At the center of the downtown, it is a good place to sit back and relax. The best time would be late evening and night when the entire place is illuminated. Although a lot of noise around due to the traffic. However, it is one of the main attractions of the city. Besides the one at the center, there are many sculptures around the main pillar. There is a Civil War Museum at the ground level. The pedestrian walkway around the circle has the names of US Army soldiers engraved on the walkway encircling the monument. Around the place, you will see many horse carts but they are very expensive. Do not miss the Southbend Chocolate Cafe on the Southwest side of the monument. They serve one of the best ice creams in town. Everything in downtown is pretty much walkable. The famous Canal of Indianapolis is about 10mins walk from this place. The famous Cafe Patachou, famous for its breakfast and brunch, is a 5mins walk. Parking is a little problem here but there is an economical parking at W Wabash Street behind Hilton Indianapolis, from where the place is less than 5mins walk. Overall, a great place to be.

This is the centerpiece and heart of Indianapolis. To the South are all the bars and clubs you could want. From the club scene at Bartinis, to the upbeat atmosphere of the live music at Howl at The Moon, and the class and history of The Slippery Noodle THIS STREET IS PACKED. To the north you can see a long strip of beautiful monuments and parks dedicated to the men and women who sacrificed their lives for this great country. To the East (and a bit North) youll find the cultural district of Indy in Mass Ave. Then to the west youll find the beauty of the Canal, museums dedicated to the states history, and the Indianapolis Zoo. This monument is beautiful on its own but is also the hub of this amazing city. You cant go wrong visiting it, and you cant go wrong heading any direction when you are done.

Maybe its just me but Ive never been in a downtown that glorifies war quite like downtown Indianapolis. Theres the USS Indianapolis memorial, the World War memorial, American Legion Mall, Veterans Memorial Plaza, Vietnam and Korean Memorials, WW II memorial, the 9/11 memorial, etc. Its all a little much for a peace-loving guy like me. That said, The Soldiers and Sailors monument anchors a spectacular public space. You can ride an elevator to the top for a small fee or walk for free. People sit on the steps and eat lunch in the summer. If it was focused on anything other than war and death and violence Id give it five stars. One more thing...cars should be removed from the circle. If they were, it would be perfect.

Downtown Indy is Goooorgeous. A great centerpiece to commemorate Indianas past leading us into the future -Not to mention to stunning architecture setting a great background for wedding photos, Tshirts, marathons, and even American Ninja Warrior! The Circle is great for every season/special occasion- Fountains in the summer and of course the circle of lights for Christmas. IPL really puts the finishing touches with lighting up its windows in the shape of the American Flag, Christmas Tree, Race flag, etc. One of my favorite things about Indy is general is the great road system making transportation a flash- And each road is an extension of the circle connecting us all.

A must see monument! Photos of this monument wont impact you like standing there. Park near-by and walk. Brochures available inside at the gift shop. Take the $2.00 elevator up 32 flights to the glass enclosed look-out. From this height you can see many attractions and plan your next adventure. In by gone days the local limestone was carved by an artist who thought it was immoral to charge for public art and lived a near pauper lifestyle because of his belief. When the monument was first viewed by the public, comment was made that the men looked too German, so the artist removed their beards. I hope youll go, youll be glad you did! A kid friendly activity.

Beautiful monument complete with a small museum and gift shop. You can ride an elevator to the top for only a dollar or walk the 300 steps for free. Its in a beautiful circle that is surrounded by restaurants and shops. Great place to take pictures or just sit and relax on the steps for a bit. Gorgeous fountains and colorful landscaping. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes!! (* Be aware, there are a few homeless people that seem to hang here. They may ask for money, but some just want friendly conversation. If this bothers you, you may not want to go here.)

One of the nicer memorials Ive visited. Relatively clean and free of graffiti. The stairs are free and its $2 to ride the elevator most of the way up. Elevator is free to people in the service and vets. Great view at the top with signs pointing out important buildings on each side. There is air conditioning at the top, which is very welcome if you took the stairs. Theres a shop in the base and a free civil war museum on the lower level. The tower is not for the claustrophobic or wheelchair bound.

This is kind of a funny thing to review actually. Whats nice about the area around the monument is that they are always trying new things. Sometimes they have sporting events and other times its crafts for the kids. Theyve made a big effort over the last year to add more events. So if you are in the area its worth walking by to see whats going on. Just please dont take your bride to be on a horse ride and propose. If theres anything more predictable in the world I dont know what it is.

The monument itself is really cool. Great view at the top. The problem here is the museum under it. It is a civil war museum, and has loads of false facts. Watching the video when you get in they already get several things wrong about slavery, sexism, and the war itself. So, dont go in the museum expecting a historically accurate exhibit. It has some cool stuff to look at though, like an old flag and other cool things. The monument was an enjoyable experience. The museum wasnt.

330 stairs to the top will save you on the $2 elevator ride. The $2 is worth it. At the top of the tower, there is an observation deck with an incredible view of the city. At the bottom of the main tower, youll find a small gift shop. If you go down to the very base of the tower, there is a Civil War museum. If youre on a budget, you can easily spend about an hour at this landmark without spending a penny. Even the gift shop was fairly inexpensive.

If you take stairs, they are tight. Not for the claustrophobic. Its hot too. But we did it. Climbing to top is just one of those things you can say you did. Free for stairs, $2 for elevator. Just because you walk up, you dont have to walk down. You can ride the elevator. The museum at base is pretty cool. Take the time to go through. Most people dont even realize its there. There is no charge for museum.

No fee to get to the top if visitors choose walking on the stairs and only 2 dollars if the elevator is chosen. When I walked to the top, I have to squat as legs were too tired to let me stand up. But its a way to take exercises and the heights of different momuments in America are told on the observation deck. Besides, a museum with vivid displays of correlated content is opened at the bottom.
