Visited Terrapin with some friends from out of town this past Sunday. Admittedly, Im not much of a beer drinker; however, Terrapin offered a selection of 10 - 12 beers with various qualities, and I found a few that I liked. It was raining outside, so we were unable to enjoy the outdoor space; however, the interior of the brewery was quite nice, the pours were ample, and the employees pouring the beers were helpful. Our visit at Terrapin would have warranted 4 or even 5 stars were it not for a display of considerably poor customer service that we experienced towards the end of our visit. Having missed the 2:30PM tour of the brewery, we waited in the designated space for the 3:00PM tour. In total, there were about 10 people waiting for the tour when a Terrapin employee walked up followed by four guests. As he passed, the employee spoke with a mocking tone under his breath, "Looks like you guys are going on a tour; I wonder whos doing that," at which point he pushed past us, grabbed some goggles for the 4 people behind him, and proceeded into the brewery. Confused, we waited for 5 minutes for someone to come and give us a tour before asking one of the employees at the front what was going on. She replied that the guy was taking the 4 guests on a VIP tour and that there would be no further tours. My issue is not that we didnt receive a tour, but that the employee that gave the "VIP tour" left us standing there -- knowing that we were waiting for a *scheduled* tour -- without saying anything to us. His snarky comment only added insult to injury. At the very least, he should have acknowledged us and let us know that we would not be receiving a tour. Rather, he left us to wait, to wonder, and then to figure out for ourselves. Terrapin touts the value of supporting "local" businesses--a value which I share. More than anything, I appreciate the particular quality of customer service that you typically find at local businesses--the kind of customer service that is especially personable and leaves you feeling valued in an individual sort of way. Unfortunately, our experience at Terrapin this past Sunday left much to be desired in the way of that very special kind of customer service.

I am an ancient UGA alum and current devotee to all beers Yuengling, having lived away from The South for decades. During a March alumni group visit to Athens I was in the company of an old friend (a 1970s era Valedictorian of his UGA class & Harvard Law School grad) who will open his own brew pub in another state later this year. Following his expert recommendations I sampled several Terrapin products and savored them all. Hopsecutioner in particular "spoke to me". Kudos to Terrapin for your fine efforts. I am now a regular retail buyer of your excellent brews and aspire to a brewery tour upon my next Athens visit.

Ill admit a bit of bias in taste when it comes to Terrapin beers. They do love their IPAs, and I... Dont. If IPA beers are your thing, this is the Athens brewery for you! They have a decent selection of other beers- the Good To Gose is excellent, but the mainstays are IPAs like Hopsecutioner and Hi 5. Lots of limited batches and events. One big plus is the big back yard with games, picnic tables, and a tent, for more of a family friendly feel than creature comforts "in town" vibe. Check them out on an event day with your friends, buy from the grocery store any other time.

Good beer, quick tours, and a band all for the right price. We were there on a beautiful Saturday evening and it definitely got busy in the last hour with some pretty long lines, so get there early if its nice out! The brewerys signage is fairly poor if youve never been in the area before, which is a bit amusing because youve probably seen a giant Terrapin sign in one of your local bars. Its just a plain white building, with a little sign above the front door. If you get there a bit after 5:30, youll see all the cars so it will be a little more obvious.

Kind of amazing that we have this little gem right in our back yard. Drink beer! Try out the seasonals before anyone gets a chance! Get an awesome glass or shirt or water bottle! Drink beer! Eat awesome food! Drink beer! Drink Beer! ...its a really good place to drink beer. The staff is obviously on point with their beer chops and the selection is always interesting with experimental, seasonal and small batches popping up almost weekly. I think they concentrate a bit much on hoppier beers overall as a company, but what the hey. Theyre pretty damn awesome.

Not too wild about the beer but the environment was awesome. BE AWARE - you have to wear closed-toed shoes to go on the tour. They dont tell you that until youre already there and go to get in line and then they tell you that you can go on the tour if you put these boots on but they also tell you that the boots never get washed and lots of people but their sweaty feet in it....no thanks. This only got a 3-star rating because of the atmosphere. Wont be going back.

I mean really, Beer. Thats all that really needs to be said. But in detail, its good beer, no phenomenal beer. Always rotating taps with specials that send your tastebuds in to sheer bliss (like the peanut butter chocolate porter I think it is) and your equilibrium into inebriation. The staff there is very on point and very prompt in getting the masses their Beer. Theres a reason Terrapin has been doing business this long, and its not just the quality brew.

I used to really like Terrapin, but their quality has gone WAY downhill. Theyve always had a problem with one-off beers being bad, but now everything is. Even Wake-N-Bake, which used to be one of the best coffee stouts around, is mediocre. Whether youre in a bar, at the store, or going to a brewery in town, theres much better beer out there (often for less money).

Had my first tastes of Terrapins great beers recently when their sales team visited Charleston SC -- GREAT brews, Folks! Im impressed by the people I met as much as the beers I tasted -- this is a beer company thatll be making a much bigger name very soon, no doubt! Thanks again for treating the Wild Blue Crew to some Terrapin brew -- Yall are the real deal!

Love the atmosphere. It is a great place to spend an afternoon catching up with friends. However, I wish they would brew more light beers. Golden ale is bland and unoriginal. Occasionally they will have another light beer available but it is never amazing. The quality of their beers has diminished since being bought out by Coors, too.

Love the beer, love the place, love the people. God bless America and the free enterprise system that creates products and service like Terrapin. I know personally of things they do for others that only God and the people involved celebrate. Be careful how you judge. Companies like this are part of the solution not the problem.

absolutely the best brewery in the South East and personally my favorite in the nation. Their selection of annual, seasonal, and one time brews is simply amazing. I have yet to go to Athens and not go to Terrapin. I support them where ever I go. They deserve it. If you have never been, it is a must!
