Lexi Hass, an 11-year-old girl from Charlotte, N.C., has a disease called Kernicterus, which is caused by high levels of bilirubin and causes neurological complications. Haas suffers from an induced brain dysfunction that has left her physically disabled and bound to a wheelchair. The girl’s family visited Savanna, Ga., last weekend, where they hoped to visit the Ships of the Sea Museum on Sunday. After carrying his daughter’s wheelchair up a flight of stairs to the museum entrance, the family was told that the girl could not come in because the wheelchair would “get the carpets dirty.” SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN OR FIRE THE STAFF AND MANAGEMENT...

Took my kids over Spring Break this year. I wasnt expecting two rambunctious boys to really enjoy the humdrum of a museum, but I was pleasantly surprised. The museum has a wonderful collection of ships and artifacts to pour over. My boys really enjoyed the "titanic" room with the dvd commentary to match, and they were even interested in the other exhibits. Afterwards, we all took a walk around the beautiful gardens, which i imagine, will be even more spectacular within the coming weeks. A perfect place for a family photo! Really enjoyed. Definitely recommended.

With the limited space available, this museum offers much. For those that love the sea, "and the wheels kick, and the white sails shaking", this is the only place for hours around to get your fix. it is in an Anti Bellum mansion, originally built for a descendant of John Williams, of Puritan New England fame. Many ship models and displays, artifacts, etc.. inside this Old Mansion. Oh, and if you love plants, they have the largest formal garden in Savannah - and it is open FREE, regardless if you pay to go inside or not !

The previous review suggesting that this place is unfriendly to the handicapped is unfounded. However, take note that this museum is not ADA accessible due to this originally being a house built in the 1800s. The museum was not what I had expected...very heavy in models and art and not a lot of artifacts. If youre genuinely interested in nautical history, give it a go but dont expect the same type of exhibits you would see in other "maritime" museums.

The staff here were really welcoming. They greeted us with something akin to a cheery, "Ahoy!", gave us plenty of information about the displays and house and let my family of four adults in at the family price ($20, but intended for two adults & two kids)! The model ships were interesting and intricate. Solid stop overall.

If you like model ships, this is your jam. Scale replicas of sailing ships abound but the collection features several steam ships and a couple of nuclear-powered vessels of local note. Also, dont miss the detailed exhibit on the second floor regarding the life and times of the Savannah-based passenger line.

Went here for an outdoor Savannah Law School graduation. They have a very nice covered pavilion area, the outdoor landscaping is gorgeous. I didnt get to view the inside but I imagine that is really nice too. Located in the downtown area so theres plenty to do within walking distance.

More than meets the eye. This is honestly one of my favorite museums in a city of so many. It is very well put together and has a wonderfully interesting history. Its not only a museum of ships, but also stories.

Very interesting, full of facts and amazing and intricately designed ship replicas, and displays. Very quiet, minimal lighting so youll need your phone or bring a flash light. Staff was amazing also.

Go into this knowing youre just going to see a lot of (very well constructed) large model ships over two floors and not much else. Good for that, but not what I would call a museum.

Great museum to take a tour of. Lots of model ships and everything sailor and shop. House the museum resides in is absolutely gorgeous. Neat garden as well. Beautiful light inside.

No one should go to this museum after they denied access to a paralyzed young girl because her wheelchair would dirty the floors. Boycott this offensive and disgraceful museum.

The SOTSM is a real treasure and one of my favorite venues for events, whether its a lecture, concert or just to wander the magnificent gardens and exhibits.

What a place! Old figureheads, great old ship models, scrimshaw collection, navigation aids through the ages, gilded age gardens and house.

We had a great and friendly experience today in a historic home with much effort and cost spent on restoration. The gardens are beautiful as well.

Interesting museum worth visiting in part because this another house by famed architect William Jay and features an indoor bridge upstairs.

Small but interesting museum. Like a maze to get to the entry door with poor signage. Worth it if you are into this type of history.

Great place to go for a 4th grade field trip. The Mermaid will immediately initiate puberty or a Naval career.
