Equus Run features beautiful grounds, a charming little tasting room, and friendly staff. Some of their wines fell a little outside what my wife and I would consider accurate representations of their varietals, but they had 2 or 3 wines that I would consider purchasing. They had a nice vintners reserve Zin we both enjoyed. The staff may have a bit to learn about wine yet, as we did overhear one employee give some incorrect information to a novice taster next to us, but we didnt butt in or correct them since it seemed like they were still learning themselves (arent we all?). Overall, a tasting at Equus Run is a pleasant experience - much as one might expect from a small winery in a rural area, the staff was friendly and accommodating and they did have several wines that were quite nice. We bought a bottle of their Cab blush and enjoyed it outside on a warm day along with some really killer wine-infused cheese spread that may or may not be made onsite. I think we would go back if were in this area again.

Can not recommend for events. I dont know about the wine part of the buisiness, but we rented the barn for a day-long program. They might do OK for parties, but they were clearly not prepared to host professional events, despite representations that they host this stuff often. They said thay had internet access, but did not (or could not get it to work if they did) They did not open the venue on the agreed upon time for set-up. We had to turn off their refrigerator to hear our speakers. They were very interested in getting us out very quickly to set up for their evening event. (which I supose I would not blame them for, but we would not have run over if they had opened the facility on time!) While the staff made offers to help us with problems during the program, none of them were capable of actually doing so. To be fair, they were short staffed that day due to circumsatnced beyond their control, but that didnt help us out, either.

Absolutely horrid wine. Its overpriced, and frankly tastes like cooking sherry. The winery itself is very fancy and beautiful, in a wonderful location, but thats it. The wine is bottled in bottles made of colored glass, and none of them are in the traditional shapes for their respective varieties. This is really not a bad thing though, because you wouldnt know you were drinking any particular variety any way, because they are all so poorly made. Rotten nose, consistency of cooking oil, and an aftertaste that makes you want to chew tobacco just to get that taste out of your mouth. The next day youll be reminded of the wine because of its extremely high tanic acid content.

I was really surprised by the high quality of the wines at Equus. They grow some of their grapes on site and buy others from vineyards in California, but the winemaker does an excellent job with all of the wines. The whites include an excellent Sauv Blanc style called "Blanc de blanc" (no, its not sparkling), and a really nice un-oaked Chardonnay. Of the reds, the Zin is spicy and fruity but not sweet, with enough tannins and acid for balance. The Merlot is also well balanced, but not as deeply extracted or spicy. I recommend going for a special event (open house, charity event...etc.) when the big bard is open.

My wife and I were in Lexington for an anual convention. We had gone to several other winerys in the previous years and decided to try Equus Run this year. We were both glad that we did. We bought a nice sampling of their wine and we just drank the last bottle and are looking forward to ordering some more. The staff was very attentive and spent the time to explain each of their selections. I would highly recommend stopping by to try out their wine and see the scenery.

Absolutely beautiful. Our group of four did a self tour. The lovely ladies printed out a map and brochures for us and we walked around the vineyard. It was lovely. Then returned to the tasting room where we could sample 6 wines for $7. Wonderful deal. They also have cute items you can purchase. You can also purchase the glass you use as a souvenir which I did. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

We moved to Lexington from Oregon last year and we finally found a winery we love. Its rare for my husband & I to agree on more than one or 2 wines but we loved almost every one we tasted. And my husband hates any kind of sweet wine but even he liked the Passionate Kiss dessert wine. I was shocked. We joined their wine club on our first visit and we look forward to attending events at the winery.

I am not even sure if they actually make their own wine as they cliam... I am from Cal. and their red wine tasted like cheap California wine. My guess is that they buy cheap grapes and wine from California and put their labels on the bottles. Their white wine are not that bad. Their summer concerts are good on the other hand. Bring your favorite wine and enjoy music!

I would not recommend this winery. We had a couple friends visit from out of town and I called the day before to confirm their tour times. The next day, we were rudely turned away do to another group. While Central KY is full of hospitality, Equus Run is complete devoid of such pleasantries. I did not have a chance to try their wine; I suppose its for the better.

Very pretty drive! The winery itself is charming and we found the wines tasty. The only complaint (a very mild one at that!) was the service. Our guy was also waiting on a group that was having a wedding there in the spring. We felt like we were a bit of a bother to him. Maybe they should consider a few more hands on deck for a busy Saturday.

I always enjoy coming here and bringing my friends and family... But, recently we had reservations for our 30th wedding anniversary for the Murder Mystery Dinner, which was on the same night as our anniversary... this event was cancelled the night before the dinner... I am still waiting for a full refund for this event...

Absolutely amazing, we stopped here on our honeymoon, and the people here are so friendly and helpful. We live in Northeast Ohio, and still joined their wine club! We cant wait for our seasonal wine to come and cant wait to visit this beautiful vineyard again! Highly recommended, and loved!

Not particularly thrilled that I came before closing with a party of 6 ready to spend money and was turned away. I guess the guy was ready to leave for the day so we left for another winery that was happy to have our business.

In general, I think they do a good job for what they are. The atmosphere is great for events. The staff is normally very nice. I am a member of their wine club and get 3 bottles every quarter.

Absolutely beautiful area, live music and very tasty wine. They actually make a wonderful Pinot Noir, which is hard to do in Kentuckys climate. I would recommend Eqqus Run to anyone.

Very friendly staff. Their wine is actually very good and has won awards. I dont know why others have rated it so low.
