I dated one of the bouncers here, Stephen Rothwell. We broke up without a fight and wished each other the best.. Unfortunately I made the mistake of hanging out with an owner of a security company who has two of his volunteers come in, twice a week. After that, the security guard, Stephen Rothwell would refuse to check my ID or stamp my hand. The guy at the door would just roll his eyes and tell me to go ahead. I went to a event downstairs Saturday night. I had trouble getting in because Stephen Rothwell would not check my ID, and he handed the wand to his new girlfriend, a fellow employee, Karen Gallagher. She walked into a corner outside, and would not check my ID, use the wand on my, and refused to give me a wrist band,, Luckily, there was third man out there, who had no idea what was going on, he kept telling Karen to check my ID and used the wand, she wouldnt even look in our direction, nor respond to him. I asked, "...What is going on?" At this time, I did not know Stephen Rothwell and Karen Gallagher just started dating in July. The security guard that was actually acknowledging me finally said in a whisper, "I dont know, just go in." Stephen Rothwell tried to get me banned many times because he claimed my presence made him uncomfortable. I wonder what is going to happen when Karen Gallagher and him break up? Will he try to get her fired, because her presence will then make him uncomfortable? Such high school like drama coming from the security guards who are supposed to be in charge of our safety, not acting like grown babies.

My partner and I came to the bar with expectations of body shaking music on a vacation. I read other reviews and they are correct. You pay to get into three rooms up to $25-30 but you have to pay $5-$10 for each room featuring deep house, r and b hip hop 80s Saturdays. Why not just charge a flat ten dollar fee and call it good. Its confusing and dumb especially on a local dj in a small.bar. Secondly we paid $18.00 for a little drink in a plastic cup and martini. The cocktail in the small.glass got me. Like really put it in tall glass and call it good. My partner said we just went to a very nice high end restaurant and paid the same.price for a.better martini. Most importantly apparently boston has three night clubs left thats saying something for us all. Frankly the reason why Colorado where we live has a night life is because they have music people want to hear. Circuit music is what gays want to hear and congregate to experience. From my perspective Judy turn it into a straight bar youll have more success.

Fun dark room and the antics were worthy of any Eagle, (especially years ago). Now after some time it has definately changed.(Thanks to Bostons Puritanistic mind set). The Friday night crowds are scary at times...perhaps because all the younger leathermen go to NYC or Montreal or Manhunt. It needs an ovehaul, and it would be really nice. Saturdays can be leather and latex, and fun. However because it is more Lesbian down stairs the ambience is not as edgy as it should be. It is a place that the bartenders are HOT...the clientel are NOT. However you can find a few cuties there, especially on Fridays when Machine is in full force. DJ Danae speans a mean set...and the music is HOT! so are the drinks. Definately give it a shot, you may like it... ****Sundays are nice and there are pool tables and darts and other things to occupy your self downstairs.

Ive been 3 times now. Fun crowd, good music (in my opinion--i love edm). However, the last time i went i was furious. Since Im 18, i got my hands Xed. Not a problem. But once I was inside I was really thirsty so went to the bar and asked for a cup of water. They wouldnt give me a cup of WATER and told me that water for me was over there--the bartender proceeded to point to the stand that was selling water for 3 dollars. I couldnt believe it. My 21 yr old friend then asked for a cup of water and then we walked a little bit away from the bar and i started drinking it and within a matter of seconds security came over and threatened to kick me out. I was drinking WATER. They do not treat their 18+ guests right, and also charge a fortune for 18+ entrance. Unfortunately, its the only 18+ club in boston.

Ramrod is no longer a true gay bar, though they have retained certain bartenders who can be condescending douchebags. It is now just a generic club with djs and karaoke for fat people and hipsters. The paid models that you see in their ads are not part of the regular crowd. They have alienated the crowd that put them on the map because of a bunch of whiny twinks who call out "creep" and then stagger drunk over to the Fens to hide in the dark while they cruise Manhunt on their cell phone. Just another casualty of compromise from the gay communitys public relations campaign, and it smells like fish from all the hags that now hang out there with their straight boyfriends.

Worst club ever. Bartender at the first bar by the door ugly and mean. Mean ugly girl at coat check took 20.00 for my coat check and did not give me back the change. I realized to late. Bartender (Large African American Man) working the back bar behind the dance floor was so rude to me when I asked for a lemon for my diet coke - started shouting at me because I reached in the bin for a lemon after requesting one from him 5 times.....got all ghetto on me. I am from LA visiting Boston....they are all posers at Machine...trash and the worst bar/club I have ever been to. I hope all those individuals get fired. Sincerely, Not Impressed #BostonCold

This place has rotating events and evenings catering to different crowds. Be sure to check their website/Facebook to find out whats going on the night you are planning to visit. The downstairs "Machine" has spotty cell service often times so be aware of that if youre trying to meet up with friends or request Ubers, etc. They claim to have free WiFi which would help, but they rotate the password so often that most of the bartenders dont even know what the current one is. Other wise a great place, service is good, and drinks are decent as well

Hated it. to many searched . they pour you a half bottle of beer then sell the other half to the next customer, music is OK but not many people for a Saturday night. two floors with separate club got to pay for the dance club downstairs. thats fine but when you go back security searches again does not remember it customers and are rude like the bar tender found the place to be unfriendly . Will never go back.

I watched the Gold Dust Orphans, “A Little Orphan Tranny Christmas” here last Christmas. The show itself was pretty well-produced but the acoustics of this nightclub leave much to be desired. Floors are grimy and somewhat sticky. Not sure how you could have a good dancing experience on such floors. Staff is somewhat brusque and not very helpful.

Security made a huge deal about a lil bottle forgotten in a bag yet a man slipped by with a huge knife and attempted to slice and stab the same guy that had issues at the door at the end of the night. Like Im baffled that security has wands and Pat u down and he still made it in. What happens if he had a gun and shot that guy? BOSTON WAKE UP
