We made an impromptu trip to Lodi for memorial weekend on Sunday. We came to this winery at 4:25pm just in time for the last wine tasting which closes at 4:30pm without an appointment although we had made several calls to make sure we would make it on time. The vineyard itself shuts their doors at 5pm. They had a lovely indoor tasting room as well as an outside bar which was operating on its first day - felt so lucky cause we prefer being outdoors eventhough it was 90+ F that day ;) Service was nice and cheerful. They have 5$ menu tasting and their better version including reserve wines (those of 59$ bottles) for only 10$ for tasting 5 wines. Pretty sweet deal especially if you buy one of their bottles in which case they wave off the tasting fees. We have been to Calistoga in one of the vineyards but MDs wines were so much better, and perhaps because we actually love Zinfandel more. We ended up buying the 7 Deadly Zin bottle ($16) and Bare Ranch Zin ($25). Very happy with the time spent there and our purchases. Would love to be back and spend more time in this place. They also have a cafe with fresh farm produce which I would love to try out next time. Once the cafe shuts at 3pm, they have cold cuts and cheese etc you can buy from their indoor tasting room so you can have a mini picnic outside as you drink your wine. Highly recommend!

Summary: Some great wines, friendly staff, affordable prices, and a solid market/cafe. A definite stop for wine tasting in Lodi. My wife and I went here for the first time with her parents on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We arrived around 11 and found space at the bar while many people were picking up fresh-baked pies for the next day. We were soon greeted by a server behind the bar and given the rundown for the tastings. Despite it not being a weekend, because it was holiday time we were table to taste off of the nicer tasting list as well. Over about an hour we tasted most of the wines that were available to try and ended up joining the wine club and taking home 6 bottles of wine. Great stuff! After that, we were hungry, so we got in line for a table at the cafe (which was pretty full already) and were seated after a few minutes. My wife and I split a bowl of the chicken tortilla soup (which was pretty tasty, though the chicken was a little dry), and I got the burger with bacon and avocado (which was quite good, and super juicy). My wife got the blue cheese burger and enjoyed it as well. Ultimately, everything was quite good and we had a very nice visit to this winery.

This is our favorite Lodi winery. Great wines, great people. A fun and generous membership program. We love their high-end wines like Freakshow, but you cannot complain about any of their reds, unless you prefer the wimpy 12.5 percent alcohol Napa wines. Even their everyday drinking red blend, Dons Lodi Red, is a great bargain, yet it explodes all over your palate like M-Ds best wines. A comparable, yet more pricey winery, is Tobin James in Paso Robles. Both are creative, precocious, flavorful, powerful wines, unafraid of 15 percent, plus.

Where do I even start? I came here for my 22nd birthday and was treated with the absolute best service, food, and wine! The staff here made the experience a once in a lifetime tasting and tour. I would definitely tell others to come here for their trip to Lodi, California (Little Napa Valley) and taste the absolutely exquisite Zins from Michael David Winery. Thank you James and other staff for making my birthday one to remember. 5/5!

Love this place! Im local, and this is a go to for my wife and I. Cant speak to the actual wine (more of a scotch guy) but the cafe is fantastic, and as a venue it looks awesome. They have seriously the best pie, possibly in the world (sorry grandma). Staff are super friendly, and tons of parking.

Im very happy for their success, but unfortunately this winery has gone commercial, and not in a good way. I also wasnt a huge fan of any of their wines compared to what you can get elsewhere in Lodi. That said, their compound makes for a great place to hang out and enjoy a glass of wine.

Delicious breakfast. Sofia was our waitress and she was great! They have a wine store and marketplace. I got three bottles of their Symphony wine as gifts. This is a must stop for food and gifts. It is just a couple of minutes down the road from I-5 in Lodi.

We love this place. Great to take the whole family to. My favorite waitress is Marina, she is very attentive and has a great attitude. The food always tastes good and has good presentation. This is our #1 choice in town.

My familys favorite winery- bold flavorful reds, I also love their Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc. Great little restaurant to grab food, try their Earthquake wines & take home a jar of homemade strawberry preserves!

I had the Freakshow Cab at a local YardHouse restaurant in Brea, CA. Lots of flavor and very well balanced. It is sold out, of course. Nevertheless, a very pleasant introduction to Michael-David wines.

Hearty farm food, in the restaurant, and great wines for generations, best wine names and poetry on some bottles. Right off highway 12 and 5. A must stop if you are in Lodi.

Love their wines. Among the best Ive had though the price point on the better wines is a little high for my budget ($50+).
