Bear River Lake was a fantastic camping location. Far enough away to be really quiet but close enough to get help if needed. You can only get a taste of the beauty from the photos. Ive included a photo of a fallen log with wild mushrooms growing on it to a tree stump that a Piliated Woodpecker was working to remove a meal of bugs. The night sky framed by the pine trees and if course the beauty of the lake. We will be going back to explore more!

Most people just drive through the forest on 50 to get to South Lake Tahoe and never see more than the tress by the highway. There are tons of hikes and little towns off the main drag, and its easy to find a place to hike or camp. Backpacking requires permits, so always contact the ranger station when planning a trip! I recommend the Ralston Peak area. Its close to Tahoe, but feels like the back country.

Beautiful area, nice drive without too many switchbacks, so the kiddos wont barf THAT much on your way up. Oddly, the picnic areas share ORV paths, so cover your food before a pack of dirt bikes cover you and your family in clouds of thick dust, continously throughout the day. Aside from the motocross, the river and surrounding woods was very pretty, and everyone had a nice time.

We went on Memorial Day weekend and searched for a picnic spots. They charged us $8 for day access and I cannot say we enjoyed it. One smelly bathroom with no sink. LOTS of bugs. So many in fact that we had to leave without picnicking. There are a lot of better sites in this area. We ended up at Pollock Pines, which was lovely. Dont waste your time at Eldorado.

The forest is a fantastic place to visit. Although, most of the forest was lost to the "King Fire", it was still wonderful to be in a place that is rebuilding its self. A lot of the forest is missing, not a lot of trees like it was in the 90s but still nice. We drove through Stumpy Lake to Loom Lake. Great place to visit.

Collects $10 per night at first come-first serve campgrounds but does not supervise them. They have all sadly turned into party campgrounds. This includes Strawberry Point, Northwind and Jones. If you want to sleep before 2am, then go to a place with a camp host. They have forever ruined first come-first serve sites.

Well, keep in mind that this place was once burned down so it isnt much of a forest anymore. Also, Google maps should let you know that the trail is meant for OFFROADING vehicles only.. didnt know that as we attempted to drive my Nissan Sentra into the paved, then gravel, then dirt road.

I live their loop trail which is just under 10 miles. If you start from the left side of the loop, the first couple of hours is very rough and challenging. But i enjoy this as it is a good combo of intensity and length. It takes us about 4.5 to 5 hrs with plenty of breaks.

Beautiful place to go if you want to connect with nature. Most the trees have Bluetooth so you can really get that connection going. At nights the darkness patch automatically downloads and "realquitewithcricketsounds.mp3" starts playing.

Love camping dont like paying the expensive prices to get into the parks and then you have to pay for the camping site as well but it beats being at home and you cant see bears and such at home well I guess some people can but I cant.

Google keeps insisting that I roam the middle of the forest. Ive given too many McDonalds reviews to be this far from a motorized vehicle. Its very pretty to drive past here and high rates of speed when Im going to Tahoe though.

Above all else, El Dorado National Forest is my number one escape for peace of mind. The forestry department does a very good job at maintaining the forest lands and preserving these beautiful areas.

Very charming and historic--we were tracing my Scottish gold mining pioneer ancestors path from Missouri to Mud Springs (now El Dorado) and found helpful plaques and very friendly and helpful locals!

Took a scenic spin around Lake Tahoe. Recommend it to any scooter enthusiast or biker. Gorgeous seeing the backdrop of snowy peaks contrasting with a warm summer day.

Nice camping site, beautiful river. When camping there make sure that your camping site is not next to the freeway. Too noise wont get much sleep.

Loved our visit to Lake Tahoe, especially Emerald Bay. Because of the wet winter the water is really high and the waterfalls are full. Spectacular!
