I am really a member of Healthridge fitness but wanted to take my 2 daughters and meet my niece to a fun place for a rainy day. When I got there I was very impressed with the play room and the pool area it looked nice. However, after going down stairs and into the family changing rooms I changed my mind. The changing rooms were dirty and had hair stuck all over the floor. Also, over the phone we were told we would be given towels and when we got there and I asked for a towel they werent going to give me one because I was not a member. The worst part was that during our 1 1/2 hr stay 2 children nearly drowned and one of them was my daughter. I was not swimming but my husband was. Myself and another mother had to jump in fully clothed after our children who had gone under and the lifeguards didnt notice. This is a major problem because both of us were watching our children but were not swimming (My husband was in the pool with the kids but had taken one to the potty). I saw my daughter go under and it took me a 30 sec or so to run to her considering I was sitting in the bench area and she was on the opposite side of the pool and during the whole time it took me to get to her she was struggling and underwater and no one noticed. Not only that but the boy that went under earlier went under in the exact same spot. You would think they would put an extra lifeguard in that area since one child already had a problem with it. The other mother who had jumped in approached me and told me to file an incident report. When I told the manager they just shrugged it off like they didnt care. DO NOT GO HERE! The lifeguards do not pay enough attention and are obviously daydreaming instead of keeping an eye on the children! And when did you have to start paying $30 to get into a community center!

The pool is great for young children that cant swim or you dont want in the "deep end" as the deepest part of this pool is only about 4 feet. No diving boards. Great big slide and lazy river. Decent little slide for small kids The hot tub (must be at least 5 years old to get in) looks out over the hole pool. Walk in entry to pool makes it especially good for toddlers. They provide life jackets, noodles, and those little floaty board things. We enjoy taking our 2 year old there. They have one of those play areas like in McDonalds as well which is great to go to with my toddler to dry off a little more before we go back outside if its cold. The pool can get really crowded with a bunch of grade school (3-6th grade average age?) unless you go right after they open. The lap pool looks nice but never been in it. Hot tub is decent, the jets are all very low but they have pressure. Its a great place to go in the winter and on rainy days. We just started going this month (march 2014). I dont picture us going there over the summer months unless the outdoor pools are closed due to storms. With that said, on occasions the lifeguard staff can be a little unprofessional. I have seen lifeguards with toy water guns squirting each other and tossing pool toys around when they need to be focusing on the people in the pool. If I am drowning I dont want the life guard distracted because he is spraying the female lifeguard with a water gun.

I only give it 3 stars because my son, who has special needs loves it there so much that we keep going back. Personally, I find the lifeguards to be just statues. (Sure, there are those who stand out and make a difference. There are some that work hard) But most of the time they just stand around. Sometimes not even dressed for action, I mean in sweat pants/jog pants and/or a hoodie!!!! how can you save a life wearing a hoodie? On one occasion a boy came down the big slide and struggled to get to the surface once he got to the bottom, the boy tried to swim but lost his footing. The life guard just stood there for a few minutes watching as this boy struggled, THEN after he realised the boy was in trouble, just reached out his hand... did not get in to try and help the boy out. One day my boy (who was 3 at the time) and I were swimming in the kids pool, when suddenly (and you know how fast kids are!!) he got out and ran to the deep end pool.... well, me, just coming out of the lazy river following him (and thank goodness I was fast) caught up with him just before he climbed into the deep end... life guard watching.. not blinking a sweat! I asked her if she was going to stop my 3 year old from jumping in the deep end, she replied "Its NOT OUR JOB to babysit your child!!! WHAT? are you serious? I nearly slapped her... but held my composure, shook my head and walked away)

Matt Ross is part of a couple of overland park community loactions the other one being Tomahawk ridge which just like Matt Ross is a very nice community center! The staff is great and very friendly. Ive never really had any problems with them. The gym is very well equipped and I would say it is enough to get a good workout, there is an indoor track that circles the exercise floor and also above thr basketball courts which are great. the shower/locker rooms are always clean and nice, they also have an indoor pool, a lap pool and water slide and lazy river...I would highly recommend this place to anyone I know the pool is great for the little ones they also have a playroom and child care room for when you want to workout and have the kids looked after. Overall I would say just a great place for the family

This review is based solely on Toddler Time as my 2.5 year old would not get much out of the pool that she couldnt get from Grandmas pool and I have no current need of workout facilities. My daughter is kind of at an ackward age for their little jungle room. She is a little bit big for the small kid section and a couple of inches too short for the big Kids section. I thought there would be toys out and organized activities and this is not the case. Toddler time is good for about 30-45 minutes of so so entertainment and that is it until she is taller. For refrence she is 39 inches tall.

Great facility great prices. This is one of the best kids pools in the area in my opinion. The whole kids pool is 3.5 ft at the deepest, deepens very gradually so that any child can find a safe place to play. The lazy river is super fun once kids are big enough, access again is only 3.5ft deep. They have great sorely facilities and nice clean changing rooms. All of this and more at a fantastic price. At the time of this review if you are in Overland Park resident a monthly membership will cost your family $49. Thats hard to beat just for the gym and pool membership!

Worst service ever. a women reserved a party there and didnt sign form cause She wasnt informed. Blonde hair manager is the worst ever. So rude. Couldnt bring and leave simple cakes in the room? Literally wanted to leave party supplies and the women was on the way to sign the form and I couldnt leave simple supplies in the room. I do want to say it might have something to do with my race. The women was so rude and nasty. Very displeased
