around is always nice and it such a beautiful place to camp. The sunrise is particularly gorgeous. The staff at the camp store is also curteous, helpful and friendly as well. Theres even plenty of places to drive to that are nearby to get all your camping needs. Would highly recommend this place for camping to anyone.

Good family friendly park. A lot of rvs but not so many that you feel awkward with a tent. Tends to get quiet really early in the evening. If youre up past midnight youre a rarity. Close proximity to the beach is nice too. Very clean and well maintained bathroom and shower facilities.

For a state park its very nice and always clean. New camp store is clean and employees are friendly. Holiday weekends book up early, and there are long lines at the dump station when you are ready to leave. Beach is a little rocky, not the greatest for little kids

Grab a campsite around the edges of the park for a little bit of privacy but you still wont have much. The center campsites are wide open with almost no trees for cover. Having the lake right at the campground is nice, but there isnt much space on the beach.

Great campground. We camped there twice this year. The beach is nice and the store is fun to stop in with the kids. The day use area down the road is large. The beach is nice but you have to walk pretty far and cross a walking bridge over the road.

After hours registration is a bit annoying as it requires you use the provided phone to call them. You also need to purchase a Michigan recreation pass. The campsites have no privacy. The loop I was in did have good access to Lake Michigans shore.
